FAQ: (Questions that are asked to me OFTEN, will answer here)
Q: Why is the video in TWO Parts?
A: Copyright reasons. I can show more of the movie to you guys within multiple parts. Depending on the movie I might do THREE parts or sometimes just ONE.
Q: Why is a small portion of the video completely muted?
A: Copyright reasons. Sometimes I get hit with copyright claims AFTER the video has already been posted, my only choice is to refute the claim but if RU-vid denies it, I have to either take down the video or mute the small portion they are claiming. If the video has been up for a while, it is much easier for me to mute this small portion in the YT studio and then unmute it months later after people aren't watching the video as much.
Q: Why is the movie not as loud as I want it to be, why can't you show more of it uncut?
A: Copyright reasons. Notice a pattern here? Most of your questions will likely be answered with some type of copyright related reason.
Q: Why is the movie footage flipped?
A: Again, copyright reasons. I am watching the movie the normal way, it is only flipped for the video.

The thing about the "psycho" kids is that at the end of the day, they're still children being forced to fight to the death against their will. The books don't go too in-depth with it but a lot of the "psycho" kids have been training their whole lives in a special academy for the sole purpose of volunteering as tributes when they're 18. None of those kids really wants to be in that arena.
@TheCourtsOfLove
@TheCourtsOfLove 2 года назад
Yeah, their entire lives where essentially built on the foundation of them volunteering themselves to die or win into the Hunger Games for others entertainment, it's really sad when you think about it - Their only purpose in life is to provide entertainment to the Capitol, the manipulate and glorify them to the slaughter. Kinda-felt bad for Cato at the end.
@vadalia3860
@vadalia3860 2 года назад
@@TheCourtsOfLove Those kids are essentially sacrifices- lambs led to the slaughter by their own parents & other adults in their district. But I can't fault the adults either. Some kid IS going to be chosen no matter what they do. But if they set things up the way they have, it makes it far more likely one of the kids from their district will make it back home. AND their district will get more prestige, money (from the victor's winnings), and connections in the capital that could help future tributes. It's cold and calculating to play such a proactive role in the deaths of their own children but there's a reason there are more survivors from those districts than the others, so at the end of the day it might be kinder in the long run.
@toukie
@toukie Год назад
And that's what people have trouble understanding. In the Capital, it is being played like the districts WANT to participate, they WANT to fight in honor of their district, they look up to the tributes like they are heroes. Sort of like in Roman times with the Gladiators. And the Careers don't help, training and volunteering and everything, and then the mentors have to "suck up" to get sponsors.

Obviously the books do the story justice more cause you hear how Katniss’ immediate reaction to Peeta confessing his love for her was complete skepticism and denial. And it’s a great reason why these movies are so much more of an action series with a love story as only a part of the plot. Also they explain it better in the books, that the tributes who teamed up with each other are from certain districts with more advantages and loyalty to the Capitol than the poorer ones. They’re called “Career” tributes and are trained to fight as kids, almost always volunteer as tributes, and usually group into these alliances knowing that eventually they’d have to turn on each other. Clearly insane and evil people, so that’s just some of the things the books are better able to convey.

@@ckobo84 Exactly, which is why books are almost always better than the movies in virtually any story series. You still get to visualize the scenes the way they appear on screen but books have the page length and time to explain concepts the movies are forced to gloss over. with cato at the end you have to remember that from when he was a child, he was trained to kill and the only purpose he was taught was volunteering for the hunger games. So him saying "is that what they want?… it‘s the only thing i know how to do“ just shows the moment he realizes that he was raised to have an entertaining death/victory and with the gamemaker changing the rules, he knew that they wanted katniss and peeta to win
@Emma_14

my favourite part abut the hunger games is the irony of "May the odds be ever in your favour" because we're shown throughout this whole movie how unfair the games can be i.e, the game makers manipulating the games with fire/rules/dogs or how in order for poor districts to sustain their lives and families they can offer up more times their entered into a reaping in return for oil and grain. Gale had his name in 42 times during the reaping. But my ALL TIME favourite moment is when we see Cato come to the realization that for his whole life, he thought the games were his to win. He trained, he volunteered, he was likeable, THE ODDS WERE ALWAYS IN HIS FAVOUR. unfortunately he found out the hard way that when in the arena his odds were equal to everyone else because the game makers saw him as any other tribute. He was manipulated to think his life matter when in reality, the odds were never in his favour. I could watch a whole movie just from Cato's POV. His story is so sad.

I don't mind the shakey cam aesthetic, but I'm glad we're out of the 2002-2012 era where things went off the rails a little bit. It's a cheap way to make a scene more "exciting" and more "realistic." Sometimes that style can really work for a movie, or even a specific scene (the bloodbath scene is an example where I think the shakey cam works well to reinforce both the physical and psychological trauma that's occurring on screen). But in my opinion, it's a little overdone in this movie. I remember going to the theater to see this with a group of friends (who were all big fans of the books) and having to sit in the 3rd-4th row. Let me tell you, every time there was a shot that looked like it had been filmed on a tripod ... it was like being lost in the desert and then having someone hand you a glass of cold water. I did still enjoy the movie though.

You typically cannot be picked twice for the hunger games, once you’re a victor your name is removed from the reaping. I don’t think you caught that Haymitch was their advisor as he was the last victor of the hunger games from district 12. So no matter what happens from here, it is implied that they may have to mentor future kids reaped for the hunger games. A great reaction! So glad you liked it!

I had never heard of these books before I saw this film when it came out. The concept was fascinating to me, so I bought the books. Two points of interest: 1) Katniss is the narrator, so we see this world not just through her eyes but also through her flawed understanding of what's really going on; and 2) It's written in the present tense, i.e. "I get up. I walk to Prim's bed" and so on. It's jarringly unnatural for the first page or two, but you quickly get used to it, and it rams home the point that she doesn't know what happens next, let alone the end of the story.
@MinReiSakato
@MinReiSakato 2 года назад
This is an important point because it is exceptionally unclear how katniss feels about both peeta and gale. The movies kinda hammed up the romance aspect more than the books because to katniss, she was only worried about survival, getting out, getting her family out until the very end. Of course she cares about Gale, her long time friend and the person who saw to her family when she couldn't, and peeta, the guy she trauma bonds with as well as rue and some others over the series. But is she in love? Really hard to say. She doesn't focus on that at all so... who knows? Not her and therefore not us. Plus we don't know if peeta is being genuine or playing it up for the games because katniss doesn't know. We don't know if gale has serious feelings because katniss doesn't know. In the books romance was almost 100% for the media, for the sponsors, for survival in her mind but in the movies it makes it seem like she might actually love them more than she did.

this is a year later. But yes.. Katniss is a highly unreliable narrator. We see all of it thorugh her eyes, process things and witness a big political statement through a 17 year old poor girl with very basic education. I am not saying she is wrong, but she is unreliable. She does not understand the capitol at all. But if you look at it and really think of it, even now we humans do absolutely cruel things and its minimal effort to stop it apart from a small group of very passionate people. Take fur harvesting for fur coats and stuff. Mink farms are absolutely hell, animals are often slayen off their skin alive because humane euthanization is expensive. Human trafficking with children is a thing in the real world as well, and people turn a blind eye, because why? because thinking too much about it hurts too much. The Capitol isnt evil, but it is highly corrupt. Even Snow isnt EVIL, he was raised in these ideals. And in Songbirds and snakes, where we follow Snow's teen years, he is litterally in a military academy. He is brainwashed himself, but also highly intelligent, so he does what he genuinly belives is right, because he whole heartedly belive that without this power, and without the hunger games, humans would destroy eachother, District and Capitol alike would all be basically one big arena, we would innihalate eachother if it wasnt for this power. That is his genuine belif. He thinks this is the better of 2 evils, this is what keeps order in his world. But he did not agree with how the tributes were treated, so he changed it. Before Snow got to power, the tributes were travelling in cattle cars of the train, and thrown into a cage in the zoo, and not fed for several days until their fight. People came to watch them in the zoo like animals until the big fight day. I really ejoy that this world isnt evil vs good, it IS a very complicated history with a very deep political and psycological theme. It does not feel superficial, and once you see it through not just Katniss's eyes, you see how we came to the point we are at. Snow is a genuinly complicated character, but through the 17 year old girl's eyes, we experience all through her.

Yea the reason Gale didn’t volunteer with her is because in district 12 people starve all the time. It’s the poorest district and Katniss’s family was days away from starving to death when Pete gave her the bread that saved their lives (which is why she feels indefinitely indebted to him). It was this act of kindness that inspired her to go out and hunt in the woods illegally. This all occurred because Katniss’s father died in a mine explosion. Gale’s father died in the same explosion, leaving a pregnant wife, Gale, and two of Gale’s brothers. So he, like Katniss, became the head of the household and breadwinner. They both independently ventured out into the woods to hunt. They ran into each other and begrudgingly, over time, became allies. Sharing knowledge and tools and spoils to ensure both of their families could eat. So they had a pact to look after each other’s families. They agreed that if one of them was reaped for the Games, the other would look after their family. So if Gale volunteered with her, he’d be leaving both his own family and Katnisses family to starve to death. In the books she states she is grateful Gale didn’t volunteer. Plus it would mean one of them would have to kill the other

The hand signal they give Katniss after she volunteers for her sister means “goodbye”. In the books, it says that they do this in funerals. I don’t think they thought she would make it back. But they admired what she did for her sister, and were saying goodbye to her. In the books, even Peeta’s dad sees Katniss right after the reaping and tells her that he will make sure that Prim doesn’t starve. 8:27 yeah but it wasn't like that before, in the ballad of songbirds and snakes (i think 10th Hunger Games) they threw in a train were they were all together so they could hurt each other and then they lived in a zoo they didn't had food and the Capitolans were laughing at them and at the same time they were their only chance of eating. So many of them died before the HG and who left were dehydrated, hungry and even sick. The arena was something like a Colosseum, so still no food and sponsor's could only send you water.

when I saw you were gonna be reacting to these movies I got really excited! Hunger games is one of my absolute favourite franchises ever and I feel like a lot of people don't realise their beaty because they can be viewed as "teenager movies" but they have a lot of deep thoughts in them. The story really kicks off in the second movie so I'm looking forward to seeing your views on the rest

I loved watching your reaction to this! Especially with you not knowing anything about the series before. I was OBESESSED with both the books and the movies when they came out and I think they did a good job as an adaptation. Catching Fire is both my favorite book and movie! Also the Mutts (the bear/dog creatures) are even more haunting and scary in the book. In the book all the mutts had the eyes of the tributes that had died. So excited to see you continue!

Glad you are watching these; this is an amazing series! One of the points from the books that is touched on in the movies but presented far more clearly in the books is that Katniss not only does not have a crush on Peeta, she is not really interested in anyone romantically. Since her father's death, she and her hunting skills have been solely focused on keeping herself, her mom and her sister alive so they didnt starve to death. So she really doesn't understand crushes or actually being interested in a relationship at all. She and Gale are barely friends and basically united to combine their hunting skills to feed their families. Gale's father died in the same mining accident that killed Katniss, father. So the "love triangle" actually...isn't. Though of course things do shift over the span of the movies , but that's where we start edging into spoilers! I enjoyed your reaction and I look forward to going on this journey with you, because the first movie here is amazing and the following sequels just keep getting better! Enjoy

I mean, don't get me wrong I LOVE a badass (I would say Katniss is also a badass here), but I don't enjoy badasses when they are completely flawless. Whether that flaw is a physical, mental, or emotional one, I feel like they don't seem human unless they have at least one flaw that fits into the story. I would argue most of those characters you mentioned do have some flaws. Dumbledore's being effectively shown in the last few films.
@TransparentEclipse
@TransparentEclipse 2 года назад
@@MovieFusion I suppose, but their flaws all have to do with very mental or emotional things. Katniss has both physical and mental AND emotional flaws. I do love katniss in this movie tho, definitely a badass. And I respect that opinion a lot, I enjoy when characters are flawed for the most part as well, just not when it’s the stereotypical old wise mentor that helps the protagonist out. Haymitch would be the example here, but frankly I don’t think he fits very well into that category lmfao. And I love woody so I don’t really care what haymitch does, I’ll love him either way. Thanks for having a discussion with me, hope u enjoy the other movies, the second one is my favorite of the 4

cato and the other careers aren’t “psychos” and they don’t just kill because they’re evil. did you pay attention at all? haymitch explained why they’re like that. from a young age, they are sent to special academies to train specifically for competing in the hunger games. from a young age, they’re taught to kill and are told that their only role and value in the world is to kill. they don’t know any different. they’re just kids who’ve been mercilessly abused. that’s what cato was talking about at the end. that scene isn’t about him being a “psycho.” it’s about him finally having the realization that the only thing he ever knew was killing and his life had no other value. it’s incredibly sad.

@@MovieFusion yeah but only the flash is fast enough to take out 4 career tributes in a couple seconds cause that cannon will go off immediately, so peeta may be able to take out two but the other two will get him, plus peeta is a pacifist he’ll really only kill in self defense or in defense of someone he loves, if katniss was on the ground and they were attacking her than he’d be actively tryna kill them

Gale is played by the youngest Hemsworth brother. Cato comes from a district that spends full time training for the Hunger Games. They grow up expecting to kill or be killed. There was a massive war, and the Capital district won. They do these games to remind all of the other districts that they're under the Capital's control and to try to destroy their morale. I could never decide if Peeta and Katniss's shipper name was Peenis or Katpiss.

on the 12-18 range thing. Starting at age 12 you can put your name in an extra time to gain extra food for your family (reason it is called Hunger Games). Each time you do so this your name is added one time, so most 12 year old do not have their name in often so the chance of them being picked is VERY low. As you get older and you volunteered to have extra food rations the more chance you are the name that is chosen.
@maizen1335
@maizen1335 2 года назад
The reaping system is a little more complex than they ever get into in the movies, but basically the older and poorer you are, the more likely your name gets chosen. It's also implied that it gets rigged sometimes so that the relatives of past victors get reaped, for the tv ratings of course

I don't know if someone answered you or not but you asked how does Peeta saying he had a crush on her made her look weak. But here's what I think. Something they don't touch on that much in the movie is that when her father was killed in the mines, her mother was so heartbroken that she completely shut down. The day he threw her the bread, Katniss and her family hadn't eaten in days because she was 11 (way younger than it shows in the movie) and she didn't know what to do to feed her family. So for Katniss, having feelings make you weak.

Fun fact, the concept of this movie is based on an ancient Greek myth. Athens had been forced to pay tribute to king MInos of Crete after being defeated in a war. Every nine years, 7 young men and women were sent to be fed to the Minotaur, until Theseus took the place of one of the young men and killed the beast.

Some things had to be simplified versus the novels, or not explained fully. Districts 1 and 2 pride themselves on usually winning the Games. Some kids there will train intensely, and then volunteer as tributes when they're 17 or so. That group of 4 allies are the District 1 and 2 Tributes, all volunteers. Yes, they'd eventually have to kill each other, but the objective is to get rid of everyone else first. You may have seen Alexander Ludwig (Cato) in "The Final Girls" or "Final Girl" [two totally different films], as the Naval officer who's killed in the Pearl Harbor attack in "Midway," or on "Vikings." You didn't have any footage of President Snow (Donald Sutherland) in this non-Patreon version of the review, but he'll continue to be important. Nor the forced suicide of Seneca (Wes Bentley) for screwing up. [Wes Bentley is in "Final Girl" too, BTW.]

The Hunger Games has been compared to the 2000 Hard-R rated Japanese teen violence Battle Royale. Both films tell a dystopian future where the government recruits young children into a deadly combats game. BR was extreme for its time and was not released widely in North America until the HG series came along. Walmart even has copies of BR alongside HG for a time, lol.

Personally, these films are the only ones I say are better than the books, though this is mostly stemming from the fact that I don't like first person narration. The shaky cam is hard to watch but it was applied well. Shaky cam in district 12 went steady once Katniss went past the fence into the woods because that was where she felt she could truly relax. During the bloodbath at the Cornucopia was good as well as it makes it seem like the viewer is running for their own life in the arena. The books are told entirely from Katniss' perspective where the films switch back and forth between certain characters to give us watching the films more story. I also think the use of Caesar and Claudius was perfectly handled. It allowed for a couple of explanations without ever feeling like the film was resorting to the way too common trope of telling instead of showing. I've seen these films at least ten times each and am still finding little details I've missed before that end up adding a lot to the overall story once you know everything that's happened. These little details really pick up in Catching Fire, though there was one in this first film that took me until last year to notice. When Gale talked to Katniss before she left for the Capitol, he tried to kiss her and she thought he was going to give her a hug. It happened so quickly, I only noticed it when I was make gifs of the movie. Slowing things down to two seconds of footage that plays on a loop can be handy sometimes.
