Judy is played by Michelle Meyrink, who the following year would feature in one of the greatest nerd movies of all time, "Real Genius" starring Val Kilmer. Between the two movies, she was a major crush for nerds of that generation. If you haven't seen Real Genius, I highly recommend it. Something I've always loved about this movie is that the protagonist group isn't just nerds, it's every type of outcast and misfit, and all of them were unconditionally welcomed by the others. There was only one significant group of nerds from that era that wasn't represented, a group that I was and still am proudly a part of. D&D players. I find it really amusing that now, in the current era, a lot of the wealthiest and most successful people are nerds, and D&D is a mainstream thing that people watch other people play on RU-vid. We endured so that they could thrive. RotN2 is... okay. There are some really funny bits, and then there's a lot that just doesn't work as well. The two direct-to-video sequels (#3 and #4) are actually better, with #4 probably being the best one since the original.

This was one of the better entries in a whole sub-genre of teen comedies with T&A. Their target demographic was high school and college age boys. Most of them were intended for drive-in, and then later, video cassette markets. Although certain aspects of them (you know which ones) are now considered objectionable, at the time it was just what the audience expected. The great producer of exploitation films, Roger Corman, even had very specific guidelines he instructed his directors on. How many instances of visible breasts, how much full frontal, how many main characters and what their racial and cultural makeup should be. Corman was trained as an engineer, and he got exploitation films down to a science. He is also the greatest single person in Hollywood history, having launched the careers of people like James Cameron, Martin Scorsese, Joe Dante, Francis Ford Coppola, and many others. The 60's, 70's and 80's were a different time. There was a mainstream first-run blaxploitation film, starring former football player Fred Williamson, advertised on theater marquees across the country, called "Boss Nigger". Let's see them advertise that today.

Thanks for reacting to this. I know some things in this film are considered problematic today, but when this came out in 1984 it was viewed as the nerds being the underdog taking on the man, and the man in this movie were the jocks and the Pies. And even though some consider it inappropriate, we definitely were rooting for them taking on the privileged class:)

This movie was inspired by a magazine article of the same name. The only thing similar with the movie is the title. It describes how the once high school losers/nerds are now leading the 80's high tech boom, becoming wealthy and getting the hot chicks who would have previously ignore them. The magazine was the long defunct New West.

But I was also a stoner, so I didn't fit in with "normal" society or whatever...I wasn't an outcast...I just didn't feel like I wanted to be part of a larger group. Though several elements haven't aged well, particularly some of the raunchier elements that are forms of assault 😬, Revenge of the Nerds is still an 80s classic. Great cast of names (see if you can spot Poindexter in anything else - Timothy Busfield is in a ton of stuff but you'll never connect him with Poindexter 🤣) Killer 80s soundtrack with obligatory montage (Poindexter fighting the robot will always make me laugh) And a good lesson learned by everyone in the end. The sequel lacks the SA stuff thankfully. It's still raunchy fun, but way less creepy. Most of the Lambdas return, as does Ogre, so it's worth a watch. For more of Curtis Armstrong - One Crazy Summer and Better Off Dead, both with John Cusack. He pops up some strange cameos too (Dodgeball, Jingle All The Way)

This movie is a product of its time. A time when comedies were unashamedly fun. But what really made it stand out from other comedies of that time is that it was much deeper than it seems, with its commentary about discrimination.

Great video. Incidentally, "mopery" is police slang for minor or trivial offenses--it was put in the movie as a joke.

Back then, this might have been a surprise hit…it had no stars, yet they made 3 sequels, I believe..the last sequel were maybe the sons of the original Nerds.. 0:55 0:55

Two really good movies for you guys to check out that are set right around this same 80s time period that I think you guys would absolutely love if you haven't seen them before are 1987's 'Summer School' with Mark Harmon & Kirstie Alley (one of my favorite films ever) & 1985's 'Just One of the Guys' where a girl reporter poses as a male student for an article she's writing. Both are such great films & I don't think anyone's reacted to either of them before to my knowledge..

Glad you two covered this movie, an 80s classic! Booger had the best line..."We've got bush, we've got bush!" as if it were a NASA confirmation LOL! As I was watching the two of you reminded me of characters that Molly Shannon and Ana Gasteyer played in the 90s on SNL as public radio hosts. The funniest one to me was the "Schwetty Balls" skit. Check it out.

I remember finding this on cable channel "Fox Movie Network" back in 2008. They played full & UNEDITED movies with zero commercials. Finding this movie at the start of puberty was an "interesting" experience LOL, but man the humor is still fantastic :3

Try watching "Porky's", "Crocodile Dundee", "Beverly Hills Cop", "Airplane!", "Police Academy" and "Who framed Roger Rabbit?"... Get back to me then 😈😏💫
