Agreed, the art style from the LNs is my absolute favourite. I've been using the cover for volume 1 as my background for years now

For me it always looked like the mix between WW1 Germany and WW2 Russia, as ironic as it sounds :)

@@poochyenajones1362 My opinion is that the Russy Federation is more like WW1 before the fall of the Regime which created the Soviet Union. While being a Federation instead of a Tsardom, it is a failing destabilized government with starving population and without as much an iron grip on their people as it would like and not nearly as ideologically driven and stable iron grip the USSR of WW2 had. So for me, it still is WW1 Russia with WW1 Germany equivalents of countries.

Also the story is set to 1942 (in our timeline it would be ww2)

@@Dark3251 1923 actually so just a bit after World War 1 but before World War 2. Edit: 1942 is probably the year setting of segments in the novel and manga that fast forward 20 years later in the "present or future time" war documentary during peace time retracing the history of Tanya and the Great war that happened 20 years prior before cutting back to 1923 with Tanya being involved with what was shown during segment.

They are not Nazi. It's an alternate world with different history and people. Even some of the countries have different borders (no belgium and netherland, usa has less states and the entente alliance arr one country instead of 3). The circumstances for Nazi ideology hasn't been born yet nor met with the required sentiment as the anime still revolves around taking the land and its people as whole according to medieval belief (its a world that is on tye crush of change as seen my the battle of dakia) and not about racial superiority. And if you want to go into details it's not even the correct time period as the story happens between ww 1 and ww 2 in our world. Their design is heavily influenced from Germany (names, pointy helmet,etc) and that's it. The asthetic is also German (the gothic structure in buildings and churches).

Well the Video from CJ Dachamp has quite a lot of errors in it. Tanya is described way to harsh. She's no Saint and not a genuinly good person but she is not a Devil in the context of the show. Really recommend watching the anime and reading the manga and LN. A lot of her behaviors make a lot more sense with the background of the manga and LN :)
