I went to see Elvis and The Whale at the cinema when they were released, I saw Elvis first and months later I saw The Whale. Initially, I was totally sure that Austin was going to win the Oscar, but when I saw Brendan's performance, I thought "okay, no, that's definitely not going to happen" Few movies have moved me so much, but no surprise, this is coming from the guy who made Requiem for a Dream and Brendan is one of those actors you just want to love because he is just a wonderful person y he absolutely killed this role. I can't explain how happy I was when Brendan won.

I don't know you're familiar with Brendan's story but he suffered from abuse from someone in the film industry and he was away from it for years and years, dealing with it and - if I'm not mistaken - he got sick too. But he decided to comeback from this movie. He also suffered a lot with people judging how he aged and how much he changed from that handsome man in the 00s. When The Whale was screened he got a standing ovation and cried a lot.

Also his divorce really put a strain on him emotionally and financially. He also suffered an injury because he was always doing a lot of own stunts and not using proper technique. So I’m pretty sure he threw his back out real bad. He actually has had multiple injuries that needed surgery. So he dealt with chronic pain and depression.

"I need to know that I have done one right thing in my life!" That sounds more than a line when it comes from Brendan Fraser after Hollywood blacklisted that talented, wonderful man. If you hear this line from any other actors, it'll just feel like a line but when you hear from Brendan Fraser, you can tell that it was *more* than that. Every thing that this man gone through prior, he put into that sentence. Well-deserved Oscar winner *Clapping*

I still haven't cried in front of anyone during a movie, BUT "Inside Out" ALMOST did me in (i.e. in front of my roommates). Actually it DID "do me in" in another way: Since I went to such great effort to suppress tears, the suppression actually felt like it hurt my brain! Then... after the movie was over, I discovered I wanted MORE tearjerker movies (which is extremely unusual for me) PROBABLY because something "still needed to be let out" lol. After some research I found out the actual "wanting" to let tears out isn't actually that weird (because apparently, feel-good brain endorphins often come with them). So that's what made me into a tearjerker seeker lol.

@sathvamp1
@sathvamp1 5 месяцев назад
@@bellz9440 I've definitely heard stuff about Soul... I don't yet have easy access to it though. BUT I did get a chance to watch (then re-watch repeatedly since it was so good) "Sing 2" ... there was one part that really got me in that one, the first time at least. Once I found some more (after "Inside Out") that "worked on me"... Interstellar was the second one (which I watched alone, so I definitely let the catharsis happen!). Followed by a good handful more... especially "The Land Before Time", "Hachi a Dog's Tale", the Turkish version of "Miracle in Cell No. 7", "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind", and a few others. Funny story about crying "almost" in front of my mom during a movie: During my second [adulthood] watch of "The Land Before Time" with her, there was actually this box in the room between us that, if if leaned forward slightly, would hide me from view, which I took full advantage of during certain parts!

There's several causes for why obese people continue to eat even their health declines. One is that longterm obesity causes leptin resistance, which makes going back to even a maintenance diet feel like starvation every hour of the day. An actual weight loss diet feels even worse. It's not comparable to the experience of slightly overweight but metabolically healthy people eating salads for a few weeks to slim back down. Leptin resistance is like phantom pain - misfiring signals that cause undue suffering disconnected from the person's actual physiological status. Another thing is immediate vs distant reward. At morbid obesity, it can take months or even years of Olympic level discipline and misery to get healthy-but the relief of eating junk is only seconds away at any time. Imagine a horrible drug withdrawal that takes 18 months to subside. Now reaching for that "hit" of junk food might seem less nonsensical, even though it's still destructive. And eating is often the only thing that brings relief to these people. They see nothing but ceaseless ridicule and disgust in the eyes of others, to the point where mere avoidance is the closest thing they'll ever get to affection. They can't engage in daily activities that most take for granted. They can't even take pride in the deferred reward of some longterm project or goal, because their long term probably won't exist. It's the mother of all vicious circles. Only some make it out.

Ash you are spot on about the ending - it was done beautifully. It's obvious that he died, right there in front of his daughter. But the movie is really about his inner struggle - the grotesque obesity/gorging is a physical manifestation of his poor mental state. At the very end, he was able to make some semblance of peace with his daughter and he died accordingly. That smile he does makes me imagine that he actually utterly felt his departure uplifting him to beyond and was so relieved/content how the journey of his life went. And you're right, there was so many hard to watch scenes, the end of this movie didn't need to be his daughter screaming/crying as smashes the ground with a huge a thud.

28:15 - Charlie sees RIGHT THROUGH IT! He sees it for what it is! A hurt and broken teenage girl lashing out at the father who abandoned her when she was 8 years old! ❤ I usually say they don't make movies like the ones in the 90s and 00s but this film caught me off guard! It caught me by how emotional and real it was! And most of all! By the phenomenal performance of Brendan Fraser! 👏👏👏 that last scene killed me bro! ❤

Hope you enjoy(ed) this heartbreaking movie. Great acting all around. Curious more on ash’s reaction I know Hannah (sorry if spelled wrong) will cry. ❤️to you both.

Love it when Ash says this could be a great play, because the movie actually is adaptation of a theatre play.

I bet this is very therapeutic for Ashkan. Once this film simmers inside Ash’s head, he will be able to forgive his father.

Nice review, long time fan of Brandon Fraser. I love this movie. I was shocked it was based in my nearby Idaho town. 🤓

Couldn't finish this with you all. The insensitivity that Ash displays is very telling of who he is. 😢 Hanna you are lovely.

And yet he analysed it even better than Hannah at the end. It pays to be patient. Ash is goofy, especially for the entertainment of the channel but he is also wise and intelligent when the time comes. I've seen enough of his reactions to know that by now.

Brendan was actually depressed and i believe hollywood "poor" and was ashamed he gained so much weight in reality is why i believe he fit this role so well and got an oscar ....his standing ovation was nice to see

Welcome to 1 of the powerful films anyone will ever see and 1 of the most convincingly raw cast performances ever! Brendan was outright slam dunk deserving his oscar win for this. Got to say flipping outrage Sadie Sink did not get her first for her role but her time has got to come because this truly showed everyone the off the scale acting talent that she is capable of from someone lets face it still only in her early 20's and so still so young. Without a doubt if ever Sadie Sink and Brendan Fraser do another collaboration together would instantly be drawn to it.

Ash you hit the nail on the head so hard I was born into a Christian family and unfortunately my mother believed/believes being gay is wrong and I did for a long time and then I met someone who told me it wasn’t and it just made sense the next year I realized I was bi but I knew god still loved me and then the next year when my dad died I turned my back on god because I was so angry like how could I be expected to worship a god who would take an innocent man and I was angry for 5 years then by that point I was 21 I had met the love of my life my beautiful then girlfriend now wife and I was so scared that she was going to leave me because i didn’t believe I was good enough for her and that night god came to me in a dream and told me that he and she would never leave me and I remember waking up and just dedicating my life to him again but I was so confused how could he still love me and forgive me after what I did but that’s the beauty of it god truly loves everyone no matter what and I just hope one day everyone can know true love like what I have with my wife because she makes me so much stronger and happier than I ever thought I could be and that’s one of the things I love about this movie is it shows just how powerful love is whether it’s family friends or even a husband or wife or girlfriend or boyfriend
