One thing I’ve noticed is everytime Wolverine makes friends with someone, they’re screwed 😳 For example, in this movie he makes friends with that elderly couple and they end up getting killed and then in “Logan” in 2017 him, Xavier and the kid makes friends with that farmer family and they get killed also by X-24 and the rest of them who were chasing Logan and them
@@nsasupporter7557 Yes, Zero also pointed that out when he told Logan innocent people seem to always die around him,..he is a true outcast and sometimes saving people meant not knowing them or interacting with them
@@nsasupporter7557 I'd imagine it would be difficult to acclamate after years of wars and acting on rage, plus being nicer wouldn't change the fact that he was basically a marked target.
They talk about this as far as Gambit and Blob. There is a certain expense in SFX that comes with some of the mutants and they just didn't have the cash early on to invest in other mutants plus fitting them into story.
The fact that this movie is the closest we got to a Gambit with the X-men, Emma Frost (sort of) with Scott, and Deadpool with Wolverine (until 2024) is a disgrace
That hair Guy name is Gambit, he can charge anything he holds with kinetic energy, causing simple objects like letters to spontaneously move and hit the target with as much force as a missile, Anything he charges with this energy tends to explode violently as soon as it hits something, in the comics he's been described as "a guy with missiles in his pockets"
Victor is Sabretooth from the first movie btw The Blob is actually Fred’s supervillain name in the comics The staff isn’t magic. Gambit can infuse objects with kinetic energy “I’m sad that they shut him up” Yup, we all were. He’s _The Merc with the Mouth!_ Wade is technically a mutant in Deadpool also. This version and the one from his movies are not connected
1:27 "Are you- Are you gonna tell me that Wolverine was born in 1845?" Actually, he was born in 1832. But because of his healing factor, he's _always_ aged rather slowly.
Taylor Kitch is so underrated as Gambit (the guy with the cards 🃏) He was perfectly cast, with his suaveness and natural charisma. Also he nailed the action. The man worked his butt off for the role. In the behind-the-scenes, you see him training with the Bo-staff-in the movie all those fancy maneuvers is all Kitch. Heck, he has the perfect face structure for the cowl he wears in the comics. I wish we saw more of him as Gambit.
Fun Facts: 1) Wolverine’s real name is James Howlett. The name “Logan” is just a new identity. He first appearance in the comics was in “The Incredible Hulk” back in October 1974. 2) Logan was born in October 12, 1832, making him 190 years old today. 3) The entire film takes place in 1979, which is 21 years before Logan joined the X-Men. 4) In the comics, Fred Dukes goes by the codename, “The Blob”, who first appeared in “The Uncanny X-Men” #3 back in January 1964. 5) The man with the exploding cards and staff is Remy LeBeau, who can infuse objects with kinetic energy at will, making cards, bricks, and more to be explosives. In the comics, he joins the X-Men as former thief-turned-hero, Gambit. He first debuted in “The Uncanny X-Men” #266 back in August 1990. He would’ve appeared in “X-Men: The Last Stand”, but FOX wanted to save the character for this movie. He would’ve appeared in “X-Men: Apocalypse” and/ or a solo movie back in 2016 set in the revised timeline, but the idea was scrapped.
"You know how hard it would be to get a gun back then?" As easily as you could get a microwave today. "I'm really excited to see Deadpool again, with context now" This has literally nothing to do with Deadpool, outside of an after credits scene.
There are a few more steps like paperwork, but yes, it's pretty easy to get a gun if you're not a felon in the U.S. P.S. you are correct in that time you could literally just buy a gun over the counter. Sorry, I didn't understand the context of the question before I messaged.
@@aaronburdon221 Hell most people made their muskets. Living close enough to a town or city that had a gunsmith was a luxury and as a result the majority of people made their own from the ground up.
Well it is true that this Deadpool was totally wrong however RR's Deadpool movie references this Deadpool several times in the first movie so I wouldn't say they was nothing to do with Deadpool.
Your sense of humor is going to be needed to get through some of the X-Men films, but I'm looking forward to your First Class, Days of Future Past, and Logan reactions. Still, this one is important to understand the entire journey Logan goes through.
The team Logan and Victor were on was called “Team X”. A mutant black-ops division in the Marvel Universe. Aside from Wolverine and Sabretooth, the members also included: - Wade Wilson/ Deadpool (Expert combatant and healing factor) - David North/ Agent Zero (Expert combatant and energy aborbtion) - John Wraith (Teleportation) - Christopher Bradley/ Bolt (Electrical absorption and transformation) - Frederick Dukes/ The Blob (immense body mass and superhuman strength)
To give people an idea of how polarizing this movie was, the original plan was to have two Origins films, this one and Origins: Magneto. After the reception this one got, the Magneto film was overhauled and eventually became X-men: First Class. When you watch that, you'll see parts that were clearly meant to be part of the Origins: Magneto story.
"Walk until your feet bleed" is so underrated. That means he should not stop to eat, use the restroom, drink water, or sleep. Not until his feet bleed.
This may not have been the best, but I just watch this because of Hugh Jackman's performance as Wolverine. It is spectacular. I still get chills when he rises from the water and roaring like a beast. Hugh Jackman will always be the Wolverine.
Yeah in the extras Hugh talks about how he never saw on screen what he wanted to see for his performance as Wolverine. He referenced the visceral fear reaction you would have watching Robert De Niro in 1991 Cape Fear. I'd say on the rising from the water scene he nailed it. That acting looked feral.
Loved your reaction! Fun fact. Originally Wolverine and Magneto were supposed to appear in Captain America: The First Avenger as cameos. It got scrapped unfortunately because Fox owned the rights at the time.
"Is this a joke, is this a joke?" No, it's a government black Ops to recover a illicit weapon....NO WITNESSES. This is exactly what Ryan Reynolds was joking about in the actual Deadpool movies.
Does that scene supposed to take place in the US or Canada? Not that it makes any difference with regarding gun prevalence and availability back then, both countries had the same philosophy on guns back then, but I was wondering where James was born. I think I'll google it. edit: Ah, Alberta Canada. Thanks, Google!
@@ThatShyGuyMatt You're leaving out the fact that almost every town had ordinances against the public carry of firearms. If you were a resident you left your gun at home unless you were leaving town to hunt, on business, etc. If you were a visitor, you checked it in with the local law enforcement or wherever you were staying until you were on your way again. There WAS no lawful open carry within city limits, even on the Frontier during the Westward Expansion.
@@Ambaryerno that's complete BS. For many, many years the constitution's "The right to bear arms shall not be infringed" was respected by nearly every town in the country. Some towns such as Dodge City KS started the practice you're referring to and despite it being an absolute failure increasing in-home invasions, armed robberies, etc. the idea continued to grow. Winkler's work doesn't match up with my research. Consider alternative sources like Terry Anderson and many others for comparison.
4:36 - In Deadpool 2, Deadpool mocked this scene with Cable during the attempt to save Russel. While he did block most of the bullets, a good chunk of them hit him.
-You now have to see Deadpool 2 for two things. If you can, try the extended version. -This movie wasn’t exactly the backstory for Deadpool but played a huge role in Ryan Reynolds making the 1st Deadpool movie. He wasn’t happy with this portrayal. So, he set out to make one of his own. -While this movie was flat, check out The Wolverine and Logan. However, watch Logan before Deadpool 2. There’s a pretty big spoiler at the beginning of Deadpool 2.
They showed deadpool come back to life at the end of the credits, i didnt see it as too much a departure, though would've been fun to see him interact with the main x-men aside from Colossus etc, in the deadpool movies
"Deadpool", or whatever you call this, is by far the worst part of this movie. Ryan Reynolds hated what they did to the character and actually warned the studio that it wouldn't sit well with the fans.
I have to agree. That Deadpool is lame. He has katanas... He doesn't sprout them from his hands. How would he even be able to bend his arms. With Wolvie's claws one can believe they could be housed in his forearms. A whole freaking sword? No. Just... No.
The director of this film came in and gave my class a chat about working with studios. He told really great stories like he had cast Idris Elba, then the studio without telling him took on Will I Am, he didn’t know the film was called X Men origins Wolverine till he saw it on IMDB. And he wasn’t invited to shoot action scenes, so not only didn’t he direct a single action scene in the film, he wasn’t even on set for them
Logan's memory loss is supposed to be attributed to various factors, like many lifetimes worth of psychological trauma, or Charles Xavier brainwashing him. It doesn't make any god damn sense that an adamantium bullet would do anything special, or that they would specifically know what it would do to the only man in existence to survive the bonding procedure. Adamantium doesn't penetrate adamantium, it just bounced off his head like any other bullet. In the comics, they also didn't show Logan's Canadian origin until after the first reveal of the bone claws. Everyone, including Logan himself, thought his claws were a result of the Weapon X project. Magneto attacked Wolverine by destabilizing the adamantium at the molecular level and then ripping it out of his body. Jean saved him by holding his body together, but it weakened him and his healing factor significantly. Xavier was so pissed, he lobotomized Magneto and put him in a coma. When Wolverine recovered enough to fight, the bone claws instinctually came out.
"do you know how hard it would be to get a gun back then" everyone had guns then, up until the late 1930s you could mail order a belt fed right to your door without a licence.
I remember them introducing him in the comics and his backstory was years coming out. The first I remember about his background was he served with the French underground during the second world war and was the first indication his mutation may lengthen his life.
9:53 Fun Fact - Adamantium is a metalic alloy made by mixing melted Vibranium and Steel together, then set to form into a new alloy, "Adamantium". So they were searching for Vibranium at the beginning, and found more of the Vibranium rock in Africa (Wakanda)
_"Adamantium is a metalic alloy made by mixing melted Vibranium and Steel together, then set to form into a new alloy, "Adamantium"."_ Not quite, that's more or less how Captain America's shield was made (in the comics, not MCU), which is sometimes called "Proto-Adamantium". Adamantium like inside Wolverine (which was invented while trying to figure out the success with the shield) is, to my knowledge, an alloy of steel and unknown substances and some sources even specifically say Vibranium was not in the mix.
LOL in the comics, Wolverine, is a short guy, but packs a punch for his short stature. Some of those comics I read, he's only 5'3". On average, he'd be around 5'5" due to how long he's been alive. And when he was part of the weapon x program.
If Wolverine was a Pokemon: Type: Dark/Steel Ability: Defiant-Attack stats increase whenever affected by a status condition. Hidden Ability: Regeneration-Health slightly regenerates every turn. Move Set: Metal Claw (Steel), Outrage (Dragon), Darkest Lariat (Dark), and Sword Dance (Normal).
Now, talk about not thinking things through at all. They took both Ryan Reynolds and Deadpool, both notoriously witty and funny big mouths, and made them mute. Then they took Deadpool, an awesome character on his own, and turned him into….whatever that is. Holy shit, they did not understand who they made this movie for.
This movie has some of the best and some of the worst moments in Xmen history. The portrayal of Deadpool in this movie pissed people off so much that they made that portion no longer canon and fueled Ryan's motivation for wanting to make the Deadpool we have now
17:55 No. Remi/Gambit's mutation is that he can imbue objects with tons of energy, making them explosive. His go-to "ammunition" are playing cards, since he can easily carry a lot of them and do tricks with them. 22:35 Since you looked like you were wondering how Scott's power works: his power is NOT "laser eyes." His eyes are portals to another dimension. A dimension that's composed of nothing but extremely volatile energy. So when his eyes are uncovered, the portals are "open" and that energy is "shot out" into this world. This is also why the power has no discernible "recoil," despite how hard it hits people. Because the equal-opposite force is being applied to the other dimension, not to Scott.
Well, the one good thing about this movie is that it was the big-screen introduction of the Merc with a Mouth, Deadpool! Sure, it wasn't the best intro for him, but I wouldn't worry.
You know what I’ve noticed? Everybody who Wolverine makes friends with ends up getting killed. Have you noticed that? For example… in this movie when he makes friends with that elderly couple, they get killed by David North in the helicopter. And then in “Logan” in 2017, he makes friends with those farm people and they get killed by X-24 and the rest of them who are tracking him and Xavier
THIS "Wade Wilson" has a totally different Origin story as the wise cracking Deadpool we've come to Love. And the Deadpool Movie is like a potato chip... You just can't stop at One!
This movie is great for Wolverine's backstory not so much for Deadpool's; that's why they made the Deadpool movies, you will really appreciate the post credit scene in "Deadpool 2" now. The guy that flies Wolverine to the island is Gambit, the stick isn't magic, Gambit is a mutant that can charge items with energy like the stick and the playing cards. Always look forward to reactors seeing "Logan" once they have Wolverine's history.
You should have seen this movie like I saw it the first time, in a leaked non released version where the special effects weren't finished and they were jumping around with wires still attached. Very fun!
That's why I recommended this one Vicky. I knew you'd like it... And it answers a lot of the questions you had about Wolverine. Glad you enjoyed it. Keep up the great work! I love your reactions!
Given the time frame ~1979, this is supposed to be a Marvel version of the Three Mile Island nuclear incident in the climactic battel sequence at the end.
Not really. If you take that he was born in the 1700s, then that would be 300 years, 1/10th of that is 30. Still pretty young. With when Logan takes place, the 1 year every 10 doesn’t make sense. Essentially, it seems like Logan ages according to how strong his healing factor is. Over time, and I’m sure the more damage he takes, the more that healing factor erodes and slows down.
@@clonexx it would still make sense since they say the ademantium in his body is whats poisoning him and killing him in the first place during logan. So if he didn’t have the procedure he could’ve lived much longer
The worst thing the movie does is its treatment of Deadpool. His portrayal here is a far cry from how he is in the comics. He's done so dirty here that it took 11 years and a leaked bit of test footage going viral to finally get the Deadpool movie greenlit by the studio.
Logan, is the conclusion, this is the precursor. There is still a long road ahead. Some people hate this but it has plenty of great scenes. And FINALLY...Gambit.
“This is our first introduction to Deadpool.” I’m sorry, but no. It’s our first introduction to Wade Wilson. Deadpool got his own movie and we don’t talk about this movies version.
There's a big continuity error in this regarding the adamantium being bonded to Wolverine. In X-Men 2's flashback it was bloody and he looked horrified at the sight of the metal claws but in this no blood or horrified screaming.
This is an important chapter of the X-Men. It covers not only Logan and Wade's back stories of some of the others. I just wish they had more of Gambit later on. Even though some of the timelines don't jive, as in other MCU, they do attempt to do so at the end of Deadpool 2.
I absolutely love your content. I can't stop watching it. It's like I'm watching all of this stuff with you and it is a great experience. Thank you fir what you do.
Just a correction : the "Deadpoool" you saw in this movie is not "Deadpool", but "Weapon-X", a mixed-mutant made by the General's mad-scientist team... based on Wade Wilson, the futur Deadpool. The real Deadpool, appreciate by fanbase, is that cool (but dangerous) man, constantly breaking the 4th wall, making jokes before killing (and after too, because why not?)
Weapon XI actually. Wolverine is Weapon X. He’s sort of a Rogue who’s absorbed other powers like Cyclops’ and Wraith’s, but not Gambit’s since he escaped. Also was not even Reynolds just some other guy with katanas in his forearms. One likes to think Wade also escaped (to make real Deadpool movies).
Although I sympathize with the critics who felt a little of Jackman’s Wolverine in the team movies went a long way- Specifically, that seeing endless fight scenes with Liev Schreiber, one after the other, didn’t start to feel so much like an old rivalry, but, quote, “Like Popeye and Bluto with claws”. 🤣
This Deadpool character was basically erased when Marvel rebooted the franchise. Some Marvel fans actually refuse to admit this movie even exists. Personally, i thought it tried to mash roughly three to four different comic book storylines into one convoluted mess (the ending is horrible) but as a standalone, it was fine. However, this movie has nothing to do with the current MCEU. Just as the previous X-Men films will have no connection with the upcoming X-Men movies under Feige.
There is a Mutant team Wolverine joins before joining the X-men. The team is a Canadian mutant team called Alpha Flight. The members are James Hudson/ Vindicator, his wife Heather/ Guardian, Walter Langkowski/ Sasquatch, Eugene Judd/ Puck, Dr Michael Twoyoungmen/ Shaman, Jean-Paul Beaubier/ Northstar, his sister Jean-Marie Beaubier/ Aurora and their shapeshifter Narya/ Snowbird. She can transform into any animal native to Canada. She mostly transforms into an owl, a wolf, and a white Tiger. Wolverine left the team because he felt more like a weapon to the team. The military man in charge of the team, General Chasem, only cared about Wolverine’s ability to heal fast. He didn’t care about Logan as a person. They treated him like weapon more than a man. Also they sent him to fight Hulk and a creature called Wendigo. These are the reasons why Wolverine left to join the X-men.
First time i saw this film was a leaked unfinished workprint that didn't have any VFX in it back in early 2009. it was fantastic since it was all just people on wires and blue screens or basic animations. when the actual film came out it was great seeing that not much had actually changed lmao.
This deadpool isn't really the Deadpool you will watch later on. They kinda messed it up here, but redeemed themselves with his own movie and is not directly connected to X-Men. In short, just enjoy this Deadpool and don't pay much attention to it cuz its not the origin story of Deadpool.
It's a shame because this movie had such potential; a story that really made us root for Logan when he demonstrated having morals and pity him at his losses. And with a cast of cool characters like Deadpool, Sabertooth, Gambit, etc, people thought, "There's no way this movie is going to fail." Boy, were we wrong. I can't help but laugh at this movie later on. If you've seen Deadpool 2, you know what I'm talking about.
It’s funny cause the bone claws really don’t look bad. It’s the metal ones that look like trash for some reason. I guess they ran out of time or money once they finished the bone scenes lol And this Deadpool (the “merc with a mouth”) being robbed of his defining trait made it so much sweeter when the movie rebooted him and nailed it.
Both Strikers were very well cast. As was Deadpool, Gambit and the girl who died or didn't die. They just didn't take advantage of the good cast by giving them good writing, dialogue or Direction.
fact that you all might''ve notice. Victor called Logan Jimmy. Its because Logan''s real name is James ""Logan"" Howlett. Logan is his father''s last name, Thomas Logan.
I never understood why they made Wolverine and Sabretooth half brothers in this. They combined Sabretooth with Dog Logan a character from the comics. James Howlett/ Wolverine was born from an affair his mother Elizabeth had with Thomas Logan the Howlett estate's groundskeeper.
Best part about this movie was the video game that came out (and that's because it was already being made before it became a movie tie-in and kept the M rating). It also killed all the other planned "origin" movies, like "Origins Magneto" and "Origins Gambit". 1:28 No, a few years before. 4:09 Yeah, and it sucks so bad both Fox and Marvel want you to forget this movie ever happened. 7:39 No, it isn't. He got his nickname gause he's short, hairy and has claws popping out, like the real animal. And because the character was originally intended to be an actual mutated teenage wolverine. 9:37 They like to play around with that, dropping hints and vague memories, but mostly no. 12:42 Well, yeah, this "nice old couple" scene does feel like a joke. 22:12 You and everyone who had he slightest idea what the Deadpool character was like. It was so bad Ryan Reynolds himself campaigned hard to get a proprer Deadpool movie made. BTW, in case you missed it, Victor is Sabretooth, the growling long-haired blond guy from the first X-Men movie. And no, he is not Wolverine's brother. There were talks back in the 80's to make him his father, but didn't happen.
3:25-3:30 Yep. But note that we only had this Movie (From 2012 or 2013) To go off on (Deadpool) before Deadpool and that was even before it was Announced. So Everyone Was Pretty Much like Scrap for News in Those Days.
