Almost a decade after our commentary tracks for the original trilogy, we're going back to East High for (*takes a deep breath*) High School Musical: The Musical: The Series! Thank goodness Derick has never seen this show before because I can't think of anybody better to watch it with! Bring on the singing, dancing, and teen drama! WHAT TEAM?!
Plot (via Wiki):
At a fictionalized version of East High School in Salt Lake City, Utah, Miss Jenn begins work as the new drama teacher. The school holds significance as it is where the High School Musical films, a series of Disney Channel original movies were filmed. Miss Jenn was a former background cast member in the film, and the teacher decides to stage a performance of High School Musical: The Musical for her first winter theater production to celebrate the school's affiliation with the original film. The club members cast in High School Musical: The Musical learn to navigate their interpersonal relationships while overcoming the challenges of the rehearsal process.

The best part of the show is still when the one guy commented on the fact that Troy would have arrived on time to Ricky when he arrived late to the auditions, when 90% of the conflicts in the movies was due to Troy being chronically late.

@@pablolacalle6098 not that I'm as experienced as OP but the rule no. 1 that I learned was: if you screw up, no you didn't. As in, the audience isn't likely to notice something is wrong, but they will if you ACT like something is wrong. There are stories upon stories of times things went wrong on stage and the cast/crew played it off in some genius or hilarious way, and it made the show better or the audience didn't even notice. Watching these numpties just Turn Off in the middle of a performance went against Stage Instinct Number One, for me 😂😭 learning lines or choreo backstage is nothing compared to the horror of that lol (Hope that this reply isn't unwelcome, I just woke up and was still so pressed about it ssfgnmf)

I can not tell you how awkward it is to be very much not in the target demographic (unless it's really for the generation that grew up on HSM then I really am the demographic) for this series and absolutely loving it, like the characters are absolutely great! Can't wait for you lot to watch the rest! Yes I am one of them that was there day one and it was very much bit bonkers to see Olivia go from Nini to Olivia! (As well as Joshua and I was a huge fan of Girl Meets World so I knew Sabrina BEFORE that whole thing!)

I don't want to be a downer but Olivia Rodrigo's success over the years keeps reminding me how much I miss Michelle Branch, who just so happens to be ANOTHER half-Asian American pop rock chick in her late teens who ALSO released HER debut single that's ALSO about lovelorn feelings that became the biggest hit of her career, which was just 20 YEARS PRIOR!!! Not to mention, she ALSO paved the path for other pop rock teen artists to follow, including Avril a year later! And she was one of Taylor's biggest influences, even getting a blue guitar because of her. She even covered All You Wanted at Michelle's birthplace of Arizona! Man I miss her!
