Indeed! An easy analogy is that the Elves are kinda like angels or semi-angelic beings, with the Orcs (being originally Elves corrupted by the Old Enemy, who was Sauron's master) being pretty much exactly Biblical demons (Lucifer being the Fallen Angel). So Elvish stuff is basically enchanted, holy items, hence its impressive properties, especially against evil foes. It's also why Gollum was yelling about how it "burned" him and why he was so afraid of being left tied-up with it; he knew his evil nature would ensure it never let him escape (how Smeagol would react to the rope is an interesting question. BTW, some have said Gollum's tendency to drama seems to make him something of a haughty cat to Sam's dog, and it's hard not to see once you know). Oh, and just as a fun bit of lore, Natasha; the reason Gollum (important to remember he's still Gollum here, and not yet just Smeagol) and not Sam saved Frodo in the swamp (though it could easily just have been Gollum getting-there first, as you reasonably conjectured) is that Sam can't swim, as we saw. He was willing to try to paddle-after Frodo when Frodo was in a boat, but he likely knew that trying to save Frodo in the water would probably only improve the odds of them both drowning, as Frodo would definitely try to save Sam if he could. It also makes Gollum's character rather ambiguous; did he rescue Frodo out of loyalty to his word and compassion, or did he just assume that, if Frodo drowned and Gollum was left with Sam, Sam would almost certainly kill him before Gollum had the chance to do it first? If it was just Gollum and Frodo, would he have let Frodo drown in order to then try and retrieve the Ring from the spirits? Hard to say, which was, I think, the intention.

At 12:40 you say, "I don't think I've ever heard any of them speak..." Tolkien says that each group of Orcs had their own languages that were mutually unintelligible, so when different tribes needed to communicate, they used a debased form of the Common Tongue that is here translated as Modern English. There are three different tribes carrying Merry and Pippin, all with different motives. Peter Jackson & Co. don't explore this, but it is important in the book's version of events. The large ones ("Give him some medicine, boys!") are Saruman's Uruk-hai, taking the Hobbits to Isengard. The medium-sized ones ("Our master grows impatient!") are Sauron's Orcs, trying to take the Hobbits to Mordor. And the little ones ("Why can't we have some meat?") are from the Mines of Moria, seeking to avenge their folk. The folks at Weta Workshop have provided three different Orc designs of Orcs--didn't miss a beat.

So so so much love for this movie. Many of the "extended" scenes were extremely tiny ones, just a line or two of dialog that add sooo sooo much depth to a character. One of the minor ones that I love is Faramir's introduction in the normal movie is just finding them and saying "bind their hands," but his monologue about wondering who the enemy soldier was, if he'd rather have just stayed him in peace, "War will make corpses of us all" did slight justice to the fact that Faramir had a broader, open viewpoint, and made him seem more likeable, which did more justice to his character. I know that they shifted Faramir's actions in the movie far away from what he did in the book... but I think it made for an interesting (but different) story.

Probably spoiler material here if Nat hasn't watched Return of the King yet. . . . . . One of the reasons Denethor dislikes Faramir, in the books, is because Faramir respects Gandalf as a teacher. Denethor distrusts Gandalf and sees him as attempting to remove the steward from power. Part of this distrust is likely also due to the actions of Aragorn years before when Denethor's father was the ruling steward. Tldr; when Denethor's father Ecthelion II was the Steward of Gondor, Aragorn (going by the name of Thorongil) came to Minas Tirith on one of his journeys and achieved many great accomplishments, so much so that Ecthelion came to love and trust Thorongil the most. At the same time, Denethor also found himself placing second to Thorongil in the hearts of the men of Gondor. Both factors lead to Denethor resenting Thorongil for decades. Of the many things Thorongil advised Ecthelion about, he advised the steward not to trust Saruman, but rather Gandalf the Grey.

Iirc, even Tolkien himself admitted hints that Faramir's characterization is a cheeky self-insert... Obviously not the film portrayal, but given the stuff left out from the books.

Both Boromir and Faramir were beautiful people, but whereas Boromir stood for his people and lifted them, Faramir always seemed the more philosophical one who had empathy for those that weren't his own and was willing to risk his people on his own behalf to save those he believed didn't deserve what others may think, but it often clashed with his duty to Gondor, his father and his people hence it feels why he seemed so distant and cynical in the way he carries them out. Which shows well in that cut introduction how deep down he truly despise fighting and feels sorrow even for his enemies knowing they could be like him (disliking war and killing), but that duty calls for him to take a side and that it's expected of him to side with his people (and father) no matter his own thoughts, which ofcourse we later see him break with Frodo and do what he feels best.

Although in the book there are plot reasons why Theoden didn't kill Wormtongue, I think there's another reason. Tolkien was an expert on the Middle Ages. A medieval fief runs on trust, the lord must be seen to keep faith with his men. Wormtongue had been a loyal servant to Theoden for many years. Although he was Saruman's spy, there was no evidence of crime he could be accused of besides giving Theoden bad advice. If Theoden had killed him in hot blood, without any proof of wrongdoing, he could lose the loyalty of his other men. They could fear Theoden might treat them the same way.

Theoden does offer Grima a chance to redeem himself in the book - either to ride into battle or to be in exile. Aragorn never says or does anything about it because, well, he's not the king of Rohan. I suspected the reason it's Aragorn who urges Theoden to spare Grima in the film is to display Aragorn's nobility. However, the way it's done just feels off to me.

@@alextu_MusicYeah, the way Theoden acts in the book seems more like the way a real medieval king would act. He shows his men that loyalty is rewarded, and a long-serving counselor is not just summarily destroyed for having a disagreement with the King. Remember only a few of his household, like Eomer and Eowyn, may have been close enough to see that Theoden was possessed, and know how Wormtongue has been betraying Rohan into Saruman's hands. To the others it may look like Theoden was senile, and is just blaming Wormtongue for bad decisions he has made.

Regarding the Entwives: The Ents and Entwives all loved plants, but the Ents loved wild forests, while the Entwives preferred cultivating them. They lived apart - the Ents in their forests, the Entwives in their farms and gardens. They would visit one another whenever they felt the desire, and never stopped considering themselves the same people. But during the War of the Last Alliance, Sauron scorched the earth where the Entwives lived. After the war, some Ents went to visit, and found a barren wasteland. They searched long and far, but never found what happened to the Entwives.

I know there were several hints in the books that there may be Ents/Entwives in the Old forest; Sam's cousin said he saw what looked like an Elm tree walking, & a few characters mention the similarities between Fangorn & the Old Forest. The Old Forest seems to be comprised of Huorn type trees. Is there any references in Tolkien's other work that would refer to the Entwives being in the Old Forest? Its nice to be able to imagine that the Entwives live close to the Shire, but wasn't sure if there was proof.. ❤️❤️❤️❤️ Tolkien writes in two of his letters that he does not believe the Ent Wives survived a ‘scorched earth' policy in the war against Sauron that ended the Second Age. There is a conversation between Sam & Ted Sandyman in the Green Dragon Inn in Chapter 2 of FOTR that discusses sightings of moving trees in the northern part of the Shire. Some have concluded this means Tolkien intended for Ent Wives to survive & be in the Shire. But there's not enough evidence to draw any conclusion. The fact is this part of LOT was written when it was still meant to be a children's book, a sequal to The Hobbit. Tolkien had also written that part before he developed Ents. I suggest reading the entry in its entirety, it should cover everything pretty well. Sam's cousin said he saw what looked like an Elm tree walking This is the best evidence. And Fangorn (Treebeard) is super interested when Merry and Pippin describe The Shire. He asks them if they've seen Entwives there (saying that they would like such a country), and when they depart he begs them to send news should they see any. In a nutshell, it seems likely that there may be Entwives in the forests of The Shire. I certainly like to think so, though there's no further mention of them According to Sam, Hal saw a "Tree-man" "bigger than a tree"; he also says that he was "as big as an elm tree, and walking - walking seven yards to a stride, if it was an inch." An adult elm tree can grow well beyond 100 feet in size. For comparison, Treebeard is describes as being "at least fourteen foot high". The length of his stride isn't given, but l've seen speculations between four and eight feet. Granted, other Ents could be bigger than him, and we don't know whether the Ent-wives were bigger than the male Ents; but unless they were almost ten times as big as their male counterparts, I don't think what Hal saw is likely to have been an Ent. To an uneducated, working class hobbit who is probably likely to exaggerate in pub story time, its possible that may have taken an Ent for a huge tree. much more possible than believing he lied, especially considering the hobbit didn't even know any such creature as a walking tree existed. Sure, but if we concede that the details are unreliable, then all we're left with is the second-hand, probably exaggerated story of a hobbit known for "always saying he's seen things". And if Hal's fantasy was lively enough to turn a Treebeard-sized Ent into a towering, 100-foot giant, it might as well have turned a tree and some shifting shadows into one. I'm not saying it's impossible, don't get me wrong. just think that the source of the rumor, combined with the fact that the details don't even fit very well, makes it rather unlikely to me. The evidence is sparse at best. 1 guess I just have irrational hope that the Entwives exist somewhere & in canon, that's the only likely place. Also, and this is super oblique... Samwise carries Galadriel's box of seeds back to The Shire. Remember, she read many hearts, and who knows what seeds and nuts may have been in that box. I’m by far not the only one who hopes beyond hope that the Entwives may still live somewhere. The Ents' story is quite a sad one if they don't. I personally take heart in Treebeard's words, and the Elvish song he recites. He says: We believe that we may meet again in a time to come, and perhaps we shall find somewhere a land where we can live together and both be content. But it is foreboded that that will only be when we have both lost all that we now have. And the Elves made a song of it that ends with the lines: Together we will take the road that leads into the West, And far away will find a land where both our hearts may rest. Maybe, just maybe, by whatever "road beneath the bitter rain" some Ents and Entwives found their way into the West. just don't think it very likely that Hal saw one in the North Moors. Also, and I hope you don't mind me mentioning it, but there was only one seed (& some earth) in Sam's box suddenly became the salt box in the movie) & that grew into a Mallorn tree. It replaced the party tree I believe. The Ents also are not trees, and I doubt they would have grown from seeds. Old Man Willow I think was a hourn, a really old tree that grows "entish" with age. The ents used to herd the horns like livestock, but without an ent to care for it in the old forest, It became violent and restless. (That last bit about the reason for its violence is a bit of my own head canon) ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ There's always the fun thought that Yavanna called them to Valinor to avoid their imminent fates when men/sauron took over, and the males were left behind to fight. I mean, Thave O evidence, but as far as head canon goes it makes me feel better than "they all died" I would like to think the Entwives survived but I believe they went to what in the third age was called the brown lands and built their gardens there. I think that the Hurons in The Old Forest (very close to the shire) somehow survived from the first age when the whole of eastern middle watch was covered in forests and as man settled and cut them down and Beleriand sunk they got separate and somehow survived. As long as there's no proof of them being extinct, I like to think they did :) A lot of things were meant for us to do our own work and be scholars just like him. Certain things were left open ended but in his very clever way. Also don’t forget the oath she swore to help Fangorn find Fimbrethil when Beleriand arises from the sea once more. She’d return and help him find her. And she meant it. And she had the largest and clearest foresight out of all the elves. ❤️
@alextu_Music
@alextu_Music 6 месяцев назад
@@Makkaru112 Indeed. I think it's cool that Tolkien never explicitly states whether the Entwives still live or not - only that the Ents never saw them again after Sauron scorched their gardens east of the Anduin, and mentions of possible sightings from Hobbits, etc. That mystery allows us to decide what we would like to have happened.

The story of the Dúnedain - which means "Men of the West" - is a very long and complicated one. It stretches way, way back into the history of the world. But the (very) short version is that the ancestors of the Dúnedain fought against Sauron's boss and, after his defeat, the future Dúnedain were rewarded for their sacrifices with very long (but still mortal) lives and an island kingdom called Númenor in the far west of the world. Eventually, Númenor went the way of Atlantis, and the survivors founded the kingdoms of Gondor (where Boromir's from) and Arnor (where Aragorn's from). Arnor eventually collapsed for various reasons, but its royal line survived, down through the centuries to Aragorn. By the time of this story, the Dúnedain in Gondor had largely intermingled with other groups of Men, and much of their heritage was lost.

Galadriel is the one who pleaded the WindLord Gwaihir, one of the eagle formed Maiar), to go to the top of Durin’s Tower at Zirakzigil. He was recouperated by her own hand and skills. Bringing back a god of sorts is quite a feat which fits her prowess in several fields as she was known to have learned from all of the Valar, all that there was left to teach by each of them. The staff was given to him by Galadriel in Lothlórien and enhanced his powers upon his return. His old brown staff was a gift from Radagast (another wizard of the Istari Order after he escaped from Saruman’s current abode in Orthanc, hand carved from an old branch. The white staff was a gift from Galadriel, made by elven smiths from Mallorn wood. (Mallanornë by the elves. Interestingly looks similar to the elvish word for Friend, Mellon. But that’s just me being inquisitive.) That new staff before he sacrificed it to do a spell of sorts against the Balrog in Khazad-Dûm. That one was called Opening Flower. (His portrayal in The Hobbit movies are a little bit funny but it slightly sort of suits the aspect of that book which was more whimsical so I guess they wanted to make him act much different. Granted Radagast sort of strayed from the path but his main mission was to guard and protect nature itself on behalf of Yavannah. The Valar that chose him as her champion to head into middle earth with the other 4 istari. The white staff was most likely named something along the lines of Marta Nieninquë (Fated WhiteTearSnowflower), or Ninquelotë which is “White/snow Flower”. Or Ninquë Merillë “White Rose”. (Derivatives of Merillë is also Feast and Festive, think of his fireworks for example. Single rose is Meril or like single flower is Elloth. Another Elvish flower term is “ninglor” noun for golden water-flower, gladden. But since Mithrandir is his name by the elves for grey wanderer I wanted to add Mithril to the name of his new staff as it contains similarity to his elvish name so “Mithrillottë” meaning “Flower Of TrueSilver” Or maybe due to the snowy mountain he died upon, the new staff name could be “Olórin olea Ollosë” meaning “The Dream/Vision that bloomed and flourishes upon the Fallen Snow” by how it’s implied. Olórin is Gandalf’s real angelic name so it is basically describing how the dream of hope that rekindled itself in the harshest of conditions. Like a resilient type of flower, Ollosë is the fallen snow. Olea is the action of plants specifically growing & living. Another elvish flower name I love is for Daisy “Eirien”. Lothlórien itself means “DreamFlower”. Galadriel’s realm. ❤️ - (Elvish had grown ALOT over the ages. Even some forms of elvish are even more archaic even for other elves who at times may experience a little bit of difficulty understanding or simply noting one’s accent and speed of which one talks internally.

What's wild to me is when I watch other reactioners get mad for a second when he comes back, because they cried for him and he "didn't even DIE, y'all!" But the thing is, like others have said in your comments, he DID die. Gandalf the Grey, Greybeard, Stormcrow, Greyhame - the form in which he had existed for millennia and was well-known by virtually everyone in the world, really does die forever when he falls into that chasm after defeating the Balrog. So it's actually still totally okay to cry for that IMO.

Èowyn’s FULL SONG in Rohirric Eotheod language + English translation below/ Èowyn sings at Thèodred’s “funeral”•Now dear Théodred lies in darkness, most loyal of fighters. The sound of the harp shall not wake the warrior; nor shall the man hold a golden wine-cup, nor good hawk swing through the hall, nor the swift horse stamp in the courtyard. An evil death has set forth the noble warrior A song shall sing the sorrowing minstrels of Meduseld That noble cousin, who always held me dear Now is held in darkness, enclosed. (Now in in the language of the Èitheod)❤ Nú on théostrum licgeth Théodred se léofa hæ´letha holdost. ne sceal hearpan sweg wigend weccean; ne winfæ´t gylden guma sceal healdan, ne god hafoc geond sæ´l swingan, ne se swifta mearh burhstede beatan. Bealocwealm hafað fréone frecan forth onsended giedd sculon singan gléomenn sorgiende on Meduselde thæt he ma no wære his dryhtne dyrest and maga deorost. She sings this part in the movie: Bealocwealm hafað fréone frecan forth onsended giedd sculon singan gléomenn sorgiende on Meduselde thæt he ma no wære his dryhtne dyrest and maga deorost. Éowyn is only heard singing the last four lines of the song, ending with the word Bealo, which in Old English meant "evil" or "harm". The first of those lines ("Bealocwealm hafað...") originates from the epic poem Beowulf, line 2265.)

20:46 is where Eomer is thinking like, "Sh!t, I just killed their kids."💀 idk if you notice in that same scene that after Eomer gets on his horse, you can see his sword fall out of his hip. It's funny because the sword's right next to Aragorn when it happens 😂

Andy Serkis, who was both the voice actor and motion actor for Gollum, put a terrible strain on his throat doing Gollum's voice. The crew concocted a drink containing honey, lemon juice and several other ingredients for him to soothe his throat, nicknamed "Gollum Juice". They designed Gollum's face based off of Andy's and Andy said that Gollum looked like a bizarre combination of his dad and his new baby!

I love these films so much I must have watched at least a dozen different reactions on RU-vid over the years, of varying quality. It is without hyperbole, therefore, that I can state categorically that even given that we are barely halfway through your reaction videos they are already sitting at the very top of my list of favourites. Your obvious and genuine love of the films and the way you clearly care so much for all the characters just shines forth - your delightfully emotional reaction to Gandalf's return (both the anticipation of it and your joy when it actually happened) being a particular highlight. I also have to state that the balance of your comments are a delight to listen to - not the continual stream of self important drivel that we get from some reactors that often overpowers the dialogue, but just frequent enough to keep your viewers invested in your commentary, as well as being insightful and with an underlying sense of wit and humour. Seriously, these are the best set of reactions I have had the pleasure to view, long may they continue - thank you, you are a real gem 🥰

Gandalf diving after the Balrog clearly is the most epic thing ever put on a screen. If it was done by Peter Jackson, I'd watch a 9 hour movie of just those two fighting their way out of the lake and up the stairs to the mountain peak, and I'd buy the 12 hour director's cut, too.

They gave Gandalf the voice of Saruman for the first few lines of his return. He didn’t have “Gandalf’s voice” and they couldn’t see him. Obviously they were not expecting the person they watched fall in Moria to be back as “the white wizard” …

Gandalf (Olórin) is the same species of being as the Balrogs/Sauron before twisted by Melkor[Morgoth]. They are all Maiar (primordial spirits) created by Eru’s Thought (extensions of Eru Îlluvatar himself whilst they had their own free will & individuality. He essentially got the chance to experience and study other parts of himself through this.) among the other Ainur before the Years of the Lamps roughly 9,000+ years before arriving in Middle-earth; In Valinor he was known as Olórin.(Remember though he formally existed before the world existed and his form becoming Gandalf hadn’t happened yet. He was sent to Middle-earth in human form around the year 1000 of the Third Age. ❤️❤️❤️❤️ So his many forms had different ages in length of existing. He’s very cool right! Could he get any cooler!? 😎❤️ Another thing is when he arrived in middle earth he was disguised as an elf & lived among them whilst they were unknowing & he became to be known as Mithrandir to the Quendi/Eldar❤️ He could have very well dwelled with the elves far earlier just do to his curiosity & simple desire to explore and be around the firstborn (TheElves) Gandalf The Grey/White Estimated at 15,000 years old (following his quote "300 lives of men, I have walked this earth"), It says that Gandalf was the wisest of the Maiar besides Melian herself. There were a lot of Maiar that were considered really great and powerful. 300 lives of men, according to Tolkien, the average life span of a man is 70 years. So, 300 x 70 is 21000 years. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ However, there is a much longer answer. Like Sauron(former name is Mairon) & the other Istari (the order sent around the same time & of which he was appointed leader but he being who he is & a student of the Vala by the name Nienna & Lorien(Irmo). Gandalf was one of the Maiar, an angelic spirit created by Eru at the beginning of time and therefor one of the many Ainur who sang the world into being & Eru just helped their creation take shape and basically stated “behold YOUR creation” & basically what happens in that world goes sort of preordained as by that song eons ago so really only the ages after Dagor Dagorath will truly be an age that isn’t full of strife; sadness; and longing. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ Also. These lamps are what were before even the two trees. These were Giant mountains but also like light houses but housing a great power but it may have also been where two special Maia lived that helped in the creation in the sun and moon after Melkor With eldrich terror Ungoliant killed the trees, so yea “Arien” is the Maia who basically exists with the sun and her brother and or lover of sorts is the one who wanders with and guides the moon. Of which that other Maia was “Tillion” Galadriel herself not only witnessed this but as a student of Aulë and the other Valar she obviously had involvement in helping create the hallowed objects that housed the final flower of the silver tree Telperion that was the father of the moon and the mother of the sun was Laurëlin the golden tree and prior to the sun and moon they too used to wax and wane!

50:15 These are the Haradrim who have lived in close proximity to Mordor for ages. initally they had sort of a trade relationship with Numenor (basically pre-Gondor) but when the Numenoreans started to treat them as low life vassals, demanding constant tributes and treating them like shit, Sauron won them over quite easily. That cycle of war and subjugation and rebellion has followed them ever since, only the opponent changed from Numenor to Gondor. Sauron has basically been their ally for thousands of years.

Well, there is also the point that each of the Nazgul is an actual king, that has never technically died. Nine nations with a couple of thousand years of aggressive expansion has gathered a vast amount of soldiers. This is why The Enemy calls himself the King of The World. The northwestern part of Middle Earth, where this takes place, is pretty much the last bit he needs to gobble up, to make the title true.

Part 1 of Treebeard(Fangorn) - In the Silmarillion, at the end of the chapter "Of Aule and Yavanna", Manwë states, "But in the forests shall walk the Shepherds of the Trees." This is before the chapter, 'Of the Coming of the Elves'. So, since Treebeard is one of the first three, he is beyond cool. And he is around before the elves arrive in Valinor. However, do not be deceived! The elves taught the Ents speech, even though they were around before. It is often mistaken that ents are trees or were once trees, when they are in fact are a sort of 4th children of Îlluvatar (AllFather) a creation of the Vala named Yavannah Treebeard refers to the elves "started it, teaching the trees to talk" or some such thing. He also refers to the elves curing the ent's "dumbness". People assume the two events are one and the same, when they are not. Obviously, Tolkien meant to be vague and allow the reader to decide what they looked like and just how ent-like huorns could become and how tree-like ents could become. But it is clear they are in the long lists of animals alongside men and harts and bears, etc., not plants. - - Gandalf tells Thèoden that when he meets Treebeard he will be meeting the oldest thing that ever walked. Which is another indication that the ents were around, shepherding the trees, before the elves got to Middle-earth. Tolkien meant to be vague. After all, Celeborn and Galadriel hail Treebeard as "Eldest" when they meet him in LOTR. However, when Treebeard is reciting the poem of the different being, he calls the elves the "eldest of all".

Aragorn spared Grima for pragmatic, political & moral reasons. Morally: Killing someone is bad. Even when perceived as justified Tolkien didn't feel that taking a life was ever the honourable thing to do. Pragmatically: Grima might have knowledge about Saruman's plans. Maybe even some of Sauron's plans. Information that they could have extracted from him if he'd accepted the king's 'mercy'. Politically: You've not seen your king in months. Rumour has it he's gone mad and that Grima is the one running the kingdom now. Next time you see your king he's flinging Grima down the stairs unarmed, about to swing a sword through his head. Grima was even begging for mercy. That's not a good look for Theoden's first act as the King again after being silent for so long.

According to Tolkien, Elves could even dream while moving about, "blending living night & deep dream." When Aragorn, Gimli & Legolas are running across the Plains of Rohan pursuing the orcs who captured Merry and Pippin, Legolas never sleeps, even stands watch while his wiped out Dwarf & Human companions are literally tuckered out and even while the other two are asleep. That & out of the entire journey Legolas was both Stoic & ethereal but the one whose heart remained the lightest and kept the fellowship afloat in so many ways ❤. So it was weird how the film gave it all to Gimli! 😂❤️ They have a debate after finding the brooch dropped by Pippin..... continue running through the night (& possibly miss other important signs in the dark), or rest overnight (and let the Uruks get further away from them). In the end, they choose to rest. This also applies to what I explained in earlier comments regarding how Legolas was able to walk ontop of the snow!

The story of the entwives is a lot sadder than the scene here implied. The entwives preferred more open spaces and were more active than the ents; so they travelled to build their own glades to care for. It's implied they always planned to reunite with the ents at some point, but Sauron and his forces found and burned their glade down before that ever happened. The entwives never returned to the Fangorn Forest where the ents lived, and the ents never learned what happened to them.

Gollum/smeagol is - or was - a Stoor. Stoors were hobbits who lived along riverbanks, unlike the other two types of hobbits, who lived under hills and in forests. The major difference between Stoors and the other two types of hobbits is that Stoors have bigger feet and hands - which they use for paddling boats (they also dont have hairy feet, like the Harfoot hobbits). Plus all hobbits have the ability to go unseen by others. Thats partly how gollum survived - he lived on a rock island in an underground lake in a cave, so he paddled a boat silently around it, and was safe from the goblins and orcs in the cave tunnels. And his large hands were good for strangling orcs in the dark of those caves. So gollum was already well suited to sneaking around in caves with lakes and strangling goblins and orcs to eat. He only put on the ring to find food when he was really desperately hungry and had to go deep into goblin areas of the caves he inhabited. When the 3 types of hobbits migrated north they became intermixed and the different types of hobbit ceased to exist. But that happened after smeagol got the ring, so smeagol is the last of the Stoors. Thats why Frodo says ‘you were not so very different to a hobbit’. Smeagol/gollum is a hobbit but a hobbit different to every other living hobbit. Smeagol forgot his name hundreds of years ago. Without his real name he’s called gollum because of the nasty involuntary throat noise he makes, which can be heard even if he cant be seen. Orcs are as intelligent as people and are even a bit ingenious: ‘orcs made many clever and useful things, but no beautiful things’. They are an industrialised people, except they are also aggressive, argumentative, hate filled, and have just about every bad trait you can think of, which is not a recipe for long term success. Ps those arent dragons. Theyre fell beasts. If you want to see a dragon you’ll have to watch The Hobbit. But dragons are infinitely more dangerous and more nasty. Plus a LOT bigger.

The connection between the Ents & Germanic&Irish folklore lies in their origins. J.R.R. Tolkien was a scholar of several languages & cultures+Folklore. He drew inspiration from various mythological & folkloric traditions to create the extension of our own world of Middle-earth which was not to be differentiated from our own world. It was to be a distant past of our own. Connecting many of our own worlds truest origins that all tie together. The Ent are believed to be the 'tree spirit,' which was a common theme in Germanic folklore. In many Germanic cultures, trees were believed to be inhabited by spirits or gods, were revered as sacred. The Ents, as tree-like beings, embody this idea of the spirit of the trees. Furthermore, the name 'Ent' itself comes from the Old English word 'ent,' which means 'giant.' This is likely a nod to the Germanic mythological figure of the Jötun, or giants, who were often associated with the forests and natural world. Overall, the Ents are a representation of Tolkien's fascination with Germanic + Druidic folklore + mythology, and serves as a tribute to the rich cultural heritage of these ancient traditions. Think of the ways of the Druid & Druidess, I know a few from long lineages and others that have been initiated. (The term initiation is different in this context. As many things in our lives are initiations and graduations. Rights of passage etc.) many in a sense become like trees and even become one with trees etc; many being medicine men/women, shamanic skills honed over years and years of study and experience, being Healers and councillors is the life of a shaman, to protect nature and to help others learn how to give back to nature too.

Let me share about Elrond & his daughter Arwen (& Aragorn by extension) therefore we must look at Elrond’s Twin Brother Elros, they both were half-elven brothers who can choose to be mortal or immortal because of their parents(Eärendil and Elwing) both half elven made a great sacrifice and went to Valinor to ask for help against Morgoth(who was making everything worse than a living hellscape for 100s of generations) which lead to the greatest events in the early first and second age. Instead of being punished, the valar listened to them, that led to a great hosts of Valar and Maiar And Vanyar Elves went to Middle Earth that laid waste to Beleriand. After the War Of Wrath, the valar rewarded them for their sacrifices. They can choose to be elf or men, including their children. They chose immortally, but never return to Middle Earth because they thought that their twin sons had died. But they didnt die. Elrond chose to be immortal while his twin brother Elros chose to be mortal. He founded the Kingdom of Numenor. He lived in Numenor Island and blessed with a long life that include his descendants Those men who fought for the war were rewarded a long life but not their families or children. Only the family of Elrond can choose to be immortal or mortal in which Arwen did. Aragorn is the direct descendant of Elros, thats why he has a long life. The average lifespan of a Numenorean at their height was 500 years maximum! Now remember too that half elves are a common thing and whenever they did come together it was always significant !❤❤❤ Remember this is the SHORT version, there are so many moving parts that will make you want to dive into the books or the audio books or even do reaction videos to the famous lore videos by the biggest lore channels out there! When you’re done the trilogy try doing reaction videos just like Moviejoob did now with the lore recently as well as OmarioRPG. I recommend videos by GirlNextGondor and The Red Book, and Tolkien Untangled and especially Men Of The West. Many other cool ones I’ll recommend in the comments section of those reaction videos you do from Tolkiens Legendarium lore videos. They are super engaging. You’ll be in love. Nothing would have existed if Tolkiens works never hit the light of day as they were meant to stay private and sometimes be shared with his children and so on. No Game Of Thrones. No Skyrim. No ElderScrolls, No World Of Warcraft, no Dungeons&Dragons. None of it. Not even Star Wars. Not even Harry Potter! They took inspiration from his works which were souly to give back a forgotten history of the Anglo Saxons that had their culture & history destroyed as the larger empires were riding around them. His works reflect the Elder Edda(Norse) The Kalevala(Finnish) and the Welsh people from Wales as well as Irelands cultures of the Tuatha De Danaan as well! His languages are fully fleshed out too resembling Finnish & Welsh • By the way Elrond is around 6870-8000 years old & nearly a full Elf year (as they age very very differently to Men) is close to 144 man years(solar years for them). but if you want a more true age you must realize that he may be 8000 but in human years after the sun and moon were created from the flower from of the two trees of Valinor as well as one fruit from the other of the two trees; they experience the TIME and the way men experience it but their clock is different! They live as long as the world/Arda/Ëa does. Essentially. Which is why they are so in synch with the world around them and the nature responds to them ! Think of when Legolas walked ontop of all that snow on the Mountain of Caradhras!! They continue to endure as long ad the world itself does. (Arda) and speaking of age, Legolas is also 3000+years old by the time he becomes a member of The Fellowship Of The Ring! If you look back on the original trilogy movies: The fellowship had a 3000year old Elven PRINCE in their party. And a clandestine angelic being who was Gandalf originally known Olòrin to those such as Galadriel who knew him when she lived in Valinor, Elrond also knew would be one of the only others who’d know this save Círdan The Shipwright(Oldest Elf in the world but even he was a few generations down from the original elvish peoples to awake to the stars) & kin to Thingol who also is a semi distant cousin to Legolas as Legolas’ grandfather was the close cousin to Thingol(same with Galadriel’s Husband Celeborn through his father, their capital within Lothlòrien was named after his father(Caras Galadhon) Galadhon being the name indicating that which belongs to the father. And a 87 year old Númenorean man named Aragorn!, a 335 year old Dwarven Prince named Gimli. And as a microcosm they resembled the coalition of all the races of middle earth uniting under one banner which is another reason it sort of metaphysically set into motion the world uniting at the macrocosm ! Galadriel's Phial (gift to Frodo) is something really special. light & dark have a spiritual dimension in Tolkien. way back before the First Age Valinor was lit by two very special Trees that waxed & waned in opposition to each other. a master craftsman Elf named Fëanor fashioned three gems that captured their light, the Silmarils. (And it’s same power and light was drawn into it from the very firmament where it now stands amongst the stars as Eärendil himself (Elrond’s father stands watch over The Doors Of Night where Melkor still is held until fate holds him no longer.) Everyone who saw them was captivated by them, even the Melkor(Morgoth); the first Dark Lord. Wars were fought over them called the Kinstrife after Morgoth had the Trees destroyed the Silmarils were the only light from them left and he stole them as you may remember, they changed hands a few times & eventually one was left after one fell into the sea & another was lost in a pit of magma. A Half Elf named Eärendil (the first one! Who was Elrond’s father.) came into its possession & sailed it to Valinor as a gift to the Valar to ask for their help in defeating Morgoth, which they did. the Valar turned it into a star & hung it in the sky with Eärendil as its guardian. the fountain of Galadriel's Mirror is lit by light captured from the star Eärendil & her Phial has water from the fount. I've left out about 90% of the story but it's quite important & central to the story of Middle Earth. for her to give the Phial to Frodo is quite extraordinary. its light does burn & blind Shelob (that's the spider's name) but doesn't kill her outright. oh also, before he was put in the sky to guard the last Silmaril Earendil had two children, Elrond & his brother Elros the first King of Numenor. Tolkien's lore is deep & vast & the Silmarils are at the center of it. The Star of Eärendil is the light that shines in the horizon both in the morning and the evening. It consists in a boat raised by the Valar and led by Eärendil, who carries a shining Silmaril while watching the Doors of Night. The Door of Night was a portal in the distant Uttermost West that leads to heaven, and/or the Void. Eärendil's ship Vingilot was taken by the Valar from the rim of the world, passed through the Door and was lifted into the "oceans of heaven". PS: Eärendil is ELROND’s half Vanyar Elf half human father, that father was the son of the great Tuor of the great stories of The Children Of Húrin book!❤❤❤❤ Aragorn is a CLOSE descendant of a direct bloodline to Elros(Elrond’s Twin Brother) The title of half elven (Peredhel) was due to the combined history of Beren&Lúthien, his mother Elwing was the granddaughter of Lùthien! Eärendil was the husband of Elwing. The true half elf; son of the best elvish women ever who rescued hundreds from the highest of elvish kingdoms(Gondolin); her name is Idril & one of the best most powerful men around named Tuor. Who later on when they went to Valinor together through their own way lead to him choosing to be counted as One Of The Eldar for Idril. Eärendil did the same for Elwing. ❤

Part 2 about Treebeard (Fangorn) - So who do we believe? Gandalf? Remember: Treebeard was in middle earth before even Galadriel entered there during the zenith years of Arda and of the elves and even the early mighty dawn of men when they came upon the scene. • Celeborn is said by his wife Galadriel to be the wisest of elves left in Middle-earth especially due to the fact he was a close kinsman family member of Elu Thingol Of Doriath (of which Elwë[Thingol] was Galadriel’s grandfathers closest friend and literal brother. The only. To there to stay in middle earth) Galadriel is certainly one of the oldest, she came over with the very first migration to middle earth, but Celeborn may not be as old as she is. People who go in for the rough drafts of Tolkien's creative process have noted that he first appears in the house of Thingol Graycloak long after the elves came to Middle-earth. But the ents were here when the elves arrived. The Elves are the eldest race of Elves, Men and Dwarves. The Hobbits were not included in the mythology and neither were the Ents. This does not necessarily mean the Ents are actually older than the Elves, just that they were here before the Elves got here. Fangorn is the oldest living being in the world; and is the personification of nature of the world. But the undying lands where the Elves originated were removed from the Circles of the World. However, the author does imply Fangorn is older than either Celeborn or Galadriel, because Gandalf claims he is the oldest living thing in Middle-earth and the two elves themselves address him as "Eldest". A couple other things to consider, from Hammond and Scull: in an unpublished draft letter of late 1968, now in a private collection, Tolkien wrote: 'Eldest was the courtesy title of Treebeard as the oldest surviving Ent. The Ents claimed to be the oldest ’speaking people’ after the Elves [illegible] until taught the art of speech by the Elves...They were therefore placed after the dwarves in the Old List...since Dwarves had the power of speech from their awaking’ “The Lord of the Rings, A Reader’s Companion” Hammond and Scull, page 382 Treebeard: Entry 464 The Ent And on page 499, while explaining Tolkien describing both Treebeard and Bombadil as ’eldest’, Hammond and Scull note: ’...it is worth repeating Christopher Tolkien’s comment that his father was given to ’rhetorical superlatives’, such as ’the oldest living thing’.

Maeras are a particularly special breed of horses descended from the horse ridden by Eorl, the first king of Rohan. Normally, they only allow descendants of Eorl to ride them which makes it all the more impressive that Shadowfax lets Gandalf ride him.

The poem was written by a forgotten poet for Eorl, long before the War of the Ring. On the way to Edoras, Aragorn chants a poem in Rohanese to characterize the Rohirrim. The text is not given. After Legolas comments that the sound of the words resembles the land of Rohan, Aragorn recites his translation of it, which is this poem:
“Where now the horse and the rider? Where is the horn that was blowing?
Where is the helm and the hauberk, and the bright hair flowing?
Where is the hand on the harpstring, and the red fire glowing?
Where is the spring and the harvest and the tall corn growing?
They have passed like rain on the mountain, like a wind in the meadow;
The days have gone down in the West behind the hills into shadow.
Who shall gather the smoke of the dead wood burning,
Or behold the flowing years from the Sea returning?” But they somehow made Thèoden recite a portion of it: At the beginning of the Battle of Helm's Deep, Théoden recites some lines of the song, lamenting how alone the Rohirrim stand (so it fits for the movie! Just not for the books so much… as it’s misplaced) here is what he recited in the movie: “Where is the horse and the rider?
Where is the horn that was blowing?
They have passed like rain on the mountains,
like wind in the meadow.
The days have gone down in the West,
behind the hills... into Shadow. The remaining lines are sung in Old English on the score in the background in the above and other scenes. “Where now the horse and the rider? Where is the horn that was blowing?

Love Rohan? it’d never have existed without Galadriel’s help: saving Gondor & enabled Rohan leading to its FOUNDING. Delivered Gondor from invasion & led to the foundation of Rohan, five centuries before the LotR. This is an account on the event. * The Rohirrim were in origin the folk named Éothéod, who lived in the North. In 2510 of the Third Age Gondor was invaded by both Easterlings and Orcs at the same time. Borondir, a messenger, delivered a desperate request for aid from the Steward of Gondor to the Éothéod; for their forefathers had often been allies (check art by Julax). * Eorl the Young, the King of the Éothéod rode out on his steed Felaróf (a forefather of Shadowfax), and his mounted host followed, seven thousand strong (art by Wouter Florusse). They rode along the Mirkwood forest until they came near Dol Guldur, where the Necromancer [Sauron] had his abode; and the attacks on Gondor were according to his will... * Eorl turned away westward for fear of the dark shadow and cloud that flowed out from Dol Guldur, and then he rode on within sight of the Anduin river. Many riders looked toward the river, half in fear and half in hope to glimpse from afar the Dwimordene, the perilous land that in legends of their people was said to shine like gold in spring: Lórien. "But now it seemed shrouded in a gleaming mist and to their dismay the mist passed over the river and flowed over the land before them. Eorl did not halt. `Ride on!' he commanded. `There is no other way to take. After so long a road shall we be held back from battle by a river-mist?'" ~ Unfinished Tales; III; II (check art by Guillaume Tholly) But they saw that the white mist was driving back the glooms of Dol Guldur, and soon they passed into it, riding slowly at first and warily; but under its canopy all things were lit with a clear and shadowless light, while to left and right they were guarded as it were by white walls of secrecy: "`The Lady of the Golden Wood is on our side, it seems,' said Borondir." * Eorl was not as sure about that as the messenger but trusted in the wisdom of his horse Felaróf: "`He scents no evil. His heart is high, and his weariness is healed: he strains to be given his head. So be it! For never have I had more need of secrecy and speed.' Then Felaróf sprang forward, and all the host behind followed like a great wind, but in a strange silence, as if their hooves did not beat upon the ground." The host rode on, as fresh and eager as on the morning of their setting-out, during that day and the next (obviously thanks to Galadriel). At dawn of the third day they rose from rest and the mist was gone, and they saw that they were far out in the open lands. A crossing of the river was near and "they had come there at a speed beyond hope". The Éothéod arrived in the nick of time to rescue Gondor's army and defeat their foes (art by JB Casacop). The intervention by Galadriel both saved Gondor and ensured the foundation of Rohan, for in gratitude (and wisdom) the Steward gave Gondor's northern territory to Eorl. There the Éothéod settled, soon known as the Eorlingas or the Rohirrim, and held it until the LOTR era.

My interpretation for why Aragorn intervened to stop Theoden killing Wormtongue is that Aragorn at this point is excessively sentimental. He is not the finished article at this point: in film 1 he exhibits a lot of self-doubt for instance. Whereas in film 3 he becomes fully confident AND more pragmatic/ruthless: he executes a diplomat at the black gate in cold blood. The idea to spare Grima is immediately shown to be unwise as he heads straight to Saruman, giving him advice on how to destroy Rohan. The hand spitting also makes clear that Aragorn's excessive mercy is being repaid with trechery.

Glorfindel was a lord of Gondolin, who after the city fell was helping civilians flee. A Balrog was set on a mountain pass to ambush & genocide the citizens in what was known as Battle Of Sudden Flame. Glorfindel battles the Balrog solo, which culminates in both falling off the mountain into a ravine to their mutual destruction. Ecthelion was also a lord of Gondolin, and the warden of the city’s gate. He had been injured fighting through the city during its fall. The remaining forces were in the centre square, with the city’s Fountain (of which Ecthelion was lord of the people of the fountain). Gothmog, captain of the Balrogs, breaks through with the attack. He wounds Ecthelion, who - due to his injuries - cannot hold neither sword nor shield. So he leaps at Gothmog, rams his spiked(bladed helmet) helmet into the Balrog, and causes both of them to tumble into the Fountain. They are both too heavy to swim, and both injured, so they both drown (or have their inner fire extinguished). The steam from the fountain’s ruin adds to the chaos, assisting in some fleeing the city with Tuor, the princess Idril, and Glorfindel. (Remember the prologue war in the fellowship of the ring? See those curved Blade-Esque things ontop of the elvish men’s helmets? That’s due to the ancient battle of Echthelion and the Balrog at Gondolin making its way into augmented design for their armour.) So it’s also a theme that happens in the books where there usually is always something to do with falling into water. Except Fëanor who slayed several balrogs at once & Gothmog slayed him after one bound him suddenly when he was supposed to have a “one on one” duel with Gothmog but one wasn’t wanting to play fair. But he was fatally wounded and so his sons and host moved him away to a safe place where his body burned up from the fires of his own spirit. This was at The Battle Under Stars (Dagor Nuin Giliath).

When I'm playing a reaction video of a movie I'm very familiar with -- like this one -- I usually leave it playing on a tab while I surf the web or whatever. Gives me something to listen to and I usually know what's happening in the movie just by listening. Yours, though, i have to actually watch because your reactions are so much fun. As for him being a bit confused with the name Gandalf is because his true name is Olórin, his name in elvish is Mithrandir, the grey pilgrim, Gandalf means "elf with a wand" and was the name that Gondor's now lost sister kingdom Arnor (which the shrire was a part of, hence why they use Gandalf) called him by.

The sword Gandalf wielded caused the Balrog’s primordial sword to burst into a rain of molten lava in an almost majestic way. It too belong to high elven king Turgon of the great hidden realm of Gondolin, surrounded by tallest mountains. Named Glamdring; meaning “Foe Hammer”. Gandalf broke the balrog’s unholy weapon. Epic right? His original staff broke when he let some of his true powers show to grant a miracle from his own life force. This is the same thing for how the elves do “magic” Galadriel herself tells Frodo and Sam that things elves do may seem like magic but they don’t really use such a word since they are one with the world, symbiotic with it if the world perished so would they.

In addition to the glow-up, the new Gandalf got a different job. Wizard colours are not about rank, but portfolio: the white wizard is in charge of rallying defenses against Sauron and gets along best with Men, while the grey wizard is meant to travel around Middle Earth giving aid and news to different communities and gets along best with Elves. (There is also a brown wizard who doesn't feature in this story but is in charge of protecting nature - he is the one who taught Saruman how to use birds to gather information) Since Saruman wasn't doing the (suddenly very necessary) job of white wizard anymore, Gandalf was reborn to fill that role.

Tis sad Gandalf the grey passed, but thankfully, he was not done, and sent back even more powerful. The scene where Lord Elrond spoke to his daughter about what "could be" was so insanely sad to me. Every time I see that part, even at home - years later, I would attempt to force tear's back away. Personally, that is the quickest portion in a movie, that tugs at heart strings, I have ever seen to this day. It's just so insanely deep, maybe hits me personally, I don't know. But it really hits hard. Another wonderful video! Thank You for all your hard work, this is getting better and better. Lots of love from us fans, I can't wait to see the next!

Estele is Aragons name. As a child Elrond knew he would be hunted as the last heir to the throne of Arnor and Gondor. He mother someime in his 30s or 40s Gave up, saying, Hope I gave to the world, I keep none for myself. ❤️ Please react to the Tolkien ensemble bringing to live treebeards song to his wife Fimbrethil!

Gandalf isnt his name, nor is Mithrandir. Those are simply names the people and elves gave him when the met him. Gandalf is an angel named Olórin, so when he meets Aragorn and them in the woods it had forgotten the names men and elves gave him because from his point of view he had been dead and in heaven for thousands of years.

The part about the dead marshes includes Legolas’s Father; Thranduil, & Thranduil’s father Oropher, were to join the Last Alliance in from a different angle to achieve a certain war tactic but Oropher and others got waylayed by orcs & many corrupted men which lead to eventually Oropher dying there, this loss effected Legolas’s father so very deeply forevermore. The bond between he and his son is the same bond Thranduil has with Legolas. And the braid he wears is to honour his grandfather. I believe after his death braids became less common. A sort of respect thing I believe. Both his father and Grandfather lived in Doriath(Elu Thingol’s domain[Elwë], which was heartbea of middle earth; Aside from Gondolin which held this mantle until it’s secret location was given up by a tortured elf who was the son of a very important mother who was the sister of the high king Turgon). All on a landmass called Beleriand that sunk under the sea after a set of disastrous events that lead to many greater outcomes much later on in the legendarium. This here is a whole set of stories of which also includes a quite a bit of Galadriel too but moreso other characters during this era. Of Beren And Lùthien comes to mind and Children Of Hurin!! You’ll fall in love even more after the third movie. Then you can enter into the lore videos like Moviejoob and OmarioRPG have done reaction videos too. Amazing stuff. One thing to add though is this scene resembles a lot from the other battle Tolkien was involved in called The Battle Of Somme. Look into it and tell me your thoughts. I’ll add something here though: that clan of elves really didn’t like being under the command of anyone else so they went ahead without the order and let’s just say it didn’t end well. That and they weren’t fond of the Ñoldor… huge history there as to why that is. That and the Sindar subgroup of these clans were a tiny bit more isolationist. But there are many amazing Sindar in the legendarium too Elrond and his two sons and daughter are connected to all of the main clans of men and elves through the union of his half elf father and full elf(quarter goddess) mother. Who essentially played a huge role in saving the world from the original dark lord Morgoth. Gained the Favour Of Valinor. Which subsequently lead to Numenor being a gift from the sea to the men who helped. Becoming blessed. Their land existing within the light of Valinor as it was situated closely to The Undying Lands. (The same ancestry Aragorn has that Èowyn spoke of while they were travelling to Helm’s Deep! (Elrond’s Twin Brother became the first king of Númenor. His name becoming Tar-Minyatur, and those faithful to Eru, the elves and the natural world all of this line carried Tar before their name! Ar for Aragorn is the word meaning Noble in his tongue called Adúnaic. That too is a fleshed out language Tolkien created too. Elvish languages also were placed into the official list of world languages too!

Gollum rescued Frodo from the marshes because as one of the riverfolk, he is very comfortable around water. Sam, on the other hand, cannot swim at all, as shown at the end of the Fellowship. There is a case to be made that Gollum was actually trying to save the ring from being lost instead of saving Frodo from drowning, but I think in reality it was a little of both. He didnt want the ring to be lost to the marshes, but he also didnt want to let Frodo die, since he was the first person in hundreds of years to show hin kindness & trust by removing his leash. I think in some way, Gollum knew that Frodo was sympathetic towards him, & was returning his kindness.

The running theory is that the entwives are over in the forest on the boarders of buckland in the shire, the entwives enjoy taking care of fruit bearing plants and flowers while the ents shepard the trees this makes sense because of how the hobbits are very fond of gardening that the entwives would also be in that area

One of the most touching reactions to Gandalf’s return that I have seen. And I do watch a lot of these. Too many, actually. 😊

Curious fact: did you know that the scene where Aragorn kicks the helmet in frustration when looking for the hobbits, and then he screams as he believes they're dead, the scream was out of real pain because he broke one toe in that part? yeah, not much people know that. HAD TO EDIT MY COMMENT AND ADD THIS: because I just realized that someone else had made that comment before but I added that it was Aragorn and the scream part being out of real pain, there... I made my contribution to that comment so this is like part 2

27:00 Smeagol was originally a Stoor, a now extinct species of hobbit that instead of living in the Shire, lived on the other side of Middle Earth on the River Anduin (the longest river in Middle Earth and the one Boromir died at.) And unlike the other hobbit specieses they could grow facial hair. The reason they call him Gollum is because that's what it sounds like when he coughs. 27:40 that's a Fellbeast. Dragons are far too big and proud to let anyone ride them. If you wanna see a dragon, watch The Hobbit. 30:50 I think I and others mentioned this on the last video but the 5 Wizards, Sauron and the Balrog are all Maiar. To put it simply, angelic-spirits (the wizards take the form of old men because that's more approachable than a giant ball of light) since Gandalf was the only one that stayed true to the mission of the Wizards, not only was he allowed to come back, he came back with Saruman's job. 51:15 Dwarf women do have beards but it's more like a modest chin strap, compared to the entire raccoon stapled to the dwarf male's face.

I freaking love LOTR fans. It was so fun watching you at the beginning as Gandalf's fall was being replayed. No spoilers. You are going to need to keep tissues handy for the rest of these films.

Fun fact, Young Ned also plays Young Elrond in the amazon prequel show. I'm honestly not a fan of that show, but he did a really good job in my opinion.

A reason Gollum/Smegol was acting off his rocker at the black gate was because Sauron had him tortured, like a lot. Sauron personally oversaw it to try and find the ring. Gollum/Smegol hate, HATE Sauron with a passion. His line, "we mustn't let him have it." Is true.

Fun fact: Merry and Pippin drink enough of the Ent-draught that they end up becoming the tallest Hobbits in the shire since their ancestor, Bullroarer Took

Good on the people who told you he was dead so you got the extra surprise of his return. Those of us who know the books before the movies didn't get that surprise. Though since he was killed as Gandalf the Grey and reborn as Gandalf the White he did technically die. They didn't cover it in the movies but Gandalf the White cannot be touched by any weapon, he is insanely powered up even more than Sauruman the White was. The thing I hated about the story is how the Urukai are created. They are created by breeding the races of orcs and men. And it's a 90% certainty that because orcs are corrupted Elves that they reproduce the same as men. Not an image that I like to think about but is unavoidable. The Ent Wives left Fangorn Forest and went north, it's suspected they they actually are the trees that Merry spoke of that could speak and move on the borders of The Shire. But Tolkien never confirmed this theory. They never returned though and the Ents eventually ceased to exist.

Bob Anderson, a former Olympic fencer with a half-century (by this point) as a screen swordmaster, including Star Wars lightsaber fights and The Princess Bride, said Viggo was the most natural swordsman he ever trained, adding to the reasons why the fellowship, and the crew, knew their king.

Yeah so that chasm Gandalf fell into was so deep that it went all the way to the core of the planet, and you had best believe he fought the Balrog ALL THE WAY DOWN and then ALL THE WAY BACK UP because Gandalf is HIM

Imagine being so powerful, wise and needed that for the divine plan to succeed you would be brought back from the physical death with now increased permission to use your almost unlimited powers. That's Gandalf - The White - an Istari, who is returned to his body by The One Alone Ruler, Eru/First/God himself. He resembles Odin in Tolkien's lore, walking the Earth for ages as an old, robed man with his powers (within his staff) always. No wonder he says to Gimli he'll never meet anyone scarier in ME. He was never told not to use his powers, but discouraged from interfering, working as an advisor. Sauron is the only one more powerful, the fire Balrog of Morgoth was Gandalf's equal. Hence the hesitation and releasing the staff's energy to counter the attack. He even advised the fire creature formed spirit not to mess with its equal, but no good. Now he is stronger than Saruman, who beat him earlier. Those kinds of powers would probably devastate living creatures if they just cast their robes aside and burned bright.

Regarding the swamp scene, whenever Frodo does something really weird like that you can assume it's the Ring affecting his mind. As their journey goes on, it takes a deeper and deeper hold on him.
