When Flynn showed Rupunzel affection he moved her hair out of her face. When Mother Gothel showed her affection, she was always touching her hair. Good details.
3:18 "She kidnapped- is this disney???" Do you know how many disney princesses are kidnapped or enslaved at some point? More than you'd expect. Classic fairytales are dark bro.
Simple kidnapping doesn't really happen much to a Disney princess'. Only Rapunzel, Jasmine, and Belle have been "kidnapped". You could maybe add Tiana and Cinderella but they are only captured for maybe 2 minutes of run time. I don't know if Pocahontas was kidnapped, I've never seen it. So Rapunzel was definitively kidnapped, Jasmin became Jafars servant for a day, and Bell traded prison sentences with her father.
It's beyond Disney princesses, it's most Disney movies in general and even the IP's they buy, ie., Marvel and Star Wars. They love either the children being orphans or the children have parent issues.....SMH!!!!
@@nesrovlahsurvivalist8399 Arora (sleeping beauty) had to be kidnapped away to ensure the curse couldnt be stopped (in the original animation, in the live action she was kidnapped a couple times to prevent the curse from happening to her, didnt work) Esmerelda (hunchback of notradom, sorry sp is non existing) was kidnapped and imprisoned (twice) I would argue anna (from frozen) was kidnapped In snow white stories, (not shown in the original disney movie) the huntsman actually kidnaps her and takes her to the forest, instead of "going for a walk in the woods" Only other princesses i can think of is Merida and Mulan (who were restrained but not kidnapped)
42:28 Basically it means that the flower was so intrinsically embedded in her mind that she subconsciously drew one in all the paintings she had ever done without even noticing, She probably already suspected she was the lost princess the moment she saw the image of her as a baby in the city, but Gotel's manipulation was so profound that even seeing a photo of herself as baby in the arms of her parents she still was like "no, it can't be, i'm imagining things" But she ended up keeping the doubt inside her mind, and the moment she saw the flowers in the paintings she has made since she was a child was the moment she realized it wasn't all in her head, it was real, she has never seen that flower before yet she drew it in EVERY SINGLE PIECE OF ART she ever drew
When you realize that mother Gothel could have avoided this if she just changed Rapunzel's birthday when she kidnapped her. Then Rapunzel would never feel like the lanterns were for her or make the connection.
@@El270Elle In fairness to Mother Gothel, that tower in a private walled off meadow was prime real estate and probably hard to come by. She didn't have a lot of choices when it comes to renting secluded hideouts and evidently her scheme was just personal youth, so she was clearly on a budget too.
@@Dani_Alexis Yeah but the reasons behind the theory were explained as something different in frozen 2,basically drbunked. We learned Elsa got her powers from another source not the flower, the parents were not going to Rapunzel wedding and Elsa's mom was born somewhere in a tribe of isolated people.
50:17 I've heard the analogy. Rapunzel is literally a flower. Its petals are the most open and bright part, but all the power is not in them, but in the stem. It's the same with Rapunzel-the power is not in her hair, but in herself. Therefore, she was able not only to heal Eugene's wound, but to resurrect him from the dead.
Mother Gothel was just stupid to keep her birthday on the correct day. You kidnapped a baby mam, you can tell her any day of the year is her birthday.... She would never think the lights where meant for her as she says she has a feeling they are... But hey most Disney villians are stupid or they would win...😉
Love this movie! About Gothel's attachment to Rapunzel, she's attached to Rapunzel's hair not Rapunzel herself. Notice that when she shows what seems like genuine affection, she's usually actually focused on Rapunzel's hair (looking at it, touching it etc). It's all she wanted. Gothel wouldn't even have kidnapped Rapunzel if cutting a lock of hair didn't drain the magic from it. She solidly took on the tremendous job of motherhood just for a girl's magic hair 😂
my mother was actually like mother gothel. wasnt allowed outside. not even in my own backyard. couldn’t even open the door without getting in trouble. it was because “there are predators out there!” even though I lived in a super safe area. plus she always told me I would never survive on my own. & the best part. my mom totally didn’t understand that mother gothel was the villain!!! and would say “I like this song! i say all these to you! even disney thinks im right!” whenever mother knows best came on.
I hope you just start your conversations with every new therapist with that anecdote. Sending you love. I hope you found friends like the outcasts at the Snuggly Duckling to make you feel more secure and supported.
I was both so shocked and grateful when I first watched this movie. My mom literally looks like Mother Gothel with the hair face. Just like to Rapunzel my mom says the same words to gaslight and manipulate my siblings and I. When I felt it was time for me to move out as an adult, my mom also said the same words like Mother Gothel to Rapunzel. What was even crazier was while I was watching this movie when I was younger, my mom started singing only the line to my face "Mother knows best" to tell me I should listen to her. It was a bit creepy, but I had a moment of realization to plan to move and never come back. Our dad never defended us and would charge at us for caling out her wrongs cuz as their children they believe it's disrespectful to correct the parent. Even when I would share to family members and other parents some didn't believe me. I really hated it when people say "Your mom loves you and she works hard to support you." No, it's not the same. There is a difference between a mom really loving their child and showing it thru pure kindess and a mom who pretends to love their child because they have to while using their child for their own gain. I use to have moments of doubts just like Rapunzel that I had broken my mom's heart by leaving and felt guilty to think she was a bad person. But even when I tried to give my mom many chances of putting my trust in her with like personal info she still to this year after 10 years talk about me behind my back, and spread false rumors as I gain skills in life and build my career. My life is like entertainment to her to talk down about even tho I show her my most respect and kindness. So I don't get it. And they wonder why my siblings and I have had mental issues and make fun of us for it. I live now on the other side of the world, and I could never go back to live home. And even when one of my siblings passed away from mental issues they never changed their ways and they complain and wonder why a lot of random misfortunates happen in their life. Is it karma? Idk. lol. Blessings happen for me all the time so I wonder bout that. lol It's so sad honestly when I see kids get manipulated by their parents. Most don't think they are doing anything wrong and throw the card, "You lucky you have a roof over your head." just for the child to be quiet.
One of my favorite moments in this movie is during the 'I've Got A Dream' song, at one point it cuts to Flynn/Eugene and his expression is just '... I'm in a Disney movie, aren't I?'
Thug one: (to Eugene) What about you? Eugene: I’m sorry, me? Thug two: What’s your dream? (helps Eugene down) Eugene: No… no, no, sorry boys, I don’t sing. (gets like two dozen blades aimed at his head at starts singing shortly after) I have dreams like you, no really! Just much less touchy feely.
i mean technically it could be both. ik grooming is used primarily in a sexual context, but gothel did raise rapunzel a certain way from a baby for her own selfish agenda
I don't know why people believe you can't get blondes from brunettes. Blond is a recessive gene - meaning that if both parents carry a recessive copy, their child can have blond hair. What you can't get, though, is a brunette child from two blond parents.
27:41 it helped bc she asked it to shine, the hair does what she asks according to the song. The bit she sang was "let your power shine" but the full song restores youth/heals bc it ends with turning back the clock and bringing back "what once was mine" ^^
8:33 “Stockholm syndrome is a coping mechanism to a captive or abusive situation. People develop positive feelings toward their captors or abusers over time.”
@@user-bg8dd9cp1q honestly I think the original is sadder because she knows she isn't her real mom the whole time and is trapped and isolated from what she previously knew. At least in this one she has an okay life for the first 18 years before she found out the truth.😭
Ngl, I wished they brought out a part 2, named "Detangled" or something. When Tangled and Brave ended, I felt a bitter-sweet sensation because it ended great, but there was no more.
Tangled actually has a spin off, Tangled Before Ever after which is an hour long special that takes place right after the movie then a show that follows it, Rapunzuls Tangled Adventure, which is three seasons long. It has an overarching plot too, not just random shenanigans and it’s super good. It’s got amazing voice acting, dialogue, new characters, interesting story, some REALLY good songs, and the animation is 2D which I personally preferred. If you loved this movie I would absolutely recommend the show.
People don't watch TV like that and plus this is a Disney princess movie 😅😅😅😅so he wouldn't really have interest to watch it there's a bunch of things I haven't watched
2:56 100% Agree with you, especially since in the series the rulers of Corona are so deeply connected to the Sundrop & Moonstone guardians. They could have tried to remove a flower petal, or they could have even learned the song and shared it with the entire kingdom. Also, 7:59 Gothel never telling Rapunzel about kidnapping is a really great observation & ironically, if Gothel had included it Rapunzel might never have gone with Flynn. Also, never thought about Gothel expanding the tower but that's a great thought too (although that might have drawn more unwanted to the tower's location)!
My friend had bright blonde hair her sister had bright red and their parents both had brown…lol genetics are fun….but magic flower 😂 it was literally a drop of sun light
Loved all the insightful commentary & how many things Don brought up that I haven't heard any avid Tangled fans really mention in their reactions to the movie. This is the first time I've seen a video on this channel & enjoyed Don's rational thinking, voice, & calm demeanor. Very fun movie reaction & commentary!
You should watch Spirit! I think you would really enjoy it and it has its funny moments. It’s also pretty emotional, at least to me and some others and it has a great message/story to share. It’s a great movie. And Bolt is an iconic movie from my childhood too that’s very ingrained into my memory.
Side characters in this are top tier ngl. From chameleon and Maximus, to that permanently drunk cupid granny and unicorn loving Vladimir the viking, every single fckn one of them is absolutely amazingly written. Been a while since I last watched it, was nice to revisit alongside u fam.
this film becomes so much more interesting if you skip the intro with flynns narration and start it from the titles instead. it becomes a mystery and her uncovering it hit so much harder. Great reaction, so cool to see you react to these animated classics!
at the end, rapunzel's teardrop healed eugene to parallel the drop of sunlight that created the flower in the first place! just that final bit of healing power for a happily ever after
I think the most beautiful moment in this cartoon is when Rapunzel helps the lantern rise into the sky again. This is the only lantern with the symbol of the kingdom, which was launched by her parents. Other flashlights do not have such a symbol. And she does not let go of the flashlight, which symbolizes the hope of her return. Wow
I’ve watched a couple of your videos and I love how you think of things I’ve never even considered having watched these things multiple times . I like you !
I am so happy Don was calling Zach Shazam cause i love Shazam andd it makes me happy that someone else talks about Zach being Eugene and Shazam and that his singing is so good
I don’t get how everytime mother gothel used rapunzels hair to bring her youth, she had to reuse it again and again,so when she healed Flynn’s hand, does that mean it won’t be permanent either? Or is it cause aging is just something that’s inevitable?
I mean, you also don't have to pick between 'grooming' and 'manipulation'. Gaslighting and grooming are just two examples from the manipulation-behaviour-group and typically, manipulators don't limit themselves to just one subcategory of manipulation.
The comment about lights appearing on her birthday always makes me laugh, as I have a meteor shower peak on my birthday, and it just seem totally normal now to just go out and watch shooting stars while lit =D
this movie raised me watched bought 300 times and loved to watch it again with ur reaction ur to funny! it was cool to see the things u commented on in the movie that i hadn't thought about
Fun fact, Flynn is, like, in his thirties or something to Rapunzel's nineteen. This gives their relationship the second largest age gap in Disney. The biggest is Milo and Kida in Atlantis The Lost Empire. Milo is, like, twenty or thirty or something, and Kida is 8,000+.
Actually with this one google is wrong when you look it up, Eugene turns 26 in tangled the series after 3-4 years have passed from the movie. He is 22/23 and Rapunzel is 18
Also someone probably mentioned it, she was born after her mother consumed the ~entire~ flower in tea, so it stands to reason that all of her was magical, and the assumption was that it was only her hair, because it turned gold. (It comes from the fairytale when he fell into thorns and was blinded and her tears healed him).
I recommend watching the Rapunzel Animated Series!! It follows after this movie! However, it's not 3d. Its art style is actually in Rapunzel's art style in her diary.❤❤ More characters also!!
I think he was thinking about rabbits and hares. Hares are longer and bigger, and they have longer hind legs. They kinda look like cracked out rabbits because they look slimmer because of their fur. 😂😂😂
6:20 I saw one video where the guys were looking for an answer to this question - a lock of hair about this thick 👌(inside the ring, not between the fingers-) can lift a person. But Rapunzel uses it all. So yes, it's not hard for her.
that`s one of my favs)) and now you can see why i like movie so much. a lot of good humor, great characters, Rapunzel herself of course, such a sweetie, talented, kindhearted and gorgeous girl, she have a lot of specific individual features, her own behavior (not just doll-like princes as usual). and Eugene`s pretty interesting too (not just a male handsome guy like other Disney princes, i mean he`s not a prince originaly but you know what i mean, he became the prince after marriage), he have his own arc. story has short clip about their marriage, necessarily watch it by yourself, it`s super funny)) i really liked Max, super funny character who jokes even without words, only visual humor. even not main characters are great. even Rapunzel`s chameleon also funny enough. Gothel`s interesting villain, she`s creepy but at the same time she`s cool, very smart, good actress in motherhood playing, i like her songs the most here i think, really great songs. and i like her voice a lot
I just watched your Frozen reaction after this and wanted to tell you that in Frozen, when Anna is singing For the First Time in Forever, the gates open and you can see flynn and rapunzel walking in for the coronation.
