Gremlins 2 is a tonal shift into the absurd and physical comedy with a meta self referential flare. I love part 2 for what it is! Gremlins is a classic, Gremlins 2 is a very enjoyable guilty pleasure!

Gremlins the story is told 100% earnest. Gremlins 2 the story is told 100% tongue in cheek meta parody. Both movies are excellent!!! Just don't expect the second movie to be like the first in tone. (Also, I personally like the first one the best, but only by a tiny bit.)

Gremlins 2 is a little different, but has the same main characters (including Gizmo). It's more chaotic :), I think you'd enjoy it.

Part 2 is funnier and crazier than this film. But Gizmo is only in a few scenes. Most of the movie is about the corporation and the evolved Gremlins.

Such a cute movie, bit it does have some scary scenes. The original script was a lot darker than the film itself: Billy's mom was going to be decapitated by the gremlins and they were going to throw her head down the flight of stairs. The gremlins were also going to attack a McDonald's restaurant but instead of eating the hamburgers they were going to kill and eat the customers. Gizmo was going to be a gremlin at the films climax in order to defeat Stripe, but Spielberg didn't like this version of the script and had Gizmo become the hero.

Gremlins is my 2nd favorite movie of all time and my favorite Christmas movie. It’s a tradition in my household to watch Gremlins on Christmas Eve night. And girl, yes! watch Gremlins 2!

You should see the sequel much more funny and less dark but not a christmas movie. Fun fact the actor Billy creep boss who liked Billy girlfriend Kate played with her (The actress) in another movie "Fast time in Richmond High" 2 years before where he was "Simping" about her if you know what I mean in a very famous memorable scene from the 80s :) . which made the actress a star. :). Another fun fact Kizmo was supposed to be Stripe but they decided to keep them separate even the mother was suppose to beheaded. Another great underrated action Christmas movie you should see is Reindeer games 2000 with Ben Affleck. no one react to it yet.

Great reaction girl! And they are right, if you loved Gizmo (as you do) you need to definitely react to 'Gremlins 2: The New Batch".. He's even cuter, it's set in New York, the Mogwais all have different personalities & traits & some of the Gremlins change into these crazy forms. You won't believe it & will absolutely LOVE IT! I highly recommend it, it's my favorite of the two.. Keep up the great work, chick!!

Gremlins 2: The new batch is great, its more a self satire of advertisements and cable broadcasting and they had more money to create unique types of Gremlins. For this movie, the deaths were originally a lot more gruesome with the teacher having multiple syringes in the face and Mrs. Peltzer's head bouncing downstairs like a Tales from the crypt story.

Gremlins aren't really evil. At least, they just want to have fun and entertain themselves. It is just that their sense of fun is mayorly twisted. And ok, that ends up in them doing bad/evil things if you look at it from our perspective. But they don't have a moral framework (except for Gizmo, that is why he is different. Sort of a reverse psychopath in their species) so in their perspective there is no good or evil. Just fun = good, no fun = bad. Given the choice between good or evil, they always pick fun! Gremlins 2 shows it even better, a must see if you have seen this movie.

Of all of the reactions to one of my all-time favorite films, your reaction to this film was the greatest. 😊 I love so much watching you fall in love with Gizmo. A little trivia in case you don’t know yet: Besides “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom”, it was because of “Gremlins” in 1984 that the ratings board created the first ever PG-13 rating. In regards to the creation of the Mogwai, it is films like this that I say: “CGI my ass.” The puppet and animatronics is why Gizmo and the Gremlins looked so real. I say the same about E.T., and Yoda from “Empire Strikes Back” and “Return of the Jedi”. I know for certain that you would not have reacted to Gismo the way you did - which I absolutely Loved - if he was all in CGI like the films of today.

I was age 4 in 1984 and Gremlins was one of so many 'unavoidable' classics that year. Written by Chris Columbus (director of Home Alone 1 & 2). It's loosely based upon an urban legend of WW2. Also Inspiring a cartoon by WB's Looney Tunes' called "Falling Hare" (1943) with Bugs Bunny and it had one gremlin that was enough trouble as is. It's balance of dark, superstitious and goofy really worked for me. Billy's mom totally wrecked those gremlins in the house. Can't believe that she would've been killed in an earlier draft of the script (decapitation). Hardee's had collectors drinking glasses at the time. I had the movie storybook (cassette and book combo). Many toys were out, I really wanted the 'Gizmo driving car' toy and was mad that I never got it. Howie Mandel (Gizmo) was a well-known comic actor of the time. Frank Welker (Stripe) was an legendary voice actor of iconic cartoons including Scooby-Doo & Transformers. This as the first film is untouchable. I keep hearing about an planned remake and definitely don't want that. I never liked the 1989 sequel neither. Watch that at your own risk.

Fun fact: Gremlins was released in theaters on June 8, 1984 - the exact same day Ghostbusters premiered. While Ghostbusters brought in an incredible (for 1984 standards) $295 million at the box office, Gremlins did very well also somehow making $212 million during the same stretch.

Love this classic 80's movie. Saw it in theaters when I was 9 1984 is also the same year Ghostbusters came out. The town Square movie set in Gremlins has been used in many movies and TV shows since 1948 including Back to the Future. Who could forget the famous clock tower/court house.

The sequel is pretty fun yes, wildest and weirdest too, maybe not as good as the first one since the element of surprise are gone, but definitively worth a watch. I've always loved Gizmo ever since I saw this movie as a kid. Gizmo to me will always be the most adorable character in movie history. He is even twice as adorable in the sequel. As for the suicide rates Kate mentioned in the movie. They're actually at their lowest during the Winter but peak in the Spring. Her reason for not liking the holidays is understandable as many people who have suffered a tragic loss or a traumatic experience at this time of year probably wouldn't celebrate Christmas either as it would just be a reminder of what happened to them years back.

Actually, there was a time period in which suicide rates were the highest during holidays (not just Christmas). This is no longer the case, and was only true for a set period of time.

The actor playing the befuddled inventor dad, Hoyt Axton, was also a respected singer/songwriter - his most famous composition is "Joy to the World" ("Jeremiah was a bullfrog / Was a good friend of mine") that was a hit for Three Dog Night. Joe Dante has been a huge maven of cartoons and fantasy films - in one shot here, you will see Robby the Robot from FORBIDDEN PLANET, the original machine from THE TIME MACHINE, and other iconic sci-fi movie props.

Spielberg and Lucas made absolute magic from the mid 1970’s and on, and such diverse films! (Example: Gremlins to Schindlers List, to Indiana Jones to Poltergeist to Close Encounters of the Third Kind to Saving Private Ryan)
