FIRST TIME WATCHING The Breakfast Club and I am blown away! 

A perfect coming of age story about a group of teenagers getting detention on a Saturday afternoon try to figure out how to deal with everyday life.

So, you'll notice the phrase I hate mondays carved into the wall in the opening of the film. This is interesting when you know the origin. It's in quotes because it was a song title. But, where the band got the phrase from is the disturbing part. In the 70s a teen girl woke up one Monday morning and with the rifle she got for Christmas did aim out her front window at the elementary school across the street. When arrested and asked why all she said was "I hate mondays."

All of the actors in this film were members of a group called “The Brat Pack”. They were a group of young actors, which included Demi Moore and Rob Lowe, who were in several films together. Many of which were written by John Hughes.

I’m glad you watched this. That was a full thought out script. The actors were perfect. It’s a deep movie with a lesson that I think everyone should learn… honesty. I think every classroom should show this film to the students at the very beginning of the school year. Even if only one student gets the message, it would be worth it. I was a junior in HS when this came out . These John Hughes movies were timed perfectly for my friends and I. We literally saw every one the night it was released. I can’t imagine HS without John Hughes.. or my life for that matter.. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅&BTW.. FINALLY! a proper reaction to this film !! Someone FINALLY gets it. In all the ways Intended. Kids HAVE changed over the generations. This is due, in large part, to society in general and parents changing. The issues that kids have to go through and deal with haven’t changed. Parents may remember having to deal with those issues but may have forgotten how it felt while dealing. What we do know is, you can get through it and life goes on

Great reaction! The high school where this was filmed was about 25 miles from where I lived at the time and it was filmed the year after I graduated. And the stereotypes were real although obviously exaggerated for the movie. I had probably a bit of each of them in me, as it was for probably many. But this is on my list of best movies ever made.

Your personal thoughts were a little confusing to me. You understood the typical teen things perfectly, the difficulty with adults, the pressures of Teenage life, and that was awesome. Then suddenly, one second you were condemning the teacher for being antagonistic, harsh and a bully... then the next, you were congratulating Bender for bullying Claire while saying sexual crap and angry at The Jock for standing up for her. Woke, I think was the silly word you used, I think. Yeah, that was weird. otherwise, pretty good reaction.

Let me tell ya, it was a pretty barren landscape back then. All 'we' had before this was Fast Times At Ridgemont High... maybe even a Bad News Bears if ya wanna push it, so yeah, this was a welcome flick for its time. Emilio Estevez would go on to direct him and his dad in The Way (2010), a worthy entry for YOU specifically, good sir, I think you'd really like it. You don't even have to do a reaction vid, just a viewing on yer own time with the mrs... just kick back and it'll do all the work ;)

On the topic of 80s movies, think you would ever check out "Heathers"? It's considered a cult classic. If not, you should at least check out the songs that it's theatre musical has, they're really good.

It's hard to overstate how important this movie is in the - coming of age - genre. While it won't ever make any top 10 movie lists, it's impact on a generation is almost unmatched

I had wonderful teachers. Allison is my favorite character. Also this is some of the best music of a motion picture. It really shows how the 80’s really sounded

Loved this movie ever since I first watched it as a teenager. I definitely identified with Allison as the quiet "goth" girl in school lol. 🖤 This movie always makes me wish I was alive in the 80's. Just missed it as a 1992 baby.

I love this movie it was done so beautifully the writing the acting everything about it this is such a great movie. They better not try to remake this cuz it's already perfect. It's like The Wizard of Oz I just heard they're trying to remake that and I don't understand why it's been over a hundred years and that movie is still perfect.

i don’t like the way you think that how bender was acting towards claire was okay. i really see you get what it’s like being a teen with these awful teachers but sticking up for him that bully - in the worst way imaginable for a teenage girl is upsetting. i truly believe that most men wouldn’t understand anyways unless they had to go through it. me saying this doesn’t make me “woke”, i seriously think you need to rethink some of your thoughts here, it can be extremely damaging, scary and traumatic for girls who go through this. these crude sexual advances aren’t anything to be made light of.

I was in high school when this movie came out it is a great representation of Our Generation.

I really identify with Brian and Allison. I was sort of a combination of the 2, with a lot of hyper-religiosity in my dad to go with it. It was ugly. My dad never ignored me. He stifled me if it didn't fit his agenda. He was always there.

I watched this movie for the first time only a few years ago. In high school I wasn't like any of the characters, but I frequently stood up for people who were. I used to skip school to run a business I was trying to start. This movie was well written and the characters were developed correctly and at the right pace.

you were wrong about bender. in tghe US those guys dont change..they become mechanics and such.

You obviously enjoyed it a lot, and that is aces in my book. To me, I don't think that they're any less broken after The Breakfast Club, but at least they know that there are people in the same boat as they are. And even if, times get harder, and they can't get the support they need in their own friend group, now they know they have extended people who are not to different from them, that they can speak with. The Nerd enjoyed learning and being smart, The jock enjoyed excelling at his sport, The Princess enjoyed the life of a pretty/rich girl, I believe that Bender didn't necessarily like having to be the tough guy but he Did enjoy his role as tough guy, just as the basket case chose her path, she was just unfortunate to not be very good at making friends (I knew tons of people like her in HS and they never had problems having/being friends). We can all be different and enjoy our spot, yet Still have Real Problems. A friend group can raise you up or hold you down. We Must get along with All People. We ALL need each other! I was a teenager when this movie came out, I, as an adult now I recognize that the problems are virtually the same, it's just that now we are better at internalizing, embracing or ignoring them. The vice principal was around teenagers almost every day of his career/life, so he began to Feel inside like a teen, spewing confusing emotions and defensive confrontation with the kids. Hopefully the talk w/Carl and Brian's letter gave him some understanding of it.

One of my all time favorite films. Regarding the principle...I think people who gravitate towards positions of power, tend to be bad people. or get turned into bad people. I've noticed good people in management positions trying to do the right thing for the workers underneath them, but unfortunately they don't last, because the greedy CEO's above them basically want slave labor, so they can buy their multiple yachts, private jets and take personal trips to outer space.

Good as this one is...maybe consider NOT showing your kids a certain _other_ John Hughes movie...one by the name of Sixteen Candles...

see, youre missing where the problem started..b y letting kids get away with crap with no punishment (timeouts, etc), they have no respect for elders. I have respect for older generations learned the old school way. The cause of problems are the millennials parents. They overprotected them and they were not ready for the cruel world. Generation X was a superior generation. We invented all of your technology but yet, we did things outdoors. Feelings are irreklevant in the real world and they are finding that out. In the US we have laws protecting free speech-none for hurt feelings. There is a reason for that.
