Sidney Poitier made history again by directing Stir Crazy in 1980. It made over 100 million dollars at the box office and was the highest grossing movie made by a Black director at the time.
One of the funniest movies ever made, hands down. Richard Pryor and Gene Wilder made one of the most dynamic comedic duos ever. We need more people like them today. Fun Fact: Prior to filming, Arizona State Prison Warden Robert Raines had tried to organize a rodeo for 2 years. The biggest obstacle was the cost of constructing an arena, complete with grandstand, stables, and livestock chutes. When Columbia Pictures inquired about renting the prison for a film shoot, he saw a way to realize his dream. If security could be maintained, the prison was available for a fee which matched the budget for the new rodeo grounds. Raines said: "There was a fringe benefit we didn't anticipate. Morale in the prison was never higher. Some 350 inmates signed on as extras, playing themselves, and the rest, even the most notorious troublemakers, stayed on their best behavior. There were simply no incidents."
That guy towards the end who helped them escape was mostly indian. His name is Henry Kingi and he was in a lot of stuff back then and was a widely used stuntman. He was also known for being married to Lindsey Wagner, the actress who played the Bionic Woman.
I saw this theatrically with my parents when I was 13. I love this movie, R.I.P. Richard and Gene, and thank you both for all of the laughter and smiles you brought us.👍
You're referring to that Indian guy he said in an interview he's actually mixed with a little bit of everything black white Indian Mexican he also was a stunt driver on the series Dukes of Hazzard back in the 80s
I appreciate you sharing a moment with your mom. You should watch Brewsters Millions. It also has Richard. Old movies are fun. Thanks for watching one from back in the day.
If you haven't seen "Nothing to Lose" it is a must comedy. Martin Lawrence and Tim Robbins have great chemistry in one of the funniest movies you will watch.
the Texas Prison rodeo was a real thing. :The prison rodeo was introduced in 1931 and was done away with in 1986, according to the Texas State Historical Association.
The Queen is back! Good to see you lady Zo helping show the kids some classics. You be good to your mum now MellV, do the dishes, wash her car, push the hoover around once a week.
Love this movie so much Gene and Richard got great chemistry. My list of Richard Pryor movies. 1. See no evil, hear no evil 2. Stir crazy 3. The toy 4. Brewster's Millions 5. Critical Condition
Another film with Richard in is Blue Collar , with Yaphet Kotto and Harvey Keitel . It is about some car workers in Detroit and it is good to see Richard in a serious role ( although he is great in his comedy ones ) . It isnt a well known film though .
Fun Fact:the guy who plays Deputy Wilson also voices Mr.Incredible in The Incredibles. Now you have to do his serious roles films of Richard Pryor:Blue Collar(1978 possibly he's best performance)and Lost Highway(well I would not call this a serious one since he only did a cameo but the film is very more like a surreal thriller and I definitely recommend it whether it gets views or not.).
Another fun fact is actor who plays Deputy Wilson(Craig T. Nelson) and the lawyer's cousin Meredith(Jobeth Williams) would later appear together in the 1982 horror classic film "Poltergeist".
Great reaction. I remember watching this in the theaters with my grandma and she was laughing like crazy. A great classic movie with a black cast is The Last Dragon from 1985. It's a Kung Fu action/comedy. Its a must watch.
This is my favourite comedy ever. Also love See No Evil Hear No Evil. These 2 were brilliant together and had such great chemistry.Love all your videos and nice to see your Mum again.
Wow! This movie takes me back. My brother and I would watch this movie a lot. Friday was pizza and movie night after the newspapers were delivered. Yep I'm old.
I saw this movie in the theatres when it came out. Laughed so hard!! Later in the years , they both did another movie together in their older years. And they also did a movie called " Silver Streak " together.
You need to watch See No Evil, Hear to Evil. Far and beyond the best movie they made together. The scene were they are being interrogated cracks me up every time I watch it.
I saw this in the theater opening and the theater was sold out. You had to see the movie again because the laughing drowned out half the dialog. 400 people laughing at once! Do you know what that sounds like? Amazing! I loved both these guys growing up in the 70s & 80s. I saw all their movies in the theater. When I was 14 all my friends were buying Rock Albums and I was buying Richard Pryor Albums. When I was in Grade 9 my teacher had us watch and study all the Sydney Poitier films He never said why, but I was better for it
...cannot help but subscribe to this RU-vid channel, based upon this video. Oh, if I only had the opportunity to share a video experience...hell, multiple commentary viewing experiences like this with my own mom before she passed. Thank you for this.....
OK...the intro...is that what Will Smith used to call "dumb dancing"? Totally not trying to be insulting, but that was just as hilarious as what Will used to do on Fresh Prince, and it looked a lot like it, so I wanted to give you kudos for the laughs. Sorry if that was not what you were doing. ✌💯😁
Watch "See no evil, hear no evil"with Wilder and Pryor. Also check out "Blazing Saddles". Gene Wilder supposed to have played in it which he did. Also Richard Pryor was supposed to have played in it as "the Sheriff " but because of his strong addiction to cocaine, he could not be trusted. They got somebody else to replace him, to do the part and needless to say, he was very, very good. Both Mel Brooks and Richard Pryor did a whole lot of writing on the story. Richard Pryor wrote all of the parts of the White people and Mel Brooks wrote all the parts of the Black people and they were both very, very good. But anyway thank you for playing this flick. I enjoyed them both. Have a Blessed a Blessed youse two. Have a blessed evening. Adios.
Before the movie even starts, Mom's shirt is amazing. I know a friend that needs that 😂 We don't want to watch your hearts break like ours over Matrix 4. You might throw things. I may have.
OMFG YEEEESSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! One of THE best movies EVER!!!!!!! I have this on DVD, have had it for a long time, watch it at least once a month!!! GREAT reaction!!! Thank you!! "Oh hooo carry me back to OL' Virginia, Lord!" ALWAYS cracks me up!!! "Freight trained???" "Congratulations, you found the secret word!" "They cut off one of my testicles by mistake." "Hello, how you go?" NOW, if you want to watch another great movie from back in the day, again directed by the great Sidney Poitier, you MUST watch Let's Do It Again.
Yeah, about 20:30 that's Franklyn Ajaye. Great character actor, and he WAS in "Car Wash" Also in "Convoy" much later in "Deadwood" If you haven't seen "Bustin' Loose" it's a classic Richard Pryor movie, no Gene Wilder but still hilarious.
JOE DIRT!!! god that was my movie when i was younger. ive always been the type to NEVER watch reruns on purpose cause i was forced to watch so much of it when i could only get anime on TV. BUT JOE DIRT was the ONE VHS i would put in and could watch over and over again every year
Never realized until just now that the female lawyer (JoBeth Williams) and the deputy warden (Craig T. Nelson) were also both in Poltergeist as husband and wife.
It's been a while, and it's such a campy 70s vibe, but if you know that going in, then you might really like Hear No Evil See No Evil. Right MsZo? "Does dad know!!???" 😆
The worst thing about Silver Streak is that Richard Pryor doesn't appear until half way through the movie. Stir Crazy and See No Evil, Hear No Evil have them together right from the beginning, which is how it should be. They have such amazing chemistry together. I couldn't really care less about the workmanlike direction from Sidney Poitier or the lazy storyline, as it's all about Pryor and Wilder.
A really interesting miniseries that Sidney Poitier did is called Separate but Equal. It's a biopic about school integration. Burt Lancaster is in it as well, along with Cleavon Little (who I think you know from Blazing Saddles) and Lynne Thigpen (from Lean On Me). It was made in the 90s and I think I've seen it on streaming channels. Also, Sidney Poitier did a movie called To Sir, with Love in the 60s, where he plays an American teacher at an inner-city London school. For another black history recommendation, The Black Klansman was fascinating. Your mom is great. Fun to watch. All the best. p.s. Dunkin' Donuts has been around since the 1950s, along with McDonald's and KFC (which used to be known as Kentucky Fried Chicken). P.P.S. See No Evil, Hear No Evil is my favorite Pryor/Wilder movie. My favorite Richard Pryor movie is called The Toy.
Yes, we had Dunkin Donuts back then... They were made fresh too. Not the pre frozen donuts you get today. All donuts come in frozen then baked nowadays. 🤔 I miss the old days
