Firearms instructor here. This movie is NOTORIOUS in the gun community, due to the improper weapons handling on set (the malfunction is called a Squib Fire) resulting in Brandon Lee's death. What isn't as known though is how his stunt double stepped up to finish the movie in Lee's place. That stunt double was Chad Stahelski, the director of the John Wick movies. In case you were wondering why they train so much for those movies? That is why.

The Crow was so ahead of its time - thinking Blade, Dark City and the Matrix all followed this using similar set pieces and tone. The table scene even resembles the joker in Dark Knight. Awful lot of hard work went into this film and utterly tragic it took Brandon.

@@Thronewatcher I think it was maybe more from Proyas music video days. Artistically I think one area it certainly differs is they intended to shoot The Crow in black and white but they didn’t have the budget so it ended up being shot using sepia filters, careful colour control on set and colour timed out hence an absence of colour bar the flashbacks. I get some tonality with the ‘89 Batman but The Crow felt far more grown up. For example the roof top idea alone was in Dark City whose set was sold to the Matrix prod where we see Trinity in similar shots to Eric.

Most of it, not just the final bits. He was actually shot and killed during the pawn shop scene early on. They used dress rehearsal, stunt doubles, and reused cut scenes to finish the movie, which was pretty impressive and a hell of a way to honor him, rather than just scraping the entire project.

I watched an interview with Brandon Lee where he explains how a burglar once entered his home at night and he stared chasing him around the house. Brandon said that there were posters of his father and him on the walls around the house and there were moments where they stopped to catch their breath and the thief was like... wait is that you? He had no idea he picked the worst possible house to break into! Brandon said he pulled out a knife in the end and he disarmed, blocked and held him down with a holding technique until the police arrived! Brandon got cut on his arm but it wasn't a big deal he said!

Yes, Heath Ledger's portrayal of the Joker in The Dark Knight was partially influenced by The Crow. The movie is about a musician who is murdered by a gang the night before his wedding, and then rises from the grave as the Crow, an avenger. Brandon Lee, who plays the Crow, dies during filming at the same age as Ledger. Lee was instrumental in making the adaptation more faithful to the comics, but his death led to major changes to the film.

Michael Massee, the actor playing the bad guy leader, was the unfortunate man who fired the gun that killed Brandon. No one knew there was a fragment of a prop bullet still inside it, and that shrapnel was enough to sever two arteries. Masse took a long sabbatical from acting to deal with what he had accidently done, and even then wouldn't talk about it publicly until 2005. It was supposed to be the scene where Brandon's character was killed in the apartment, before becoming The Crow.

JASON SCOTT LEE played the role of BRUCE LEE in movie that was arranged according to Bruce’s wife Lynda Lee called “DRAGON: The Bruce Lee Story.”Also JASON happens to be a year younger than BRANDON who was born Nov 1966 an Hawaiian-Chinese descent.

This is Top 3 best revenge movies, EVER! The cool part too is, The Crow wasn't there for the whole gang at the table, he just needed Skank. But the gangsters attacked him, so he fought back. He only got revenge on the ones he was wronged by, not just bad people.

This wasn't his breakout role though although probably his most famous largely probably due to how he died.

City of Angels was fine, but it was just checking 'sequel' checkboxes off. The deaths were more elaborate - almost distractingly so. It was like they were trying to take the first movie and dial it up to 11, sort of like the Final Destination series. It was fine for a revenge action movie, but everything it did the first movie did with more style. When the best thing to come out of the movie is Hole's cover of "Gold Dust Woman"... yeah. The others didn't even have that much going for them.

Brandon was shot in the church scene, but they didn't put it in the movie of course. The movie was almost wrapped up, they decided to finish the movie later by using archive shots and some CG. Anyway, Bruce didn't die on set.

This is now the fourth different scene ive heard that he died in. The pawn shop, funboy, the table scene, and now the church
@ravenstromdans

My understanding is that Brandon was actually shot during the flashback scenes of the attack in the apartment. The actor holding the gun was the guy who played Funboy and he spent the rest of his career riddled with guilt over Brandon's death.

If Brandon Lee had not passed away, I would have met him because I met James O’Barr, the author of The Crow, at the 1993 Heroes Convention in Charlotte, NC. The Crow was filmed in Wilmington, NC, just a few hours from Charlotte.

The Most Popular Crow ever Jimmy the Raven Jimmy the Raven was a raven actor who appeared in over 1,000 feature films from the 1930s to the 1950s. He was trained by Hollywood animal trainer Curly Twiford, who found the baby raven in a nest in the Mojave Desert in 1934. Jimmy was known for his exceptional intelligence and was able to perform various tricks, such as typing and riding a small motorcycle. Jimmy's most notable roles include Uncle Billy’s pet in the movie “It’s a Wonderful Life” (1946) and the crow that landed on the Scarecrow in “The Wizard of Oz” (1939). He also appeared in many other films, including “You Can’t Take It with You” (1938), “The Enchanted Valley” (1948), and “Bill and Coo” (1948). Jimmy's career spanned over two decades, and he worked with many famous directors, including Frank Capra, who cast him in every film he made after 1938. Jimmy's last film was “Three Ring Circus” in 1954, and his subsequent whereabouts and death are unknown. However, it is possible that he was replaced by another raven named Jimmy Jr., as mentioned in an article published in 1958.

I remember seeing this movie when I was 10 years old, my dad took it to my house, he was also a fan of Bruce Lee, so much so that he practiced Jiujitsu in his youth because of his movies (And later it greatly influenced my decision to practice Karate in my adolescence) I remember loving this movie. And like Ash, when my dad revealed Brandon's tragic end to me, I was left with a feeling of emptiness. Classic and a memoir from The Hollywood that dared to be original. The Crow could easily belong to this era of comic book-inspired cinema and is far above what is currently being done in that genre.

Trivia for you, the awesome scene where Eric busts in the church doors, is actually CGI. One of the first effective uses of the technology in film. It was one of several key scenes that were not completely filmed at the time of his death.

Ash you can look up Eric’s guitar solo. someone made a cut of both scenes when he plays and shreds on the roof. It’s so good I wish it was on Spotify. T-Bird’s death was the only one where I felt some kind of emotion. When he realizes the man he killed had come back for him and out of panic desperation he started reciting the bit of poetry he read a year prior. Fantastic acting from David Patrick Kelly. “Abashed the devil stood and felt how awful goodness is”
