But or Rent - Elemental - • Elemental | Official T...
Disney and Pixar’s “Elemental,” an all-new original feature film that transports moviegoers to an extraordinary place called Element City, where a host of elements live and work. The trailer showcases each element-air, earth, water and fire-and what sets them apart according to Ember, a quick-witted and fiery woman who’s always stayed close to home in Firetown. In “Elemental,” which opens in theaters on June 16, she finally ventures out of her comfort zone to explore this spectacular world born from the imaginations of Pixar’s filmmakers and specifically crafted for the big-screen experience. Element City is inspired by big cities around the globe and embraces theorized contributions from each elemental community-from giant pine-tree-like buildings and waterfall skyscrapers to a tornado-shaped arena called Cyclone Stadium.
Joining the previously announced voice cast including Leah Lewis and Mamoudou Athie as Ember and Wade, respectively, are Ronnie del Carmen as Ember’s soon-to-be retired dad, Bernie; Shila Ommi as Ember’s love-seeking mom, Cinder; Wendi McLendon-Covey as Wade’s stormy and Air-Ball-loving boss, Gale; Catherine O’Hara as Wade’s welcoming mom, Brook; Mason Wertheimer as Ember’s admiring earth neighbor, Clod; and Joe Pera as an overgrown city bureaucrat, Fern.
Directed by Peter Sohn, produced by Denise Ream, p.g.a., and executive produced by Pete Docter, “Elemental” features a screenplay by John Hoberg & Kat Likkel and Brenda Hsueh with story by Sohn, Hoberg & Likkel and Hsueh. The film’s original score was composed and conducted by Thomas Newman.

As Korean, I can feel that this movie represents the korean immigrants who moved to america. The water guy represents american, the fire girl represents korean. Korean does the 'big bow' to the parents. And fire girl can eat coal(spicy food) well, and water boy can't. Movie directer's parents were the immigrants from korea, and he made this movie with their several expirences. Sorry for my short Eng..😂❤

Fun fact: Wade and Ember being able to touch without killing each other is based on real science. It's called the Leidenfrost effect, which is when something hot like Ember touches a liquid like Wade and a layer of steam is created which acts as an insulator which keeps the rest of the liquid from evaporating.
@ZacGamer17

I swear, Ember and Wade are just perfect for each other in so many ways imaginable. Their love is just so powerful throughout this entire movie, when they hold hands and kiss, my heart literally melted. I was just in complete awe. One of the greatest couples I’ve seen, definitely one of my top favourites. Well done, Pixar! 100/10!!! ❤🔥💧❤ We need a sequel with them having a steam baby possibly, that would be amazing. This movie is a beautiful romcom that shows interesting themes. Interracial yes but also first gen interracial. Having the pressure to honor and keep the old country and culture while being born in a brand new world. Navigating living in a diverse society. I believe they wanted Ember to never think of the shop as her dream, but more she always wanted to make her Father proud. I am a first gen on my fathers side, and my parents are an interracial couple as well. My Dad had to go thru not being accept by my Mom's side. they both experienced prejudice. As I grew up I experienced prejudice as well. I also was pressured into stuff my parents want. This movie really showed a small part of society not often talked about.

This is my thought exactly. Compared to other Pixar movies, this movie wasn't exactly amazing. Still much better than others they have done though. The message was great, especially the fact about feeling like you have to give up on what you want to please your parents. That got me good. But even if you're not a fan if the plot, it's still worth a watch just for the visuals alone 🙂

This movie made me cry so bad. As an immigrant kid in NYC, all of the themes revolving around racism, generational trauma, privilege, and the nods to the immigrant experience in NYC like Ellis island and grand central- made me so emotional. This one really hit home for me.
@aricaj.3006
@aricaj.3006 8 месяцев назад
This movie definitely resonates as a child of an immigrant mom and as the product of an interracial/cross-cultural relationship. It's not the best film by Pixar but it deserves more appreciation for tackling those topics in a creative way, especially since they're rarely if ever the focus of family-oriented films. It actually reminds me a lot of _My Big Fat Greek Wedding_ , which is worth reacting to if you haven't seen it. That also covers the story of a first-gen child of immigrant parents who falls in love with someone outside her culture, but it's a bit more on the comedic side and a really fun watch

The fire people are assumedly a parallel to Koreans (which I think is VERY cool representation as a Korean American). I believe the director, Peter Sohn, based it off his experiences growing up in a family of Korean immigrants in America. There are definitely some similarities to Korean culture (the hot food being like how Korean culture has a lot of spicy food, the 'big bow' being something we literally do, the complicated relationship with parents and their expectations for their children being a famously Asian thing, etc). Ultimately though, it's non-specific enough where it can connect to immigrant families of any culture Also, they DID show why Ember's parents have such a negative view of water people. Their entire lives after moving to Element City, they've had difficulties because of water people. From being put out by their water (2:19 in this video), to not being accepted by them because they're 'dangerous' (18:22), to literally having their store's merchandise be damaged by them as a form of harassment (4:14). It obviously shouldn't apply to ALL water people, but you can understand why they have those prejudices after all of the struggles they've been through

This movie was inspired by Pete Sohn's own childhood, teenage years and early adulthood. Like with Bernie and Cinder, Pete's parents immigrated from Korea to New York where they opened up a fruits and vegetables shop, how they had with prejudice and racism from non-asian people plus the culutural clash between them and Sohn's then girlfriend (now wife) and similar to Ember, Pete and his brothers were meant to take over the store once their parents got too old too work. This movie was dedicated to Sohn's parents as they passed away during the production. Pete Sohn animated at Pixar since Finding Nemo., voiced characters like The Mugger in The Incredibles, Emile in Rataouille (both directed by Brad Bird), Squishy in Monsters University, Forrest Woodbush in The Good Dinosaur and nearly became the new Pixar Good-Luck Charm (similar to John Ratzenberger who voiced a character from Toy Story up to Onward but for some reason didn't in Soul and hasn't voiced any Pixar character ever since) Ciccio in Luca and Sox in Lightyear and an addition to directing his movie, he also did The Good Dinosaur taking over from Bob Peterson (who co-directed Monsters, Inc., Finding Nemo and Up).

17:36 Rogue can touch Gambit, it takes some time but at some point Gambit is able to, its either resist or not be effected by her draining his energy. The Romeo and Juliet connection is there along with the interracial relationships. There's family telling them no and then society adds in their opinions. The matter of not many songs with lyrics well this is Pixar more so than Disney. Pixar is incredible when it comes to its soundtrack even if there's little to no lyric songs.

Lack of nuance online. There’s no doubt about that. You’ve seen it all, the whole “X is a masterpiece, Y is garbage” and “mid is not good enough for me and therefor garbage!” There’s no “I had a fun time or I’m not super into it” there’s no nuance and so everyone piggybacks off the idea that something is this or that and “it’s not an opinion it’s a FACT.” There’s no complex discussion, So many surface level takes, no room for discussion except to create an echo chamber of likewise thinking.

Even though it's the highest grossing original animated film in soo long, which is a feat in a post-COVID post-Disney+ world, this film's box office is special cause it opened with the lowest opening weekend since Pixar's first film and then it just kept going and going and never dropping in the box office until it passed 486mil. It's special cause this happened in almost every country as well; opened very low but just kept going and going with word of mouth. For context: animated films opening so low make 200-250mil, Elemental doubled that.

More people need to hear this and also need to hear that we don’t NEED a villain. The issue is we’ve been fed the same “I have to point fingers at someone” black and white level storytelling for centuries that we’re too used to it and subconsciously think it’s what the world is when in reality, the issues are far more complex and intergenerational.

I honestly, to my surprise, actually enjoyed watching this movie. While not perfect, it's still very fun to watch; and some scenes were emotional enough to touch me. The animation is unique, the story is good, the music is catchy, and the characters are fun. And the chemistry between Wade and Ember is pretty believable, because it does take its time to develop it - even if you can tell almost right away. And I suppose their personalities almost match their elements: Ember has trouble with her fiery temper, while Wade tends to be a sympathetic crier. To me, Wade and Ember have one of the most realistic relationships in any Disney movie, because while you can tell there is something between them, they still start off as good friends, and confirm their love near the end of the movie; thus becoming a real couple. They say opposites attract, and that's very true in their case - but they also have things in common. The moment when Ember met Wade's family was fun to watch because it showed how far society has come to accepting others; and yes, the game where Wade made Ember cry for the first time was very touching because it what sparked their true feeling for each other. It would have been nice to hear more about Wade's father; like what kind of man he was, what he did for a living, and what caused his relationship with Wade to drift away. It also would have been nice to see more of Clod, he definitely should of had a bigger role. I also wish they explained more of the crack in the dam - did it just get old, or was it caused by something? The part where Ember and Wade have an argument over their differences, that I also wish had a bit more attention put to it. I mean, Ember got her say on how she feels, but Wade never really explained his point of view. Maybe he could have told Ember that just because he comes from luxury, he never truly did what he wanted because of everything his father expected of him growing up - and his dying wish was for Wade to find his own path. Also, Wade could have told Ember that the reason his family has money is because of how much hard work they put into making a life for their families. Overall, I did enjoy the movie. And I actually thought that Wade died in the end - but it's Disney; they don't do that. And I'm actually glad they didn't. It would have been nice to see more of Ember and Wade's childhood. Maybe have them cross each other's paths multiple times (as they grew up), but never actually interacted. And the movie could have also explained why the are things fire can touch, while there are things that burst into flames. If there's ever a sequel...I'd watch it. Maybe it could be about Wade and Ember getting married and starting a family.

I think it's better than The Good Dinosaur. I think it's also got a lot more themes that people can relate to.

This movie has a lot of adult jokes in the movie. I like this movie, but somehow it's just not great. I dont know why that is. But you can hear it in your reaction too. It's just more flat than with other movies. But it's still a nice movie 🤷‍♀️
