Who is your favourite teacher (that we've seen so far) and why? Mine is Snape just because... I don't know I just want to know more about him. This is definitely my favourite Harry Potter movie.. so far. No idea if another one will win out in the end, but I really enjoyed this one. The channel has passed 200 subscribers so by this logic... I gain 100 subscribers every video so in a few more videos it'll be 500 and near the end of the Harry Potter franchise 1,000! My favourites (both in the books and the movies) were always McGonagall and Lupin. Their methods differ, but it's always clear how much they care for their students. McGonagall is the strict but fair one, the quiet and collected one, but absolutely badass and savage when needed, and fond of her students. Especially in the books, some of her one liners are just golden! Meanwhile Lupin is that younger teacher who won't let the students get crazy, but still UNDERSTANDS them (fun fact - him and Sirius are only 33 here, Harry's parents had him when they were 20). We get much more of him in the books, and it's mentioned that he helped many students overcome their insecurities, and they often mention him as one of the best professors they've ever had, who actually TAUGHT them stuff, some openly protesting when they heard he quit because of magical prejudice. He's the kind of teacher who sees shenanigans and goes "I'll make sure you don't get in trouble for it , but there won't be a second time, ok?" which he actually does when he helps Harry get away with using the Marauders Map in front of Snape. Also, it's so clear sometimes that he's one of the Marauders, his offhand comments are some of the best, and there's a scene where he shoots a school poltergeist in the noise with a chewing gum stuck in the keyhole. And he just... Cares. A lot. He borrows Neville some books. When he figures out Harry is bummed he can't go to Hogsmeade, he offers him tea and a chat to get his mind out of it. Just a really cool teacher

All the teachers knew about (or thought they knew about) Sirius being Harry's Godfather and wanting to kill him. That's exactly why they did not let him go to Hogsmeade, using his unsigned permission slip as an excuse. They wanted to keep him safe at the school.

Fun fact: when Lupin was a kid, his parents didn't think he could go to Hogwarts because of his condition (he was turned at only 8 years old). Dumbledore still wanted to give him the opportunity, so he built the Shrieking Shack and the tunnel leading it to the Whomping Willow (which he also planted there) so Lupin could go there every full moon and turn without hurting anyone. Then he created the rumours that the Shrieking Shack was haunted, so people wouldn't be curious when they hear the screams and roars.

Fun fact, Voldemort cursed the position of Defense Against the Dark Arts as revenge for being rejected the position at Hogwarts. Basically the curse was so no teacher would keep that position for more than a year. I like this version of time travel. It's called Novikov's Self-Consistency Principle, in which if there's an event that would change the past, the timeline would correct itself. Basically the time travelers/people have the illusion of free will, except they don't actually change history but instead become a part of history as if nothing changed. This had many people believing that people should be able to use this to defeat Voldemort, but the problem arises when you that this specific time turner doesn't allow that. It is actually possible to do so as revealed in The Cursed Child, and it's possible to change the past, but in this specific instance Harry and Hermione were in a Closed Loop and couldn't (they essentially caused a paradox while fixing it at the same time). Also the Ministry actually had a department dedicated to the study of time. They sent one person back to 1402, and when she came back to present time she immediately aged 500 years as if she lived during that time. As a result of her travel many other things happened like time slowing down or speeding up, and people disappearing. The Ministry discovered that 5 hours is the maximum amount of time one can make if they don't want to cause any disturbances in time. They put an Hour-Reversal Charm to ensure that this specific model of time turners only went back 5 hours, so as to not cause any damages to time itself. They created this Time-Turner to make it so time wouldn't seriously change or be broken, as they saw time travel as dangerous and disastrous should one travel too far back or change the past. These models are only to be used for menial things like time management or stuff like Hermione needing to take extra classes. There were hundreds of laws put in place to ensure no one would misuse them. A Ministry member states "Just as the human mind cannot comprehend time, so it cannot comprehend the damage that will ensue if we presume to tamper with its laws." Also the Ministry didn't expel him for a couple of reasons. 1). The Ministry is more lenient to young wizards performing magic, because the young witch/wizard's magical ability is unstable and hard to control at a young age. Harry was excused for using the Lumos spell in Prisoner of Azkaban (movie) because it wasn't severe, it's the equivalent of turning on a magical flashlight. Turning his aunt into a balloon was an accident since he was still young and learning how to control his magic. 2). If they're using spells that are otherwise harmless or aren't as severe in the Ministry's eyes, they will let you off with a warning. It's similar to how littering is against the law and how you can get a fine up to $500, but you will most likely get a warning at first if caught. In fact, in Chamber of Secrets (book), he got a letter from the Ministry when Dobby performed magic in his house. They didn't know Dobby was there and they know Harry lives with Muggle relatives, so they assumed it was him. He's been given a few warnings, but as he gets older (as as things become more dangerous) he will exhaust his warnings.

Oh, definitely full of hot air. She's quite something 😡
@Cinemabu11
@Cinemabu11 2 года назад
Fun fact, here's how the Ministry tracks Underage Magic. It's against the law to perform magic outside of school or certain areas under the age of 17. They monitor underage magic with The Trace. The Trace allows them to only see that Underage Magic has been performed IN THE VICINITY an underage wizard or if an underage wizard uses it, they can't figure out WHO performed it unless they go to that area themselves. But the reason they know/think Harry performed it was because he lives in an area in which they KNOW there are no wizards in that area. Depending on the circumstances, witches and wizards can use/be near magic when underage, like when they are at Hogwarts or when it's to defend themselves from Dark Wizards. Or if they NEED to Apparate, they should do it while being supervised by an adult wizard, similar to how you need a licensed adult in the car with you, and a learner's permit when you're practicing how to drive at 16. Underage wizards/witches have trouble controlling their innate magical abilities at a young age, as it could be unstable, meaning they can perform magic by accident. So the Ministry is more lenient when wizards/witches are very young. But as they get older the Ministry expects the parents to enforce the rules within the household.

@erikperhs_

Some important things they left out of the movie (even though I really think they shouldn't have): - The Marauders were actually Sirius, Lupin, James (Harry's dad) and Peter. They created the map when they were students at Hogwarts, that's why Lupin knew how to use the map and that the map never lies. - When Peter, Sirius and James discovered about Lupin being a werewolf, they decided to become animagi so they could be with him when he turned and keep him safe. It's an extremely complex process that takes months, but they did it. Peter became a rat, Sirius was a dog and James was a stag. - There's a type of Patronus Charm that takes the form of an animal. That's why Harry thought it was his dad when he saw the stag-shaped Patronus at the lake. But Harry's Patronus is also a stag, probably because the memory he uses is tied to his dad. - When Harry goes to the Leaky Cauldron in the beginning of the movie, he has that talk with the Minister of Magic and the Minister asks him to stay there until it's time for him to go to Hogwarts. In the books, Harry stays there for a week, studying and reading in his room and sometimes going down to Diagon Alley to have ice cream! Ron and Hermione are there simply because they have to shop for their school materials at Diagon Alley and they knew Harry was staying at the Leaky Cauldron, so they decided to pay him a visit.

A part of the book that the films sadly didn't get to cover is more about Professor Trelawney & Divination. Everyone calls her a right fraud and that all her predictions (most of which are full of doom and death) are just made up. And even though her real genuine prediction about 'servant and master shall be reunited once more' (ie. Pettigrew going back to Voldemort) appears to be the only real one, almost every other prediction she makes in the book turns out to be true: In the first lesson she claims: 'One of our class will leave us forever.' Everyone assumes this to mean Harry will die, but it actually is Hermione who leaves the subject forever. Funnily enough though in his end of year exam, Harry is meant to examine a crystal ball, and makes up that he sees a hippogriff. Trelawney eggs him on, mentioning it could be the outcome of Hagrid & Buckbeak, asks him if it still has its head. Harry argues against this and says it flies away. Even Harry's made up prediction turns true, as Buckbeak doesn't get executed and instead flies away with Sirius. (I have a head canon that Trelawney was going to mark Harry badly, but after finding out Buckbeak disappeared she improved his grade)

I don't remember when the books reveal it, but Snape, Harry's parents, Sirius, and Lupin were in Hogwarts together and they carry the baggage of that with them. Full marks on figuring out Scabbers as Pettigrew and Lupine as a Werewolf. I'm really enjoying your reactions. A couple of things: First: The Minister of Magic and everyone at the Leaky Cauldron. Keep in mind that the Ministry of Magic, the Hogwarts professors, etc. all knew and accepted the story that Sirius had murdered Pettigrew and betrayed Harry's parents so that they would be murdered by Voldemort. Once Sirius escaped and Potter left the sanctuary of the Dursleys, they enacted basically a protective custody arrangement. The Minister bought Harry's books and took them to the Cauldron and the Weasleys and Hermione were brought to the Cauldron so that Harry would have no inducements to go wandering without company or supervision until it was time to go back to Hogwarts. Second: The Divination professor was having a true prophecy experience when she was talking to Harry once he returned the crystal ball. Third: This is a flaw in the editing decisions for the movie compared to the book. A couple minutes flashback or conversation between Harry and Lupine would have illuminated so much. In the novel, Remus, Sirius, James Potter, and Peter Pettigrew were best friends. Remus had been attacked by a werewolf and become one himself. To support and try to control Remus at the full moon, Peter, James, and Sirius studied to become Animagi...Sirius became the black dog, James became a stag, and Peter a rat. The four of them created the Marauder's Map and also the tunnel connecting Whomping Willow to the Shrieking Shack. At the full of the moon the four would go to the Shack and from there let Remus wander while monitoring him until he got control back. Messrs. Moony (Remus), Wormtail (Pettigrew), Padfoot (Sirius) and Prongs (James Potter) were the aliases they used when authoring the salutation on the Marauder's Map. There is more lore about Patronus charms that explain what Harry saw when his future self was saving him and Sirius, but that will come in future movies.

Great reaction! Fun Fact: if you were wondering why the boggart was shifting so fast, it’s because there was multiple people in the room. Therefore it’s hard to focus on one person’s fear; it’s the reason you always have one person at least when you confront a boggart. Also when James and Lily went into hiding, they enchantments placed around their house to prevent Voldemort or his followers from entering. They selected a Secret Keeper, a witch or wizard designated to hide a secret by means of the Fidelius Charm. The secret was embedded in their very soul. Once a Secret Keeper was selected, the person who told them the secret would find themselves unable to pass the information on again, as the Secret Keeper was the only one capable of revealing the secret, whether orally or written. The Secret Keeper could tell as many people as they liked, but they must do so voluntarily. The secret couldn't be blackmailed, bewitched, or tortured out of them. They wanted to select Sirius, but he felt it would’ve been to easy for Voldemort. So they selected Peter Petigrew, unaware that he’d deflected. When he gave them up, he sealed their death. As for how Sirius escaped, while in Azkaban he saw the picture of Ron’s family in Egypt and spotted Peter Petigrew. He then transformed into his animagus form and escaped, since the Dementors were unable to recognize him in this form. 🧔🏻‍♀️🧑🏻🪄🦌👻

I'm still not over how hilariously straight to the point Lupin's and Sirius's names are. A bit of language knowledge is like spoilers. Firstly, Sirius Black. Sirius is the name of a star, the brightest one, famously known as The Dog Star. His name is LITERALLY Black Dog. And that's... A bit obvious, but still ok. But LUPIN? REMUS Lupin?? I read the books when I was like, 11(?) and basically got spoiled by my history exam materials. Remus is the name of one of the mythical founders of Rome, a man raised by a wolf. And Lupin literally means wolf. The author named him Wolf Son of Wolf. Little me was like "hmmm, I WONDER what he'll turn up to be". That's such an ironic match for a werewolf

3:43 didn‘t read the comments yet, so maybe it got mentioned already. Wandless (and silent) magic is a thing, we‘ve seen it in the first movie with the disappearing glass at the zoo and now with aunt karge bloating up. In young wizards, it usually happens during distress/intense emotions, but older wizards can specifically learn and hone the skill. Also I remember reading somewhere (probably on the HP wiki) that the spell to shut someone up is rather close to the one to engorge/bloat something up, so it might have been a little oopsie on harrys side here Lol

Don't know if you know this already but 1) The patronus charm and a wizard's/witch's animagus form are the same. You can't choose which animal you can turn into. It's based on your personality. Like Pettrigrew, he's very cowardly and he ratted the Potter's to Voldemort. Back in their school years, he was always following James Potter, Sirius and Remus. Therefore, he can turn into a rat. Whereas Sirius is very loyal and would die for his friends and family. That's why he can turn into a dog. James was definitely the leader of the group, he was the best at everything when they were younger and he was the bravest. That's why he can turn into huge Stag. Your animal will also pass onto your kids, that's why Harry sees himself as a stag doing the patronus charm before he faints. Your wife would also inherit the animal you are. Harry's mom, Lily's patronus is a female stag (a doe). James Potter, Sirius Black, Remus Lupin and Peter Pettigrew created the marauders map. How? When they were in second grade, I think, they found out Lupin was a werewolf. (Lupin was turned into a werewolf when he was 8 years old by a werewolf named Fenrir Greyback. His parents were afraid he wouldn't be accepted to any school but Dumbledore made it possible. In order for Lupin to transform every month away from other students in secret, Dumbledore had the Shrieking Shack built. Dumbledore also placed the Whomping Willow on the other end of the tunnel so no one could enter that tunnel except for Lupin. Every full moon, Lupin would go through the tunnel and transform away from other students. People would hear howls and screams coming from the Shrieking Shack, not knowing it was Lupin. Dumbledore enforsed rumors of the house being haunted so that students would stay away. James, Sirius and Peter being Remus' closest friends, noticed that he was always missing once a month. So they figured out that he was a werewolf, despite all the excuses he used to give. So in order to keep Lupin company during his transformations, James, Sirius and Peter learned how to turn themselves into animals. It takes a lot of time and dedication to become an animagus. That's why they don't teach it to kids. And Animagi have to register at the ministry of magic. (Otherwise it's illegal.) By their fifth year they finally learned how to turn themselves into animals at will. They didn't register at the ministry tho. That's why no one knew Pettigrew was a rat or that Sirius could turn into a dog. That's actually how he escaped from Azkaban. He slipped through the bars as a dog and swam. They were the obvious bad boys during their hogwarts years. As animals they would run around the school yards and figure out all the secret passages. If they ran into people and Lupin went crazy, since werewolves are only a danger to human beings and not other animals, James and Sirius were big enough animals they could keep Lupin in check. Because of all the roaming around the school yards, they created the marauders map. :) 2) At 25:32 During the werewolf scene you were wondering who has a wand so they could possibly stop the werewolf? Magic doesn't affecr werewolves. :) That's why nobody did nothing. Without Sirius they'd all pretty much be dead. 😳 3) This is not a spoiler since it's not shown in the movies at all. Back when they were younger, Snape and Marauders disliked each other heavily. James and Sirius hated Snape and vice versa. The rivalry was mostly between James and Severus but since Sirius was loyal to his best friend, he got in on it too. In fact, Sirius pulled a prank once that almost killed Snape. Snape also figured out that it was weird Lupin always disappeared every month. So he started asking questions. Sirius confirmed to Snape that Lupin was a werewolf and asked if he would like to see for himself. Of course Snape being curious as heck wanted to see it. So Sirius adviced Snape how to get pass the Whomping Willow and get into the tunnels WHILE Lupin was transforming. Snape saw Luping transforming into a werewolf. The only reason Snape didn't get killed is, once Sirius told James what he had done, James rushed into the Whomping Willow and pulled Snape out of there. As much as he hated him, he didn't want Snape to die and for Lupin to feel horrible after he would've found out that he killed another student. So at 25:39, that face off with Sirius vs Lupin is a full circle moment. Snape has already seen and is about to be killed by the same werewolf. Only now, it's Sirius who saves his life. Sure, Sirius actually does it because of Harry and his friends, but still Snape is alive because of him. This scene shows Sirius has matured a lot and that Snape somewhat respects Sirius because, being an animagus requires you to be an exceptionally talented wizard It also comes with immunity against the werewolf "disease" when you're in your animal form. This is something Snape can't do. 3) What makes Prisoner Of Azkaban the best movie to me is the change of perspectives in the middle of the movie. In the beginning of the movie, Harry sees a black dog and it looks like it wants to hurt him, then he hears that there's a killer on a loose who's trying to kill him. Then in divination class he hears that he has the omen of death, the grim, again the black dog. So noe he has to worry about two beings that want to kill him. He gets to know Lupin and Lupin so amazing towards him, teaches him new magic and tells him about his parents. So he grows to trust Lupin very much. Thrn the shrieking shack scene happens and Harry learns that the huge dog who looked like he wanted to hurt him AND Sirius Black who's been after him the entire year, are actually on his side. The werewolf scene happens and Remus and Sirius completely flip how Harry sees them. The teacher he trusted all the time is now a werewolf trying to kill him, so he's afraid of Lupin. And the huge dog who he was afraid of for almost a year, is now willing to die for him. 😳 It's such a genius way to tell a story. I applaud J.K.Rowling's writing skills and Alfonso for directing this movie. Ps. Sorry for the long comment. 🙏🏽

Your instinct is amazing, you realized so many things that most people don't! One thing about this part is, that here's the only major plot hole that I can attribute to Rowling. There are a few other, smaller things too, but those can mostly be explained away. But not this one: Fred and George had the Marauder's Map for a full year before giving it to Harry, yet they never noticed a person named Peter Pettigrew sleeping in Ron's bed??? Regarding the dementors, they are Rowling's metaphor for depression, something she battled for a long time. Another metaphor is how people treat werewolves, that's analogous to how many people treat those with HIV/AIDS.

Yes we had to get a new Dumbledore because Richard died. In the book we're told Sirius kept saying he's at Hogwarts after seeing Ron's "rat" in the family vacation photo in the paper. My guess is the escape from prison of a "murderer" is why Harry wasn't in trouble and why everyone was just hanging out together before school term. The marauders Sirius, James, and Peter are anamagi and Remus. They made the map when they were in school. Probably used for no good and to know where Snape was. I want to know how the twins figured out how to turn it on and off. It is important in episode 4. But don't see that much in the movie. Underage wizardry is only partly enforced. I can't figure that out either. I'm sure that it is common occurrence. Snape wants the Dark Arts job but, he's the best potions teacher the school has ever had. Tom Riddle cursed DA to be a one year contract after he was refused the job. We learn that in a later book. While I really really like this movie I was not happy with the physical appearance of the werewolf. I like the more traditional look. There is another animagus in our next story as well. I like your Joker reference. I don't know how far along you are with reading the Harry Potter books so please don't be mad at me for saying this. I'm not going to reveal any info. I wish that the movie better explained how Remis (Lupin) knew that the parchment was a map & how he knew how to work it. Ok, enough said.

They never talk about it in the movies, so it's not a spoiler in this case: the post of Defense Against the Dark Arts was cursed by Voldemort. Some years after Voldemort graduated at Hogwarts, he went back as asked for the job. Dumbledore could already see traces of dark magic in Voldemort's body, so he said no. After that, no one managed to stay in that position for more than a year.
@VerowakReacts
@VerowakReacts 2 года назад
Yeah, but in the first movie, it's said that Snape wants that position. So I'm assuming either, Dumbledore is reluctant or doesn't want Snape in that position since it would only be a year, meaning that something may happen to Snape, or Snape is a bit worried about taking the position

@@RichyTheGamer1 or ~60 interrupted years of seasons to get to the current Doctors. Not that you really need to watch the originals (tho Tom Baker was one of the best Doctors), as some of the lore (canon) in the originals seems to have been 're-imagined' for recent Doctors. But if you start with the Christopher Eccleston Doctor (the Ninth) in 2005, you'd probably be fine - that still means quite a few years, tho
