America tends to avoid meat pies for some reason. I lived in Scotland as an American for a few years. The quality of the hamburgers and meat pies is next level. They definitely hit different on those cold rainy days, too. That "stay inside on a cold day" comfort food hits the spot. Surprised the Midwest and Upper East don't adopt more meat pie spots.

I spent 2 weeks in London a couple years ago for a vacation, and there was a Gregg's like a half a block from where we were staying. I'm not kidding when I say I lived off sausage rolls. Almost every time I was going to or from the hotel, I would stop and get one. Delicious.
I was stationed in Australia for a year. Meat pies and Sausage rolls are everywhere there. Keep in mind they are not the same as in America. They are superb overseas. I would eat those for breakfast all the time.
I'm pretty sure the Gregg's sausage roll is the number 1 selling fast food in the UK, they're great. I don't know where sausage rolls originated but before some smart arse says something, we don't claim to have invented them.
As an American, I quickly got addicted to these when I was a student in York, England. Must be out of Gregg's. Living in Atlanta, I drive pretty far to buy frozen sausage rolls from a specialty importer and then bake them at home. There's nothing like it. Not even close.

From York myself, I absolutely agree with you. Did you try local sausage rolls from farm shops rather than national bakers like Greggs, Thomas bakers etc. As the are so, so much better 👌
Look like delicious sausage rolls, but they’re what we’d call posh sausage rolls in the UK, one’s done by quality bakers. But the best sausage rolls are the cheapest ones with as close to mystery meat as you can get - Gregg’s in the UK can’t be beaten for price and taste!

He uses curry powder in this recipe, but for the basic most authentic taste you should use a lot of white pepper, salt, and sage

Man I’ve been wanting to try sausage roll for the longest time myself! It reminds me of a simpler Jamaican Beef patty which are phenomenal! I appreciate Ben’s vids because man’s eats and thinks just like me haha much respect
I live in Australia and these are everywhere, and I am definitely not complaining. They are amazing. Started making home made ones and man are they good. They look very similar to these.

At my University here in Canada, you can get sausage rolls of this quality for $1.50 each, starting early in the morning to late at night. Needless to say there's a line for these things all the time, and most people leave with 2 for breakfast

We love them here in Australia too, usually get them from bakeries, and even convenient stores like 7/11 or gas station you can get cheaper sausage rolls
As a brit, I can safely say that those sausage rolls look a lot better than most of the ones available here. Having said that, we're generally paying less than two quid, so you did have some proper premium ones there Ben. Nice one !
yes sausage rolls the kind of pastry to be different at each place. my preffered sausage roll consist of a solid sausage (like a hot dog) in fluffy multi-layer pastry and the taste still comes down to the sausage
coming from the uk we tend to have a formed version of sausage meat rather than loose sausage meat but i imagine the taste is all the same, looks super good.

The insides are abit dark for a traditional sausage roll i wonder why, maybe they are using beef or something? Most sausage rolls i have seen in the UK including greys the sausage is usually a greyish brown. You definately need to try greggs if you ever visit the UK.
Same in Australia but you do get that darker meat in certain brands and bakerys and stuff. I'm sure there's plenty in the UK you just have to try more! 😝
Technically there are meat pies here in America (at least where I’m at), but they’re sold in bakeries like Vietnamese bakeries/ sandwhich (banh mi) shops. We call them banh pate chaud. Comes in pork or chicken and some places put hard boiled quail eggs in them. Very tasty but it’s a once in a while treat because it is oily/greasy.
So is the sausage alone nothing mixed in it? I've never had one of these before but I like to make my own because of where I live there just isn't places I can go get some yummy foods I see online. Looks delicious tho!!
The best sausage I've had in my life is at a little rest stop in the middle of the Namibian desert called Solitaire. Btw, you'll find sausage rolls are very popular in Commonwealth countries - especially Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. Pigs in a blanket ain't got shit on a proper sausage roll

*It is popular here in US, its basically a beef empanada. I make them too but add vegetables to it, its too basic like that & i eat it with sour cream as a dip*
