My family: "Hey, let's watch It's a Wonderful Life for the 100th time for Christmas. Or Miracle on 34th Street... or..." Me: "Or we could watch Die Hard, because it's a Christmas movie" My family: "Is not" Me: "It takes place at Christmas, it has a tree and music, and they play Ode to Joy, so of course it is." My family: "Oh, okay" And now I never have to watch It's a Wonderful Life ever again, all because Die Hard is a Christmas movie. So anyone who wants to argue the point, realize how you are screwing this up for the rest of us, and keep your mouth shut. Thank you.
It's a Wonderful Life isn't a terrible movie. Then again I only watch it once every 10-15 years. Personally I prefer Arsenic and Old Lace(I know it's more of a Halloween movie) though I do enjoy IAWL. I also tend to prefer the newer Miracle on 34th to the original. (Yeah I'm weird like that) Yes DH is DEFINITELY a Christmas Movie!!!
"Welcome to the party, pal!" It isn't Christmas in my house until Hans Gruber is THROWN off the top of Nakatomi Plaza. 😎 🎄 Fun Fact: In 2007, Bruce Willis donated John McClane's undershirt to the Smithsonian Museum. Making Lemonade Fact: The scene where McClane (Bruce Willis) falls down a shaft was a mistake by the stuntman, who was supposed to grab the first vent, as it originally was planned. He slipped and continued to fall, but the shot was used anyway; it was edited together with one where McClane grabs the next vent down as he falls. First Face-Off Fact: The scene in which Gruber (Alan Rickman) and McClane (Bruce Willis) meet for the first time was inserted into the script after Alan Rickman was found to be proficient at mimicking American accents. The filmmakers had been looking for a way to have the two characters meet prior to the climax and capitalized on Rickman's talent. Casting Notes Fact: Alan Rickman nearly passed up the role of Hans Gruber, which ended up being his first film role. He had only arrived in Hollywood two days earlier and was appalled by the idea of his first role being the villain in an action film. To a degree, Rickman was right to be concerned considering his performance as Hans Gruber was so hailed that the actor had to struggle being typecast as a player of villains for much of his career. Location Location Fact: The fictional Nakatomi Plaza is the headquarters of 20th Century Studios, so the studio could use one of its own buildings and didn't have to hold back on stunts and action sequences. While Jeb Stuart was writing the screenplay, he did a tour of the building, and immediately incorporated some of the locations and objects he found there into his script as set pieces. The company charged itself rent for the use of the then-unfinished building. Some of the middle floors were occupied by legal and administrative departments, so only empty floors were used for filming. Still, the filming of scenes that involved gunfire had to be postponed until after hours because some of the employees from the active floors started to complain about the noise.

"A man tries to reunite with his estranged family over the holidays and shenanigans ensue." >That's the plot to a tonne of Christmas movies, so damn right Die Hard is a Christmas movie.
Christmas plays more into the plot of Die Hard than it does for It's a Wonderful Life. Christmas is John's motivation for the trip to L.A., and the reason anyone was in the high rise office building at night. Without Christmas, there would have been no hostages, and no hero. Uncle Billy could have lost the $8k bank deposit at any time of year.
Her name is Holly as in Christmas holly. Limmo driver is Argyle as in argyle stocking. Hans is a prolific theif, which is a nod to "Hans" Christian Anderson, a most prolific Christmas writer. There's Christmas music everywhere. It "snows" money bonds. FBI promises proverbial presents in the form of a swift conclusion by flying their sleigh (helicopter) over roof tops, all meanwhile the true bringer of gifts we discover is not the mythical fbi Santa, but Dad. The very last line of the movie literally tells us what kind of movie we're in. "If this is your idea of Christmas, I gotta be here for new years." Cue credits and...Christmas music.
Al Leong taking the Crunch bar pre-shootout is one of my favorite little moments. I think of it whenever I have one 😅 He's always a treat when he pops up.
wow that's a bit early for a Christmas movie... I remember when this came out, I was so happy to hear Run DMC's Christmas in Hollis.... I owned it on cassette and it was among my favorite songs at the time
Kevin is correct. Die Hard is one of those few films in history that raised the bar for its genre. Another film with this type of effect is The Usual Suspects
Now here are two more action/Christmas movies. Original Lethal Weapon,Mel Gibson& The Long Kiss Goodnight/ Geena Davis, Samuel Jackson.. Both are excellent& entertaining.
John McClane's shirt is on display in the Smithsonian National Museum of American History "'Die Hard' is a quintessential Hollywood action movie representing not only the classic good-versus-evil struggle but also showcasing the explosive ingenuity that characterizes American film," said museum director Brent D. Glass.
1. I loved the fashion nostalgia tour that you did even if it made me feel HELLA old. 2. Yes that's him (For almost all of the actors that you identified) 3. Yes that definitely LOOKS like him and I'll never be able to see it differently now. 4. This is 100% a Christmas movie (And as you say (Paraphrased) "It's after Thanksgiving now so we are officially in the 'Christmas' season."
Never forget this flick came out the same year I joined Her Majesty’s forces 🇬🇧🤣they wondered if Bruce could transition from Moonlighting to movies 😎👍”Happy trails Hans” 🤣fantastic thx as always 😎🇬🇧👍
The line I liked was "Do I sound like I am ordering a pizza?" I got a movie reaction suggestion for you it's one of my favorites, The Final Countdown (1980) The U.S.S. Nimitz goes back to December 6th, 1941. It's filmed on the Nimitz. It's like Top Gun meets Back to the Future.
@@ItsTaraAnn Thanks! The music at the moment Malibu Barbie pops up at the end was a previously unused cue from James Horner's Aliens score. You may have seen Malibu Barbie before in Witness (1985) starring Harrison Ford, Kelly McGillis & Danny Glover. Hart Bochner, son of famous and prolific actor Lloyd Bochner, was the love interest in Supergirl (1984).
Once again, your smile and laughter are contagious. This was one of my all-time favorite action movies I still say yippee in yaa...... At inappropriate times. Tell Kevin he is not alone when it comes to uncovered feet. Thank you for another fun review.
1. Karl/Alexander Godunov😇 also played in "The Money Pit" with Tom Hanks and "Witness" with non-Indiana/Solo Harrison Ford. He had a very interesting story. 2. Robinson/Paul Gleason 😇 seems to always play buttheads. I.e. "Trading Places" and "The Breakfast Club". 3. John will have a place to stay tonight after all.😍😋😈 3. Another fun Willis movie that have similar events is "The Last Boy Scout". They drop more F-bombs that you can shake a stick at. Including a little girl. 4. Christmas movie? YES. It takes place at a Christmas party. 5. Missing you Bruce.☹
I’m the same way about shoes, when I was around 9 or 10 I was running across an open field and I landed on a little stump. It went straight into the bottom of my foot. It hurt more than anything that I can remember at least for a 9 year old
Very possibly. Alexander Gudunov was a lead ballet dancer with the Moscow Bolshoi theater, who defected from the Soviet Union in the 70's. He appeared as a non-villain in a Harrison Ford thriller "Witness" as an Amish guy.
Christmas movie or not, you can watch it any time. It premiered in the middle of summer being a so called "summer blockbuster", and a few essential Christmas movies has done this. For example Miracle on 34th Street, one of the most Christmassy movies ever. By the way, I'm in the Christmas movie camp when it comes to this flick.
Reginald Van Johnson theory. RVJ played a cop in ghostbusters. He was traumatized and moved to LA. After the Nakatomi place event, her completely lost his mind and had a mental breakdown. Carl Winslow is a delusion that he is suffering in a mental hospital.
My 1st reaction watching you.... had a good time, gunna check out what else you have done on here. on different subject, you need a FILL light for your recordings
We are working on getting better gear, in fact, the new camera just showed up and lights are ready.. so next video should be a giant leap forward for our quality
😂 I love how Tara's more concerned about the guy stealing an ordinary Candy Bar... Than this major criminal gang that are stealing $640 Million in Negotiable Bearer Bonds... 😂 Women's typical priorities concerning a Chocolate Bar... Isn't that right Tara!?. 👌🍫😂
Loved the reaction, Thanks for letting me watch with you. BTW if you like Balky, you should check out Second Sight, it pairs him with Dan from night court, it is most excellent fun!
Totally with Kevin about feet protection. Even as a kid I didn't like going barefoot. Absolutely a Christmas movie no matter what some people may say. "Yippy-ky-yay MF" became of the greatest catch phrases ever from a movie. A really good earlier movie with Alan Rickman is "The January Man" with Kevin Kline.
"Die Hard": A major change in the Action movie genre. On the flight from NYC to California, "John McClane" finds this song: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-wYHleFFhlFk.html "John McClane" isn't a muscular "Rambo clone," is a working class guy like limousine driver Arglye, has moments of Fear/Introspection/Doubt, takes damage, and is Dead Man Walking by the last quarter of the movie. In short, he's the everyman who has to be "that guy," which makes him likeable to men and women.
If you think this is a Christmas movie than you got to watch a good Thanksgiving movie, Rocky! There's a mention of Thanksgiving and there's even a turkey that gets thrown outside!
To answer the big question if Die Hard is a xmas movie, Im going to say what the star of the movie always answers to that. Die Hard is not a xmas movie, Die Hard is a Bruce Willis movie. My opinion on the matter is that Die Hard isnt a xmas movie but a movie set during xmas times. Die Hard 2 - Die Harder is a xmas movie.
There are only two of the Die Hard series movies that I think are worth watching ..... "Die Hard" and "Live Free or Die Hard." I have nothing but disdain for "Die Hard 2."
03:53, cheeseball? more like dick cheese to me, any way the more I watch this movie the more I realize that writing assholes in movies has virtually become a dying art.
@@ItsTaraAnn I didn't watch it a ton but probably 10 or more times. I still get fishbone singing Jamaica Ska stuck in my head from time to time lol. You probably went from this to binge watching cry baby back then lol
Still not a Christmas movie. Christmas is a MacGuffin. The plot of the movie is a cop thwarting a robbery. This has nothing to do with Christmas. If you changed Christmas to any other holiday or event, the movie would be the same.
