I've never understood the distaste for this one. As a kid I was thoroughly impressed - and I still am. It told a fulfilling story, the characters were all loveable and it introduced a SICK villain. Also the "I need a horse" line busts me up to this day
There are certain aspects to film that people do not realize are objective. This movie misses on some of those elements. While overall film is subjective, there are certain narrative and character aspects that this film fails miserably at.
Or the lack of taste from the audience, but this movie made MORE MONEY than Iron Bish, I mean Ironman which I'm not surprised about because Ironman sucks and is a cheap clone of DC characters. The ONLY character they "failed miserably" with in this movie is Lady Sif.@@187btokes
Loki is such a complex character, even in his first outing here. Loki is clearly conflicted finding out that he's adopted, which is why it feels so 'real' when he yelled at Odin, but immediately regretted it when he saw it actually hurting him. I think some people miss that Loki killed his biological father (the Frost Giant king), in favor of Odin and trying to win his adoptive father's approval.
@@putinscat1208 The ambiguity is part of the complexity, and doesn't have to be either-or. Personally, I do think he was being sincere, as he could've easily let Laufey kill Odin first; after all, Loki was already acting-king at that point.
@@putinscat1208 daddy issues. He was clearly a momma’s boy, definitely a short step from that to needing daddy’s approval as bad as he does. Plus Odin is a shit dad. Not just with loki but thor as well. Hell he locked away his daughter for the rest of his life.
So glad, you loved the Loki/Odin scene, it was really the best one in this movie. Incredible acting there (you can tell, Kenneth Branagh - the director - is a Shakespear master ). Thor movies unfortunately don't have good story lines, but at least the characters are giving their best at their performance.
The phase 1 films (with the exception of The Incredible Hulk) were distributed by Paramount until Ironman 3. You kinda notice the difference of quality since then
The first avengers film is also phase 1. The Avengers (2012 film) Marvel's The Avengers (classified under the name Marvel Avengers Assemble in the United Kingdom and Ireland),or simply The Avengers, is a 2012 American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics superhero team of the same name. Produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, it is the sixth film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
The reason everything affects thor like he's normal after Odin banishes him is he stripped his powers and locked them in the hammer leaving it within reach but unable to be picked up except by someone worthy, allowing thor a way home if he learns a lesson and becomes worthy of his powers again. That's why Darcy was able to taze him and the doctors sedate him. He's still a very strong dude but just that without his powers
I’m glad you liked the Coulson short! Clark Gregg plays Coulson so well. Agents of SHIELD is a seriously underrated, entertaining show full of plot twists, heart, and bad-assery (a lot of seasons- 7 in total- but it’s very much worth it). You’d learn a whole lot more about Coulson there, plus get to know some other kick-ass agents and superheroes. I know everyone argues about its canonicity (it’s canon to me and idc what anyone else says lol), but it’s still worth it to watch it on your own time!
I also noticed that Wanda's evil turn msde more sense to people who watched Agents of Shield. I think because people who didn't watch it weren't familiar with the darkhold.
One if my best series. After around ep 10 s1 its a non stop thrill ride. Season 4 is top class and i like what they did to explain their absence from some of the film story lines. I look to it as canon. Not sure how it could be anything but with the inclusion of characters and references.
My absolute favorite part of Thor was the celestial view of Yggdrasil during the end credits. PS: The part where Odin growled at Loki, just before casting Thor out from Asgard was ad-libbed, by the way. The look of shock on Tom Hiddleston's face was genuine.
The way Selvig's say: "Oh, I still don't think you're the god of thunder. But you ought to be!" Its kinda this film summarized in one sentence. I love it :)
It's important to remember that the MCU is a different reality from the comics. It's a more grounded universe where generally speaking, character power levels and feats are more believable and less over-the-top. For the Thor franchise this is relevant because back in Phase 1, Asgardians were introduced not as literal gods, but a very powerful race of aliens with advanced technology and very long lifespans (thousands of years). who visited Earth in the past and were mistaken for gods. In the MCU, primitive humans seeing the Asgardians beating back the Frost Giant invasion 1100 years ago is what resulted in the creation of the entire religion. And the MCU made all the realms of Norse mythology actually other planets, not mystical dimensions. In the first two Thor movies, Asgardians wouldn't even refer to themselves as gods. That was intentional- all part of the more grounded/plausible movie universe. It was also Marvel Studios trying to avoid upsetting religious conservatives by not formally recognizing the existence of gods and magic back in Phase 1. With Thor: Ragnarok, Marvel Studios loosened up, embracing more of the mythological elements and having characters freely refer to themselves as gods. In the MCU the term "god" is still mostly a title, it seems to mean some race somewhere worships you as one. For example, Loki refers to himself as "god of mischief" but he's still a Frost Giant from Jotunheim. And all the alien races who inspired Norse mythology (Aesir, Vanir, Dwarves, Jotuns, etc) seem to have comparably long lifespans- much longer than humans but they aren't nearly as ancient or powerful as the comic book versions.
Your photo bomb was so freaking hilarious! LOL Thank you for that. I truly enjoy your reactions, and when you do extra stuff like that photo bomb, that just makes it top notch.
He was not stupid. He truly believed Löki cause he loves him like a brother. Löki is a master manipulator. He became a total claud in Love and Thunder.
Following Thor and sorta culminating with Avengers, the internet (Tumblr) was obsessed with Loki, and I would attribute 99.9999% of it to the scene that Tom and Anthony chewed up. If you haven't seen the Comic Con panel where Tom came out in character as Loki, that might clue you into the mania that gripped the fandom before Avengers. I didn't expect Hemsworth's comedic chops later in the series. He had that main character problem where you like the secondary characters more, not because he was unlikable, but because he had to solve the plot. Since you mentioned Thor being ripped like crazy for Love & Thunder, Hemsworth trained hard to have a physique worthy of a god in every outing and got to show it off in each installment. You never miss with these reactions -- "Another!"
I have LOVED ALL of the THor movies. "THEY" need to stuff it. These movies makes billions, but loud mouths on social media say it's a failure. OK then...
21:25 I might agree with you that Thor might call what his mother said to question, but Thor just faced a devastating failure of not picking up the hammer, so he is in a weaken mental state and liable to believe anything his brother said. This is probably why Loki appeared now and not before. Plus, Loki knows best how to manipulate his brother.
It's maybe one line, but Loki explains his motive pretty well at the end. He wanted to kill the Frost Giants. He thought that ridding Asgard of their mortal enemy and true threat would earn his father's love. But both son's are misguided in what their father wants. And in turn, Odin has a hard time being emotional with his sons. Loki's self hatred is what motivates him here. Especially once he knows HE'S a giant too, he really meant getting rid of ALL of them...
Loki's FATHER is LAUFEY, Odious Odin is NOT HIS FATHER. Father is a biological term, and he's never been a DAD to ANY of his children. Odin HAS NOT REAL EMOTIONS, he's a narcissist. Tell us where Loki gets his SELF-LOATHINNG FROM AGAIN? Oh that's right, ODIN HIMSELF.
I can't understand why so many people think Thor is stupid. Actually, he seems pretty average. He's just unlucky that he has geniuses like Bruce Banner and Tony Stark next to him. In such company, almost anyone would seem just as mentally inferior.
Looking back, I like this version of Thor better (and Loki). I seems like he’s become dumber for some reason. And I also like the Shakespearean style/ stage play of this film.
MCU Thor's few weaknesses include tasers and thor-azine :P Ironic. Odin meant to send the hammer after Thor, as a test, because he knew Thor would not just give up his mightiest weapon. He hoped that Thor would become worthy, having to live amongst the humans without his power, and he did.
I just watch all of the Thor movies - at first I, too, was not into these cause people said they were bad. Goes to show - don't trust other people's reactions - cause it is all relative to one own humor/taste.
Loki is the son of Laufey, the leader of the frost giants. Odin also stole their primary weapon and stored it in his weapons vault. That`s why Laufey said Odin is a liar and a thief.
Also, aside of comic books, Thor is like that in mythology too. Brave, impulsive, but not the smartest, unlike Loki, who is sarcastic and kinda funny XD
This isn't the best MCU movie. But I love it for one reason alone, and that's because it's the only movie to at least offer a glimpse of how powerful Loki's magic is and what a master manipulator he is. The other movies continually nerfed him in every way.
He was still pretty dope in Avengers, but yeah, they kept making him less powerful. Not just magically, but physically too. In his first two appearances he was fighting Thor 1-on-1 and trading blows. He ragdolled Captain America around and ate his punches like they were nothing, and repeatedly tanked a ridiculous amount of punishment all throughout the Avengers movie. A lot of it was played for laughs, sure, but he still took an explosive arrow to the face and immediately after survived Hulk slamming him into the floor.
Actually THIS movie nerfs Loki too, where do you see these vast number of powers from Loki here? He used like THREE powers, and two of them are related.
Hawkeye wasn't in this because he was basically added in post production after the movie was filmed and sort of added in. Loved this reaction, this one was a very entertaining movie.
They thought Loki died because he didn't go into the bifrost. That's what Thor was destroying. Loki let go to just fall into space with no knowledge if he would survive or not.
I'm glad Taika Waititi is helming Thor, but I love Kenneth Branagh's directded films. Next I recommend his Frankenstein film. My fav phase 1 film would have to be Captain America.
Fuck it, i'll say. After Ragnarok they ruin my boy thor. Heavily nerfed and is a stand up comedian. They need to do Thor better. He's one of marvel's strongest characters Ever.
@@AnthonyFrye12 i personally like Thor being comedic, but the humor in love and thunder kinda felt like a class clown type of humor, instead of a clever type. Trying too hard to be funny, and most of the jokes didn't land for me
After rewatching all the thor movies and his appearance in the avenger movies i feel he can have his dumb moment but i look at him being incredibly naive at times and he got less over time
he is not god when odin strip him off his powers. he was a normal human with some extra strength. thats all. please be clear of thay thats why he was shocked
@@neospock5034 Kind of. They went way too serious with him in The Dark World. Then Taika Waititi came out with a perfect 50/50 serious/comedy with Ragnarok. The MCU has ran with it, with it being a pretty consistent(and good) 75/25 comedy/serious. Right up until Waititi went overboard with the comedy in Love and Thunder lol
@@Luciphell I know people actually use comedy as a means to cut tension and deal with things I do actually but in some cases it’s not needed. Buildings are falling and killing people but hey let’s make a joke
I like the phase one movies cause each of them had a different vibe. With iron man you know there's gonna be sarcastic humor and him being a very proud character, captain America more of the noble human side constantly trying to figure out who he I'd in his new reality, then Guardian of the Galaxy is straight up comedy. But now with the new phase it's like all the movies are adapting the Guardians of the Galaxy vibe which I sometimes don't appreciate
The first person to try picking up the hammer (before the crowd), was the film's script-writer, J. Michael Straczynski. He's most famous for creating/producing Babylon 5.
I recently started watching Agents of Sheild (I'm a little late🤣), but now that I know more about Phil Coulson, I see him literally everywhere in older marvel movies, if you want to learn more about Coulson, Agents of Sheild is amazing
If Taika were to combine the best parts of his style from Ragnarok with the theatricality of this first Thor movie, I think we'd have an extremely serious contender for best MCU movie by a large margin.
