Attack on Titan is set in a world where humanity lives inside cities surrounded by enormous walls due to the Titans, gigantic humanoid beings who devour humans. I want to add some stuff about that Dieter's foolishness. Ivan's body is absolutely far behind. So no way Levi got it back. Instead of Ivan's badge, it was actually Petra's. Levi seems have a romance interest to Petra. Especially we get to see that scene where the rolling body in slow motion. That's Petra's body. And Levi look sad.

28:45 guys, you might haven't noticed, but the thing Levi gave to the soldier was from Petra's uniform. He saved it for himself as a reminder of fallen friend, but he saw the other guy was upset about Ivan's death and gave it as a consolation saying it's Ivan's (and not Petra's). Levi is the best, thinking about others before thinking of himself

yep glad this is the top comment.. it's a great little moment (in a show full of great little moments) that perfectly illustrate and build on Levi's character without any exposition. We see how much Levi cared about Petra, and how much Petra adored Levi, throughout the previous episodes, capped off with the moment when her father comes to greet Levi upon the expedition returning to the city. Just such a well-done character (Levi)- the ultimate masculine bad-ass, despite being unconventionally masculine (short and skinny). A sketch in stoicism.

@@bocchuria yea none of them seem like they're gonna be splitting the atom one day lol but i still think they're fun reactions. i don't want to post anything spoilery (though i doubt a reaction channel of this size even has the reactors checking comments), but they have no idea from how this show starts to how many places it will go (thematically, philosophically, etc etc). I've seen others, often guys new to the genre of anime, who think like these guys- that they're just getting into some good ol' anime action... but by the end of season 2 AoT they're starting to become certified theory-crafting savants. Hopefully they eventually start paying more attention to details and begin seeing the deeper underlying themes and character work going on... but even if they don't, it doesn't really diminish the greatness of the show imo. It's still a fun watch even if you're not the sharpest tool in the shed. If they continue at this lower, more shallow level of comprehension, they'll probably just end up being Jaegarists LOL but i bet they'll still love the series anyway. like i said, reactions like these are fun- they don't all have to be FilmBuFF.. ill take any excuse to watch someone react to this amazing show for the first time

And that doesn't mean they didn't enjoy it, or they're just thinking "surface level" 🙄 can't u not see how they tried to theorized everything thats happening? If they don't care for the characters as much as you, doesn't mean they don't care. Didn't u see how it affected them looking at all the deaths? 🙄 Again, not having the same reaction as you doesn't mean u have "better" ability to understand this story.

1) You should do the 23-24-25 episodes at the same time 2) Watch the post credit of episode 25 3) Watch the OVA 'Ilse's notebook' to prepare you before season 2 4) If you want to know about Levi's past, watch the 2 OVA 'No regrets' (must be watched before season 3)

Those OVAs are super good watching. But I think Ilse's notebook should be watched after the first episode of season 2. There is a kinda of revelation in that OVA that takes away from the impact the Season2 Episode1.

The reason why Levi changed his plan from following the female titan to attacking it is because he realized who Mikasa was--when he recognized her as "Eren's friend from childhood," he also recognized that her skill is reportedly equal to 100 soldiers (which they mentioned many episodes ago). The fact that he was with someone that skilled, as opposed to a random soldier, meant that their chances of successfully retrieving Eren were exponentially greater.

Levi is called humanity strongest soldier for reasons, not only because of his physicial strength but also because of his personality, he looks so cold outside but warm inside. He cares about his fellow comrades, he even gave Petra's badge to the soldier who lost his friends saying that it was his friend's badge R.I.P Levi's Squad - R.I.P Petra

I think you got the patch scene with Levi wrong: He's not disappointed, he's showing compassion. He knows the soldier gets it. There's no use berating him. If you think about it, the reason Levi and Erwin gave that order is because they probably went through the same thing in the past. The difference between them was experience. Now that this soldier made the same mistake, Levi probably sees his past self in him, so he gives him some closure. The patch is actually Petra's patch that Levi has kept for himself, but he lies and says it was Ivan's.

What's interesting is that according to an interview, Hajime Isayama himself requested that he be given time (hence the 4-year gap) to perfect and revise his manga going into season 2. This was because he, the author, was inspired by this anime--the interpretation of Tetsuro Araki (director) and Yuki Kaji (Eren's VA). His own work, materialized in animation form, motivated him to write better. In the meantime, the studio released 5 extra episodes called OVAs (original video animation) which were still based on Isayama's manga and its spin-offs...

There's no shot that was it though, season 2 had a lot to animate and a lot to polish (and even introduced a new method to animate the hair). If it only happened because of Isayama asking for more time it'd be a weird choice to spend so much on the budget when you're not getting back any money any time soon.

People only remember Levi as the Strongest human soldier (I am not talking about Titan here), mostly they forget Levi is not only the strongest soldier but he is also the most caring and empathetic one towards his comrades, and we can see it right from episode 9 when he grabbed a dying man's bloody hand and assured that his sacrifice will not be meaningless. And he showed again in this episode, he gave Petra's badge to the soldier who lost his friend and said that it was his friend's badge. This shows how great as a character Levi is and he has been in my heart since 2013.

The reason for the length in time between seasons was so that there was enough content in the manga for the anime to adapt, if not mistaken

Yeah, correct. Lots of anime has to do filler episodes because there isn't enough actual material from the manga yet. This would have been really bad for AoT, so they put a huge break in between seasons 1 and 2 to give the author 4 years of story-writing and illustration time so that by the time the anime started back up, they wouldn't have to take any more long breaks or add any filler episodes.

the initial 3 that fought the female titan had a good chance but they got completely caught offguard by her capabilities. In such a fast paced fight, they're going to rely in muscle memory and they all assumed a titan healing their eyes needs a certain amount of time.

So people always praise levi for his bad ass qualities (as they should) but relatively few people mention how kind he is. How human he is. He never told eren he was wrong or right for wanting to turn titan during the chase. He really meant when he said "do whatever you think is best, becausw none of us know how things will turn out". And when the foolish soldier tried to recover the dead body, he never scolded the guy. He understood his feelings and regrets, and then lied to the soldier saying "this is your friends emblem" when actually it was petra's one which he probably wanted for himself.

4:34 Genuinely LOVE how this showed how easy the other soldiers were killed, then how the Special Operations Squad actually stood a damn chance, had her on the defense, then there's Mikasa, putting her in a worse spot alone, then Levi KOs her. Like, we see the Scouts against other soldiers and they're obviously stronger, but the Special Ops Squad even more so, BUT THEN HERE COMES THE HUMANITY'S STRONGEST 😂

I don't think they even read these comments, only patreon I'm assuming. Unfortunately Patreon members don't seem to be telling them as much as they should, and some are just giving wrong info (like saying Eren's name isn't pronounced "Eren"). They still don't understand how the walls work, remember or know how to pronounce many characters names, etc. And they probably still don't by S3, where they're at now.

AoT is nice on the rewatch because Dave's question about answers/hints being in front of you are kind of like the movie Sixth Sense. Where there are lots of hints throughout that you don't realize are hints until after the reveal.

I started watching this series when s1 came out and I was 15 years old, obviously I was instantly hooked, second season came out just before i turned 19. Many times in between, we got news that s2 was canceled or that studio was going to change or something, so it was quite a ride, but all worth it for this amazing story. The best part is that it just keeps getting better and better. Can't wait to see you react to all of it!

Eren wasnt waiting to do it,he was waiting for his hands to heal and then he would attack her. remember he broke both his hands he cant attack her and it would take sometime to heal off a broken hand even in a titan form

I think how Levi handled the situation after Dieter went back to get the body and ended up losing more did make Levi a better character instead of just leaving him with some badass skill. He warned Dieter but he didn’t blame him for going back. Levi meant what he said, we can only believe the choices we made but no one can really know how it would turn out.

(via Gigguk) 20:53 "I wonder if they wrote season 1 to be it's own story" No. the writer spent something 10 years working on the story before the first MONTHLY chapter of the manga was published. All that time meant he was able develop long and complex character arcs, plots twist in episode xx that were set up 40 or 80 episodes later and so on. 11 years of monthly chapters... many of which ended in cliffhangers. 23:01 The king isn't smart enough... You haven't seen the king. You saw some random noble who liked to play chess with Pixis.

Attack on titan is based off a series of Mangas (Japanese comics) so the story at the time of the first season was very far along I believe the 4yr delay was due to having to do alot of animation alot of Japanese animation studio work their staff very hard and Attack on titan has alot of fast paces action sets that are probably very time consuming there were long gaps in between seasons but yea glad you guys can watch this at the pace it deserves great reactions

im honestly loving these reactions sooo so much. Ive still never finished this show but you guys might finally push me over the edge. I love how The Oak is just as into this or possibly more into this than anyone. He's honestly grown a lot as a person since you guys started this channel and its wonderful to see him expanding his horizons. The mans still got a gryffindor scarf, that really goes show how how connected he really is with everything you guys are doing.

To put things in perspective as a long time fan of this series who had to initially wait, and then took the time to rewatch as each season came out, to keep myself caught up with each season. I just finished the last of season 4, right before the Netflix One Piece dropped. It's amazing to think how close your journey is to mine and probably a lot of other older fans as well.

Yeah, the wait was hard, but luckily they used the time to work closely with the author to make sure things were properly foreshadowed. Still a shame they missed a huge setup in the very first episode though.

You're absolutely correct in calling this "the Levi episode." Not only do we get to see him kick ass and take down the female like it was nothing, but the 2nd half has a huge focus on his character and really shows you how he isn't the icy monster he makes himself out to be. This episode breaks my heart every time one of my favourites for sure!

People will suggest you watch the OVA (Ilse's Notebook) before season 2. I suggest DON'T watch the OVA until AFTER mid season 2. (after 2x6). The OVA gives too much spoiler, you'll lose some "wow" moment if you watch them before season 2.

So that's a different town to the one with the basement in it. There are two large inner areas between the walls remember. The semi-circle knobs have larger cities in them.

20:47 oak actually this show was written from ending to beginning I heard, and rewatching the foreshadowing -all the tiny little details- this is one of the best shows to rewatch cause the continuity from start to finish is insane
