Astrid was THAT bitch. She was personally my favorite in the entire movie. And her last scene with her husband and her scathing comment to him. PERFECTION

I love the mahjong scene, cause Rachel gives up a tile that Elenore needs to win, then proceeds to show what her hand was, if she kept it she would have won by a lot, she was basically saying "you win, but remember it is because I let you win"

If I was Rachel’s mom I would’ve thrown down with Eleanor just for the integrity of my daughter- no mahjong just these hands 👊🏾

We forgive Nick's lack of info in this movie for the fact that he ADORES Rachel. There isn't a moment where you question how much he completely loves her.

For me, that last scene, when Rachel has that moment looking at Eleanor across the party - just a subtle nod of acknowledgement, not saying everything is going to be hunky dory with them, but a moment of respect. SUCH a powerful performance with such subtle expressions.

THE WEDDING SCENE. when she stuck out her leg into the water and the music stopped. the WHOLE THEATER breathe taken. You could hear a pin drop from how much we entranced we were from that scene.

This entire movie is just “audience wishes they were living Rachel’s life for two hours” and honestly, I love it 😂 what a phenomenal and gorgeous cast, and the outfits????? Amazing

Michelle Yeoh is still so beautiful, even decades after winning Miss Malaysia in '83. Her skincare is immaculate. I was enamored with her ever since Supercop, and she never disappoints.

I always love that wedding scene, especially when the groom starts to cry at the sight of his bride; her dress is EVERYTHING Rachel sharing that look with Nick across the aisle-best depiction of adoration I’ve ever seen in film❤️

I love this movie so much. Honestly, the whole drama this movie brought reminded me of telenovelas, which I appreciated but yknow. Michelle Yeoh was a childhood idol and she never disappoints in any role she’s in. God I love her. I really wanted to hate her in this movie but her being her, I couldn’t.

Fun fact! In the book Alastair actually isn’t an asshole like he’s portrayed in the movie through his few moments. He’s pretty chill tbh. Also, in the book Eleanor isn’t the one who calls her husband to buy the hotel, it’s actually her sister in law Felicity who calls her own husband and he purchases the hotel. Eleanor in the movie is very different from the book.

the Mahjong scene was such a deep cultural cut I understand why a lot of non-players didn't see it. Basically, Rachel gave up a winning piece and implicitly showed Eleanor that she let her win.

This movie had everything and it brought back to life romcoms for me. Also... I died and was brought to life several times with the *fashion* and the beauty of this movie

I love this and the book so much, but I wish they would have explained Michael's affair better. In the books, he set up an entire scheme of an "affair" (he wasn't actually cheating) because he wanted an easy way out of Astrid's family.

The book is amazing with all the chinese distinctions between main and overseas as well as the gossip between rich circles
