In case no one has said this to you guys, yes, "bodoh" means "stupid". Colloquially "bodo" or "buduh" When used on food, it means plain. So "mee bodoh" is "plain noodles." As in, almost nothing else in the dish aside from noodles. No veg, no meat, no fishcake, etc, aside from the sauces flavouring said noodles "what did you eat?" "just some mee" "what kind of mee?" "mee bodoh" As such, "bodo" could be applied to any other food to denote plainness. "Kek bodoh" is simple pound cake. "Biskut bodoh" plain dry biscuits. So, bodoh here not really stupid, but more of "nothing fancy".

It is usually used as an expression for something that is plain and looks unassuming that even a "bodoh" or stupid person can make it or cook it. But then by the time you eat it or use it(for things) you'll feel "bodoh" or stupid for doubting the food or thing because it is so delicious or useful (for things)

You know, every time I visit my grandmother, I went to eat Mee Bodo with my family. Trust me, you don't want to eat there during Saturday and Sunday because many people will storm the place for breakfast and the line will be long. That's number one. Number two is, the reason we, Melaka people called it " Mee Bodo" because there's nothing in it. Just fried noodle with taugeh ( bean sprouts ). When people cooked fried noodle, they put chicken or meat but not this one. They cooked Mee Bodoh using the sambal's leftover oil that you guys eat. That's why your lips starting to burn when you eat mee bodo. The third is, it is recommended if you mix vinegar, soy sauce and the sambal when you eat mee bodo. The result is heaven-like. In conclusion, Mee Bodo deserved the title of fried noodle that 'stupidly good'

Satay is usually just char-grilled skewered chicken, beef or lamb. Satay celup (only found in Melaka) is skewered meat and vegetables cooked and dipped in peanut sauce, very much like 'luk'luk' (like you said). Luk-luk is Cantonese for 'cooked by dipping in boiling water'. So the main difference between the two is the dipping.

Asam pedas ✅ Mee bodoh ✅ Sate celup ✅ Chicken rice ball ✅ Coconut shake klebang ✅ Dodol melaka ✅ Mee Bodoh actually means simple noodle, as the noodles are fried the basic way but ridiculously good. Mee Bodoh is called because of its simplicity. It is only yellow egg noodle cooked with oil and sambal tumis (nasi lemak sambal), that's it. No meat or seafood as other fried noodle has, also no vege. The best thing, the fried egg is cooked by oil that been used to cook sambal previously. That why we need to customise your own mee bodoh to suit your taste bud, that the perfect way to eat. Yummy 😋😋😋

The real name for Mee Bodo is Mee Hasan (the name of the owner), it has been around since 1970's, its my childhood food. It was called Bodoh/Stupid due to its nature, so simple yet so tasty, you can stupidly make it without anything fancy but still delicious. I used to stay near that stall and the owner is our childhood friend. Most Malacca ppl eat fried noodle with vinegar and soy sauce. the soy sauce there called "kicap lemak", lemak in this soy sauce means "savoury". Its not fat actually. Happy that u like the food from my hometown. Since you arrived late, you miss the nasi lemak there which exceptionally good too

"Mee bodoh" is a child menu since children do not like onion, vegetables or meat of any kind or spicy but the noodle itself. It could be mee with only soy sauce or tomato sauce. No frying required.

Melaka’s satay celup is unique as it’s rarely found, if at all, outside the state of Melaka. It can be said to be fusion food in that it’s like Chinese steamboat (with its sheer variety of skewered food items) cooked in a spicy sauce - albeit a less viscous one - which is almost, but not exactly, similar to Malay satay sauce (which is usually thicker). The main difference between Malay satay and satay celup is that the former involves grilling the skewered food items (usually of limited choice comprising mainly meat & later served together with some cubed cucumbers & raw sliced red onions), then dipping the skewers into the sauce so as to coat the grilled meat!

I don't know if anyone commented this already but the reason Steve's chicken Asam Pedas is thicker than Ivana's stingray Asam Pedas is because the asam pedas was cooked with the chicken's fat which came from the skin.

So you can taste the spiciness, sweet and sour at the same time. Probably the pineapple replacing the pickle cucumber in the Western style burger. The stall located in front of 7eleven Pandan Jaya.

Over here at my town, that simple mee goreng would be called Mee Koboi (Cowboy) and I don't freaking know how this name came to be. The other name will be Mee Miskin because the recipe is so simple and yet so deliciously good and super cheap, only RM1 per pack. The cili padi + vinegar sauce really lift this Mee Miskin to a higher level on sourness craving index (a totally made up one).

OMG did you guys try Kuih Badak?!!! I hope you did because you can’t find it anywhere else, if you’re still in malacca, get a local to guide you near my home, Tengkerah where they sell it! It’s a kind of kuih that looks like Karipap ( hope you had tried those in KL) but the fillings are taugeh’s with chilli and it’s soooo crispy and crunchy! I always had to have it whenever I’m back to my hometown ❤️👌🏻 satay celup is second to that! Wonder if you’ve tried Bak Kuah too? ( dried pork jerky) 🤗🤔❤️💕

Satay Celup. Elsewhere in Msia, they sell it from foodtruck / streetfood and called "lok-lok" instead of dip to the sauce and cook, elsewhere is dip into hot water and the chilli or peanit saice is seperately top after dip into hot water.

In Thailand asam pedas is know as kaeng som. kaeng = curry, som actualy means sour in Thai.

Besides using tamarind pulp, one could also use Asam Keping (a.k.a Asam Gelugor) to get that sour notes in Asam Pedas. It is made from dried Garcinia fruit and it imparts a sharp tartness in dishes like Asam Pedas and Asam Laksa with very little fruity aftertaste. I wouldn't say it is a direct substitute for tamarind (because tamarind is more complex in flavour with notes of raisins and molasses in addition to the sour) but in a pinch it'll do.

Asam Pedas (spicy sour soup) varies from state to state in Malaysia. Melaka asam pedas, for example, is not same as Kedah asam pedas or Sarawak asam pedas. Some asam pedas recipes involves sauteing stuffs in oil, other asam pedas recipes are simple 'darat' (no oil used, pounde/blended ingredients that form the basis of asam pedas soup just dumped in the pot with water, tamarind etc added). I am originally from Kedah but living in KL, when I make asam pedas, I use no oil..

@@JetLagWarriors I can cook, no problem. I can cook most of the Malay dishes that you eat that you show in your videos. Of course, being ethnically Malay, I am not good at cooking ethnic Chinese or Indian dishes. I can cook rendang (including veggie rendang), asam pedas, curries (chicken, beef, egg, fish curries), korma (a kind of curry), sambal tumis (most kinds ), Nasi Lemak, Nasi Goreng, Laksa utara (northern laksa), Laksa Johor etc etc. I can also make spaghetti, croque monsieur, shepherd pie. My kids love my cooking better than outside, of course, my wife is a much better cook! Haha!

@@JetLagWarriors Haha! But no thanks! I am a university lecturer at a major university in KL-Klang valley area. I'd be too tired to open a restaurant. I started cooking when I was a student in US, no choice, living with fellow Malaysian students, we had to take turns to cook, nobody could just sit around doing nothing and eating from the hard work of others, everybody had to chip in cooking.
