Nasi uduk is one of Indonesia's favorite food.
It is fragrant rice cooked in coconut milk and spices, similar to nasi lemak in Malaysia and Singapore.
It is often paired with stewed eggs and jengkol (stinky beans).
Check out my reaction trying this Indonesian food.

Come on Malaysian, he is entitled to have his taste and preference. So what if he rate nasi uduk? Don't be crybaby. We should mature up. I'm a Malaysian, i can respect his opinion n his preference. Taste is subjective you guys. He didn't like achovies, i love it to bits. Even if i believe him that nasi uduk is better, i can try it n may not prefer it over nasi lemak. It is subjective. Let it be. There's no need to fight over it.
@JetLagWarriors

Haha, thanks for understanding!! Just because I prefer nasi uduk, it doesn’t mean that I hate nasi lemak! I still like it…after I set aside the anchovies😂 And these two nasi are more similar than people think. Both are cooked in coconut milk, but with slightly different ingredients. Hence why I compared it with nasi lemak. I would totally be 100% supportive if you like nasi lemak better!!

Hi Steve! Glad yo tried Nasi Uduk and that you like it more over nasi lemak. I have tried nasi uduk , been to Indonesia many times. It is different from nasik lemak. Maybe the rice is the same as both are cooked in coconut milk. But nasi lemak has a different fragrant if you noticed (with pandan leaves). And our mothers would add sesame seeds to the nasi lemak. I would not compare as they are both different. With different lauk (dishes) and sambal. We prefer very spicy sambal over nutty sambal, well at least for me. Every country has their specialty and we respect that. Waiting for your return to Malaysia to try more authentic food. Indonesia is a HUGE & BIG country offering many different types of food, from one province to another. It will probably take years for you to cover the whole of Indonesia. I have loved KL and Penang when I visited them some time ago. This time I will try Sarawak too. Can't wait to visit Indonesia (maybe in December). I will try these dishes. I have the feeling that Pakistani mangoes are the sweetest after trying ithem in so many places.

Welcome to Pakistan. Hopefully you will be there by Mango season (it is almost over). You must try that in areas where you can find Pakistani restaurants/shops etc.).... I have seen them in most big cities across the globe. Google search says that you can find them in Aneka Babur 786 restaurant in Jakarta.

Nasi uduk is more similar to nasi campur. The different is just the dish u choose to put on your plate. Nasi lemak have fixed sambal, and the rice is cook with coconut.

No fair, Steve. Just because you don't like anchovies, etc, you made nasi lemak lose 1 to 5? 😢😉. Serves you right for not knowing how to count the Indonesian zeroes 😊. Just kidding. Enjoy lots of nasi uduk in Indonesia!

@keenlew5198 2 года назад
I normally do not comment on these things but both is not the same thing. Nasi uduk is akin to the Malaysian nasi campur as you can see with the variety of side dishes. This too is available at the Malaysian roadside nasi lemak stalls.
@V-S-

Nasi campur is just plain rice packed with lots of protein plus two types of soup you can choose here in Indonesia, usually sold by Chinese-Indonesian vendors

Nasi uduk is Nasi uduk lah...not a smart thing to compare it to Nasi Lemak. It's just so different. Nasi uduk is Sundanese dish. Nasi Lemak is Malaynese (Melayu). The condiments accompanying both dishes are not the same laah. Mat Salleh and Asian taste buds where got same. Some people are just weird.

Steve, nasi lemak & nasi uduk are two pair of shoes. Nasi lemak comes with: cucumber, boiled egg, anchovies and sambal belacan. Nasi uduk is more or less like nasi campur in Malaysia. Please for heaven sake, do not compare these two dishes!

Because Malay language is a national language for all these countries. If you tell Malaysian, Singaporean and Bruneian they all will agree that we use the same language. But tell that to Indonesian and all hell break loose! To the death many of them will adamantly say that Malay language and Indonesian language is not the same! 😂
