This one was a major one that shouldn't be missed. Always expect a post-credit scene but be on the look out for mid-credit scenes. There's gonna be plenty of those going forward. In fact even without a bonus scene you should at least stick around for any rendered credits sequence since they really are quite intricate and nice to look at. I liked the museum-esque aesthetic here.

A couple of fun facts: 1. The old man that stands up to Loki is intended to be a Holocaust survivor which adds a lot of weight to that scene. 2. The scene with the blueberries was adlibbed. The lines weren't, but Robert Downey was notorious for sneaking snacks onto set and eating them. Mark Ruffalo and Chris Evans just stayed in character and kept the scene going.

21:51 This whole conversation made me realize (SPOILERS ahead!!!) It's interesting seeing the change from here to Civil Wars between Tony and Steve, and how the tables have turned. Steve started out as the Institute Man and Tony as the rebel. Probably took the events in Winter Soldier for Steve to lose that faith, and by Civil Wars he's the one refusing to sign The Accords and Tony sides with the System...

SPOILERS I still kinda feel like they shoulda ended up on the opposite sides of the civil war story, imo there wasn’t enough to show why they both drastically changed their ideologies
@Tooba-K123
@Tooba-K123 3 года назад
Actually it's implemented in this movie itself when Steve finds Hydras tech in Shield's quarter, he realized the world is not how he left it. Winter Soldier was the point where he totally lost faith is authority fully and Age of Ultron only adds to him going against Tony's ideology (of course since Tony didn't explain his actions fully). Civil War is totally put as to why Steve is against authorities and why he's concerned with Tony's decisions.

I love the talk of themes (the teacher in me) and the connections they have to characters-- it is SOOOO important to truly understanding the characters. Loki, Steve, and Tony are carry a lot of that thematic weight, especially at this point in the films, a few more big hitters show up down the line, but these three just impact the themes. Steve and Tony eventually end up in nearly opposite places developmentally and I love that-- Steve right now, definitely is a trust the system sort of guy, which is ironic as he has shown he will go against orders if he thinks its right (showing that good man over being a good solider). Super excited for you guys to watch Winter Solider. I consider that one a near perfect action film (with great narrative themes and character development-- its pretty much the turning point for Steve's character development).

Steve's characterization is very... odd in this film. When Fury says they need soldiers, it cuts right to Cap. And there's the whole thing with trusting vs distrusting SHIELD and following orders, which seems to imply Steve is the good little boy scout naively trusting because that's what he's used to in his time. Yes, there was more trust in institutions in the 40s. And certainly Steve missing the whole Nuclear Arms Race is a factor. But Steve was willing to defy authority in his solo film, and the point of his character is he's *not* the perfect soldier. The way I make sense of it is, it's not that Cap is a rule-following soldier. But he wants to believe SHIELD is on the up and up because they are his only connection to Peggy. Not to mention, he's 100% right that Loki is trying to wind them up. I get why Whedon chose Steve to play on this theme of trust, but I'm not sure he quite pinned Steve's character. That said, his skepticism of Stark's ego is *definitely* on point.
@jp3813

When did Steve defy orders in his first solo film? When he rescued Bucky? I've heard people claim that Tony already fought unselfishly before as opposed to Cap's accusation of him.
@sheerri
@sheerri 3 года назад
Steve’s defiance in his first film mostly came out when he was in a position to help or save others and someone was trying to stop him. It wasn’t so much directly questioning government authorities’ morality until we get to Winter Soldier. Here, the circumstances are a lot different given he’s in a new time period and he doesn’t know who to trust besides the company that Peggy and Howard helped build because they’re the first people he’s met. His one-shot goes into his sense of isolation a little more but he doesn’t really have a choice but to trust everything SHIELD says until Tony presents another option. And honestly, he might have only given Tony’s words credence because a) he’s Howards’s son and, b) Bruce was backing him up. I don’t see Steve’s behavior as out of character, it’s very much situationally based. The theme of trust continues to be an overarching one for his character’s story throughout the rest of the MCU, so it’s apt that some of that groundwork for his distrust in modern government is laid here.

There had been multihero superhero movies before, but there had often been a demand to simplify the backstory. Like, in XMen, in one movie they had Juggernaut. Juggernaut in the comics was a regular dude with a magic helmet (I believe). But no no no, that's too CONFUSING, so in the movie he was a mutant, too. Mutant mutant mutant mutant. This movie joyfully embraced comics. Super soldier, super spies, gamma mutated ragemonster, space god, powersuit genius inventor... sure, why not! And nobody could deny how well it worked. It blew the lid off.

Did you notice Loki's eyes in this movie? They're a dull blue here, but they were bright green before he fell from the Bifrost and met Thanos. The change is more subtle than with Selvig and Barton, but of course Thanos is more skilled with the Stones than Loki is, so that makes sense. I don't think Loki is completely Loki at this time. I think he's being influenced by Thanos so he'll get the Tesseract and bring it and the Scepter to Thanos. Loki's always been a diva and manipulative, and he's never been much concerned with morality or the value of other lives, but the switch here from ansty teenager to demagogue, and from stab in the back to full frontal assault (as you pointed out when he first arrived) could use a little more explanation. I think Thanos and the Scepter are that explanation, as hinted by the change in the color of his eyes.

New guy is great (totally drawing a blank on his nam.......Mark Ruffalo!) Ruffalo was great and is certainly "The Hulk" in my eyes now. But I think Norton would have blended well with other characters. Granted, it WOULD bother Norton (a writing perfectionist) that there are a few inconsistencies. Mainly no Liv Tyler. But I like how they do call all the way back to Nortons Hulk by showing us that he can change at will, like they hinted at with his green eyes at the end.

Yes I did grow up with this movie universe and by the time Captain Marvel came out I was ECSTATIC 🤩!! Loved seeing the excitement and awe and your faces by the way lol and it’s just so cool getting to watch all of these all over again with someone who’s experiencing them for the first time or someone who genuinely enjoys watching these epic movies and thinks more deeply about them 🎥 James, your face at the end of the movie when you turn to NineTailedBrush and asked “what do you think?” with like the BIGGEST smile ever 😁☺️ That’s me.

FWIW, people in America have ALWAYS questioned the government, including soldiers in WW2. It's not a new thing to consider there might be corruption or hidden interests. That's been the way of the world. Younger people are typically more naive than older people. Maturation is a shedding of innocence. Cap in Avengers, if you take away the sleep time, is younger than Stark or Banner.

YASS this was the first MCU film that I felt the fandom culture begin. I have a hard time feeling confident in social stuff especially like random convo and it just felt amazing to gush about a movie and recreate scenes in the playground and know you were all on the same page

Fury keeping secrets from the team and them going off without his approval or authorization to confront Loki is the first step towards the Avengers being fully independent of any government control because they can't fully trust those in power. It comes all the way back around in Civil War

Fun fact. Tobey's Spiderman was supposed to be in this movie, buy the whole Sony and Marvel thing ruined it. There are deleted scenes from other movies, mainly Iron Man 1 and Spiderman 2 about it. They only released a deleted scene where Nick Fury talked about Spider Man, and it was revealed Doc Ock's arms were actually supposed to have been partially developed by Stark.

I enjoyed Harry Dean Stanton's security guard character asking Bruce Banner if he was an alien, since Mr. Stanton was in the original Alien movie.

After credits in Avengers are not actors act "oh I am so tired " but real people who are tired of playing the fight scene many times in the movie Avengers. They are sitting in a real restaurant in NY which was playing in a movie and they eat the real shawarma.

Of all the wonderful things/quotes in this movie, till date every once in a while my sister and I would just crack ourselves of up with *"Doth mother know you weareth her drapes"* 😂 So we were about 12/13 when we watched this and at that age of trying on momma's clothes/jewelry/makeup,it was just hilarious when one of us would catch the other in momma's things, sneaking out or something and the quote/joke has been our thing ever since 😂😂😂

"Loki is maybe physical weaker" Just remembering: he's a Ice giant, he Fight with captain América and, Yes, he isn't strong as an asgardian but his physical strenght still is highter than all the human beings

I watched this reaction a few days ago, just was too tired to comment at the time. I love The Avengers and how they had to learn to work together even if they didn't know each other well. I'm glad that Loki over time...got to be in a way more human and less villain.
