This movie was so refreshing and unique compared to what we have seen in the past. I loved all the references to popular movies and games that are sprinkled around the whole movie, the cameos of well known streamers was a great decision that helped to make it feel like it could been happening in real life. Chris Evans seeing Guy use Cap's shield is so freaking awesome The only thing I didn't understand in the movie was the line: "who would have thought people would like to watch a game instead of playing it" , especially since the streamers they showed are the direct proof of it being the case.
I think that's sort of the meta-question itself... I mean, if you're a game developer, worked through the nineties into the early aughts, were you making your games to be played, or were you making them to be played by just a few people being watched? Aside from the simulation games, by definition they're made to be played. I think the concept was extremely foreign, that there'd be an audience who'd gleefully watch personalities just... ...play games. LOL technically that's even worse than movie-watch-alongs, games are meant to be INTERACTIVE, movies are meant to be watched. I'm sure some developers feel kinda gut-punched
Think it is more that in the long run people enjoy it more when NPC’s seem to be less predictable… which is why AI NPC’s are slowly being made, no matter what a player does the NPC will never act the same way (mostly)… imagine in GTA 6 when you shot an NPC any related NPC actually goes on its own revenge quest to kill you the player. etc or as an example from this movie.. the barista starts learning new brews because you mentioned it?
I watch this movie every night to fall asleep & end up watching the whole thing more often than not. Buddy is one of my favorite characters of all time - I adore him with Guy. Perfect
The studio making this movie was acquired by Disney right as the last 20% was being finished. Ryan Reynolds contacted Disney afterwards asking if they could use some Disney properties to finish the film. The response was "Yes." Ryan responded with "Which ones?" Disney responded with "Yes." So, they re-shot some scenes and went all out for the fight with Dude.
Such a great and fun film, but ultimately really thought provoking. If anyone here's played Mass Effect, this film reminds me of the Geth, ad the argument of "Is artificial life, still life?" In the ME trilogy the geth gain sentience and finally they ask their creator. "Does this unit, have a soul?"
Yo you NEED to react to The Raid and its sequel, The Raid Redemption. Its THE BEST action movie ive ever seen, the action sequence is just crazy. Hope the reaction comes fast!
28:00 The world database (worldstate) would reset, but the player database (which Guy isn't in) wouldn't. So, levels, inventories, stay. Everything else gets reset. That's the normal way it works anyway.
It fr tripped me out seeing the npc's dissappear from their normal job and seeing that happen in gta like sometimes the gas station was missing the cashier constantly, I believe the bug got patched but I always wondered what they was doing must've been having a coffee party lol
I don't think "Ready Player One" is directly comparable. Although it is a (multi-)world VR simulation, there are no AI NPCs. In RPO you can jump into different worlds and hunt, have fun or spend your time in other ways. They usually only meet other avatars (controlled by a player). An exception that just occurred to me is a short excerpt from the first flight through the "OASIS" where an avatar (?) is hanging on the rope of "Batman" on an icy mountain side and is being pulled up with him. The voiceover casually says that you can even climb Mount Everest with Batman! Certain people - like H/Helen - can even "reprogram" their own environment in virtual reality to intervene in another area of the code (e.g. the motorcycle destroyed by Kong, or the office of the IOI boss). In contrast, in "Free City" there is only one world (= city), which - if necessary - can only be "redesigned" from the outside. That's why there are NPCs who fill the city - and unfortunately serve as cannon fodder due to Antwan's design!
I like that they model Blue Shirt Guy after a "bottom up AI" in other words, its is an AI that learns to become human, instead of the traditional AI that is designed to be human from the start.
When Hollywood make video game movies like this with pop culture references all in it, it always slaps Free Guy and Ready Player One are the two I think about, maybe the only two that exist but idk
Wait I just thought of something what if guy getting to the island did nothing and the reason why it appeared was because Antwon accidentally deleted the thing blocking it from view
Yes - and no. You watch them grow. And you can and may interact with them to support their growth. This additional input leads to many situations and life paths that would not have arisen if they had only met each other. In real life: A prominent example of “misuse” of early AI occurred a few years ago. A large company (unfortunately I can't find the name online) had presented its new AI - and asked that online users "talk" to it so that it could continue to grow. Within a few hours/days the AI suddenly had right-wing extremist and Nazi slogans and spread anti-Semitic and anti-migrant statements. It got so bad that the AI had to be turned off. Just because some idiotic trolls flooded this young artificial "brain" with their propaganda bullshit!
