Hahaha probably a guy’s thing 😜 yeah it was really cheap! Maybe the cheapest we’ve seen in Asia! Haha yes we know that feeling in Japan. But the grocery store food is luckily so good in Japan!! Miss it everyday and I regret not tasting more crazy stuff haha 😃 Enjoy your time in Japan!!!

The nasi lemak you had, isn’t the best we can offer cause those are ready made, so it tends to be cold. You should go to village park where they serve really good fresh nasi lemak! :) that’s the real deal

12:57 Cendol don't use condensed milk, it uses "coconut sugar"... sugar crystalized from coconut sap. The coconut sap is harvested from the part of coconut tree where the flowers bloom (before the flower became coconut fruit), it's not the coconut water we're talking about here.
@user-ll8eo5yk3w
@user-ll8eo5yk3w 2 месяца назад
When do they start using coconut sugar in cendol? I have always known they use coconut milk and palm sugar.
@AnasSuhaimi
@AnasSuhaimi 2 месяца назад
@@user-ll8eo5yk3w When people say "palm sugar" they mean "coconut sugar". "Palm" is a very generic term. Coconut is a palm tree. But there are also a few other palm trees which the southeast Asians use to make sugar, a common one is nipah/nipa. Nipah is a wild palm that grows in river banks, very primitive looking (think Jurassic Park). Harvesting the sap from nipah trees is much more tedious than coconut, which they can grow in their backyard. To answer your question, since forever I guess. All traditional recipes that call for sugar uses coconut sugar/syrup. Even though coconut, nipah and sugarcane are all native in this area, coconut has been the most popular for many things. With sugarcane you have to press them to get the juice. With coconut, just cut the flowering part and collect the sap. That's it. As convenient as collecting the maple syrup.
@AnasSuhaimi

@@user-ll8eo5yk3w for the creamy liquid, yes that's coconut milk.

Banana leaf is added cost. Now basic nasi lemak is already 2.60 to 3. Seldom see 1.50. Many people stopped selling nasi lemak after Ukraine war began. Firstly egg is difficult to find and costly, secondly chicken is expensive.

Malaysia is hot and humid and most Malaysian food are spicy. So as you ordered your food you must ordered your drink as well . To cool off and keep hydrated. And use your spoon to scoop your rice.. not fork
@Richard-je5vk
@Richard-je5vk 11 месяцев назад
the "dessert" you had was actually Chendol, not Ais Kacang, and you can get it with or without the beans. Traditionally it was without the beans in some areas and with it in others, even Malaysians argue about this. And we don't really call it a dessert as it is eaten/drunk at all times, more like a drink. Malaysians don't really do "desserts" as such. We're not good at them, especially when compared to the other food. Always interested to see what foreigners think about our food.
