Without a doubt my favorite movie of 2023 . Saw it twice n theaters, and I’m not a big Disney fan, but hearing Halle’s voice on the trailer gave me chills. And the chemistry between her and the actor playing Prince Eric was off the charts. And yes, Hans Christian Anderson is indeed the original author of the story.
Thanks for confirming that he was the originator of The Little Mermaid Story! And yes Halle Bailey has such a beautiful tone, it sort of reminds me of “old Hollywood” in a way. I became a fan of hers when I listened to a cover she did of Nat King Cole’s Unforgettable. If you would like you can give it a listen here, ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-T4MajGTp1x8.html
She's a mermaid. Her voice/gift is that of a Siren's.... Therefore that's why Eric's in love with the voice, whether he hears it come out of Ariel or Vanessa(Ursula). Sirens bewitch men with their voices... But, he came to love Ariel, without her voice. So he's not just bewitched by her in the end...
Oh I didn’t realize that! I thought it was a combination of olden day chivalry/honor and the allure of a mermaid’s singing. Thanks for telling me! I appreciate it :)
Eric was under a spell when he asked Vanessa (Ursula) to marry him. In the animation, Eric the moment he heard the voice/spell and asked for the wedding day of, to the surprise of Grimsby. It was a very zombie-like trance. In this version, Ariel’s siren song, used by Ursula, enchanted Eric to be attracted to Vanessa. So he asked for a wedding engagement and he doesn’t understand why he’s doing any of it, while he’s actively asking for Ariel
Ursula was portrayed by Melissa McCarthy. I was nervous at first, because she's known more for over-the-top slapstick comedy. But she did an amazing job in TLM2023
@@michelleneedsahobby You know short-bus people were trying to compare her to Pat Carroll (the voice of the animated Ursula), right? SMDH!!! Melissa McCarthy acted her @$$ off and she discovered that she had some singing pipes as well! Color me surprised!!!
This reminds me that during the scene at 11:40 - 11:51 the actor who plays Eric said that this was one of the best days. He said he didn't even really have to act and that he could just enjoy Halle's voice.
Ok so since you aren't super familiar with the 1989 animated film, when Ariel is exploring the market, a woman gives her fruit and then hands her a dinglehopper. That woman is Jodi Benson, the woman who has been voicing animated Ariel since the original film. She quite literally is handing the "fork" to a new generation and when I watched this movie in theaters I spent 2 hours and 45 minutes crying lol. But this is also a great opprotunity for you to revisit the animated film and see it again *wink* *wink*
😯 Oh I had no idea the original voice actress was in the movie. What a fun Easter egg and you’re right that is a wonderful way to capture the “passing on torch” in the movie. Thank you for pointing that out to me!!!!
I'm with you with knowing Kiss the Girl (Ashley Tisdale version). I know the lyrics of it more than I know Under the Sea which everyone knew. I think its because of Disney Mania where Disney artists cover iconic songs from Disney itself and they show them on tv whenever its commercial.
That is such a true sentiment. Funnily enough, I only watched the animated movie once while in elementary school yet I still couldn’t escape the nostalgic feeling because I consumed the songs and the story through other forms of media. Kingdom Hearts and when Disney Channel actors would do covers of their flagship movies. Disney has a hold on the world in so many ways 🤣
32:43 Yes, there is, and Ursula also killed each one of the merpeople who couldn't hold their end of their bargain. That's why skeleton bodies and heads is in Ursula's cave!
I was not able to watch this in theaters because of heath issues but as soon as I was able to I bought it on RU-vid and I'm glad I did. Honestly I have to go with Grimsby for my favorite character in this movie.
Yes, Ashley Tisdale did do a cover of Kiss the Girl. Ursula was played by comedian Melissa McCarthy. She was in the TV show Gilmore Girls, the movies Brides Maids and Identity Thief..to name a few.
I think you'd really enjoy Disney's "Cinderella" from 2015. It's more like a great homage or reinterpretation to & of the animated film from the 50's, respectively, than a straight up remake. It's the best one next to "TLM" imo. Very romantic, cute, funny but also relatable/modern in terms of the more heavier themes like abuse. Yet it unapologetically remains a fairytale full of wonder & magic. Absolutely recommendable! 🧚♀️🥿💎
@@michelleneedsahobby Thank YOU! 💙 You're more than welcome. 😇 I think it also won an Oscar for best costume design & if not it should have. Cate Blanchett as the wicked stepmother, always giving high fashion, is just such a delight to watch. 😈💅😄
