Larry was a HUGE trash talker, yet he was still respected. He embarrassed so many players, but they’re all laughing about it telling their stories. I think that says a lot.

It’s that mutual respect. They understood he was just being competitive. And honestly playing against players like him make you play better as well. Even if it’s only a motivator to get better for the next time you face him. Plus trash talking and backing it up gives you massive respect even from an opponent

I grew up watching Larry play. He had those 40, 50, 60 pt nights but then he also had nights where he’d score 20-25 have 15-20 rebounds and 10-15 assists. Larry’s passing was legendary like his scoring! He would put the ball anywhere he liked whenever he wanted. If you were his intended target, the ball found you! Larry made his team better no matter the role he played in each game. Legend!

Larry Bird Bird is the only player to beat EVERY great player of his era including Michael Jordan in 7 straight playoff games. He was MVP three years straight. He played injured with injuries no other person has ever played with, including a fractured right cheek and eye socket in which he saw double. One of the best coaches in basketball was Pat Riley who stated, "If I needed a guy to take the last shot to win a game I would choose Michael Jordan. If I needed a guy to take a shot to save my life, it would be Larry Bird.

I'm glad you're asking so many questions, but be patient, because it takes a while to fathom how great Bird was, and how electrifying the NBA was back then. As a Celtics fan from back in the day, I'll just speak from that perspective. Jordan vs Bird was always epic, but there were literal knock down drag out battles against the '76ers (Charles Barkley was stunned when in one of his early NBA games, fights were breaking out between the Celts and the '76ers during an EXHIBITION game), the classic finals series against the Lakers, brutal, nail biting ECF matchups against the Bad Boy Pistons, the playoff series against the Hawks and more. If THAT'S not enough, virtually every team brought their A game when facing the Celtics, resulting in countless duels between Bird and every star in the league. The thing about Bird was, you never knew what he was going to do, because he was so versatile, so wily and determined, and had so many tricks up his sleeve. What a great time it was to be a basketball fan!

I watch a lot of these review videos, I'm fascinated by how the past (my youth) looks to today's young people. You are the first that I have seen that understood that Larry wasn't talking trash for fun, but he was beating the other players minds. Dominique Wilkins never forgot that Larry wouldn't shake his hand, it messed with his head at all times. Larry Bird made everyone stronger, I injured my ankle in the 80's, went to the doctor who said "Rest", I said "do for me what you would do for Larry Bird so I can play tomorrow. He gave me a brace & said "Good luck Larry". The next day the pain was so bad I had to leave the court, but a little voice in my head said "Larry would keep playing". I didn't miss a day. Thanks Larry.

One video you really MUST see is the now famous May 22, 1988 game seven in the playoffs classic 4th quarter shootout between Larry Bird and Dominique Wilkins of the Atlanta Hawks. Dominique was a absolute beast and played the game of his life -- at one point he was performing at such a level they referred to Dom as "The Freakazoid" because of his extreme speed jumping ability and just plain skill. Larry scored 9 points in like 2 minutes in the 4th quarter, theres much more to talk about but both teams were playing so well and the game was so heated Larry told Dominique in the last 45 seconds "You know Dom we both deserve to win but someones gotta go home" - Larry had total respect for Dominique and the two of them matched each other shot for shot through the entire 4th quarter & both players were putting out 115% and Dominique himself said it was the best 4th quarter shootout mono amano he had ever seen, he himself said Larry hit 10 clutch shots in that game. Its now regarded as the best 4th quarter shootout in NBA history to this day and a must see for any Bird or Wilkins fan or indeed any basketball fan.

I was 12 when he and Magic hit the NBA and I was just happy the games weren't pre-empted & started to watch regularly. The NBA on CBS was almost always the Celtics vs. whoever they were playing and the Lakers vs whoever they were playing for the late game. I learned fairly quickly that the East had a lot better teams overall, but the Lakers were the most talented overall. But the best player HEAD AND SHOULDERS above the rest was Larry Bird...even above Magic. Both elevated their team's play, but with Larry, in a close game at the end, you just came to EXPECT him to deliver the game-winning shot. It was almost a rule. I recall thinking, "Either Boston somehow does have the Luck of the Irish or Larry Bird makes the luck happen." I don't ever recall any game where anyone dominated him...sure, he'd have hot/cold games like the next guy but he'd contribute everywhere else, he'd adjust his game and the Celtics would almost always win. It was actually surprising when Larry took the last shot and MISSED. I'm thinking I saw it maybe 3 times including that playoff game @ L.A. but just figured he's Human after all and can't make every single shot every single time...but I will just say he did the next best thing and did it waaaay more often than one guy should be able to. There will always be a mystique to him in my head my entire life about him. That's the impact he had on a given game, and I got the sense his opposition knew he was the best player on the court even among their own teammates. As for my fave trash-talking story, it has to be the one where he just cooked Craig Ehlo and asked him if his Mother was watchin' 😂😂😂😂

I grew up in MA in the 80s. Bird was my first hero. I love that RU-vid has everyone seeing what I remember as a kid. I can only imagine how great Larry would be today with modern training and medicine. Some stories to look into: 1. Jamal Mashburn talking about practicing vs the 1992 Dream Team and what Bird did to Rodney Rogers. 2. Bird vs Kent Benson: One of the reasons Bird left Indiana U is because of the way Benson treated him. In the league, Bird made it his mission to humiliate Benson whenever they played. Look into the story behind McHale's 56 point game, which was soon followed by Bird's 60 point game. 3. Craig Ehlo telling his "is your mother watching?" story and finally 4. Bird's buzzer beater vs Phoenix. There are many videos of McHale telling the story. The game footage confirms that McHale wasn't making anything up.

My favorite Larry Legend trash talk story goes back to '85. It was a game against the Utah Jazz. Larry, before finishing the third quarter had already got a triple-double. A teammate comes up and says "You know you're only 1 steal away right?" That one extra steal would have made him the 2nd recorder player in NBA history to achieve a quadruple-double. Larry, knowing that the team was up 30+ points in the fourth, sat out. After the game he was interviewed and asked "Larry, why didn't you play the 4th quarter?" To which he responded with "I figure I had already done enough damage" Never has a man shown up with an Auntie Haircut, done so much psychological damage.

I'll never get tired of Larry Legend stories 😂. That rebound 6:53 is crazy! He took off for the corner immediately after the shot like not only did he know the shot was off but he knew where'd the rebound would go

When Magic was diagnosed I believe Larry was one of the first to contact him offering support. They became true friend's.

Magic & Larry, resurrected the game of basketball...My dad loved basketball, but stopped watching, until the competition between Johnson & Bird was highlighted...What my Dad used to say, about Larry's game, is that it reminded him of someone, who wasn't only playing basketball, but also, volleyball, dodgeball, football, soccer, & strategic chess, all at the same time, & what made him so great 😊He certainly was one of the most unique & gifted players, I ever watched!

Other great trash talking videos are why NBA legends were terrified by Larry Bird and Larry Bird welcoming rookies to the NBA. You'll see what he did to Kemp and the Glove. Also the Bird is the word highlights shows more of his all around game.

52 years old here. '79 to '85 were the most magical of years for the NBA. Still had greats being great, Moses Malone. Kareem, Dr. J etc. and new stars, Magic, Bird, Wilkins and the like. It was just an amazing time.

Hey Rich R.I.P to the biggest Celtic's Fan my daddy. We used to watch every time they played he loved the way Larry trash talked people and that's why I'm still a Celtic's fan. Love that everyone is reacting to Larry Bird's bids but I really love the Larry Bird and Magic Johnson story they were really good friends and rivals and if I'm not mistaken on the court Larry would shake no ones hand but Magic so love the reaction❤❤❤ ## Boston Rocks

I remember reading about Byrd🔥staying after practice and shooting 100 free throws and practicing jump shots and 3 pointers for hours after practice. That was the most impressive thing I remember about him. He wanted to be the best so he put in the work! I believe he was the greatest small forward ever.💯🤗❤️✌️

I was a NBA fan from 1976-1992 I worked at the memorial coliseum where The Trailblazers played. We always got to watch the last 10 minutes of the game and I loved watching Larry Bird play more than any other player. His style was so fun to watch..nowadays basketball isn’t even interesting to me the way they changed the rules.

My memories are that we old guys, saw all those games back in the 80's and it was the best Basketball time ever. I don't think I'm alone on this. but I cannot think of Larry without instantly thinking of Magic. Those two saved the NBA. Their stories are legend as is their competition, and most wonderful was their eventual friendship which is golden icing on the cake... the game today is lackluster compared to those times...

Thanks I appreciate you! Basketball has always been my favorite sport and I appreciate any good ballers no matter what team the play for. I'm a lifetime Celtics, fan third generation, Larry is my favorite although there are so many others from the Celtics. There has been a lot of great NBA players over the years but Larry is king!

Bird is an obvious example of confidence overcoming ALL! Not athletic(28.5" vertical),not extremely strong, but gifted with ATTITUDE & WORK ETHIC! Plus,he had a MACHINE of a jump shot! He would shoot 30 footers almost the same as free throws;VERY STRONG HANDS,WITH AN ABILITY TO REPEAT THE SAME MOTION OVER & OVER & OVER! Bird was "fast in a phone booth",had those great hands,& mentally he was maybe the most talented athlete(ANY SPORT)ever! Self-Confidence comes from a place of COURAGE!

I'm born and raised in Indiana. Indianapolis, to be exact. Born in '86, my Pops was a huge Pacers fan, but an even bigger Michael Jordan fan. He introduced me to the game and encouraged me to pay attention to the greats. Bird has always been a legend in Indiana, but as I got older, I got to see how much the whole basketball world held him in the highest regard. He eventually came to coach the Pacers and added to his legacy as one of the best coaches and executives over the next decade. They call him "Larry Legend" for a reason. And you don't have to be a Hoosier to know. Salute to "The Hick from French Lick." And salute to you @Richhouse for more dope content...#RHR 🫡💯

Started watching the NBA in 1968. Watched every Celtics game I could through the 80s. Bird was my favorite then, still is. Magics second. I stopped watching in 2017. I loved the post game, especially the low post. It did get too rough, but I just really liked the physical play. When youre.lucky enough to get old, all things change.
