Although the clips were funny, they are in no way the funniest clips from that show! Please watch full episodes (especially from the first few seasons) if you want to belly laugh….. there’s an episode where Fred and Lamont are going over household bills and Fred gets mad at the phone company and calls them up to complain…..HILARIOUS

Ahaha!! That sounds freaking funny! 😂 We'll be starting that show, but we'll have to do it over on our SillieVerse Page because YT blocks our full length reactions on certain shows. We just finished Black Dynamite and currently watching Martin, Chappelle Show, Drawn Together etc. Because we just finished BD, we'll see if I can get ALL the seasons to react to 😁 Check it out and hopefully we'll see ya over there sometime. Did you know that Fred Sanford and Esther Winfield Anderson had known each other since they were 5 yrs old? When they were looking for someone to play Aunt Esther Fred suggested her because he said when the writers described Aunt Esther she pop in his head. When Fred started another show he hired Esther in that one too. Aunt Esther in the show knew Fred and didn't like him because she thought he wasn't a good guy, her sister Elizabeth met Fred and they were married. Obviously Esther thought Elizabeth was to good for Fred and hated him.

This show premiered in 1974 and was hilarious. Another must is "All In The Family" which premiered in 1971. Ask your dad about that show, he'll tell it's a must watch. Probably the greatest sitcom in history. The living room set is on display at the Smithsonian, that's how culturally important the show was. The show revolves around Archie Bunker, his wife Edith, daughter Gloria and son in law (Meathead) Mike. A great start would be "All In The Family, Compilation Of Archie Bunker On Religion" Hilarious! A lot of shows didn't have Q Cards where they can read from. Most of the time (Redd Foxx) Fred did his lines off the top of his head. Say say he could not read, or read too well. Redd Foxx (Fred) was also a very good friend of Malcolm X. They both used to work together in a restaurant , this before they both achieved fame. Both Redd Foxx and Malcom X both had fire red hair. Redd Foxx always kept Malcolm X laughing.. You'll find this in"""The Autobiography of Malcolm X""" Ohh, I almost forgot. I met Redd Foxx and Slappy White when I was a little boy around the age of 11 years old. Great and funny guys, two of them standing side by side.. I knew Louis Armstrong too he lived two blocks from me. Take care """You BIG DUMMY"""

I had an ex (we'll call her Patty Ann) in the middle 80's and we lived about 5 miles apart (let's say in Naranja Florida) and I'd make it to her place just before 11 pm to watch Sanford and Son and then the lights and TV would go off. Those were the days. Still love her from afar.

The producer was initially reluctant to hire Lewanda Page as Aunt Esther. She had been a stand up comic in raunchy clubs her entire career, but didn’t have any acting experience. Because Redd Foxx had known her since childhood, he threatened to pull out from the show if they didn’t sign her on. I’m glad he stood his ground!

This is based on the BBC sitcom Steptoe and Son and was going to be called the same until Norman Lear and Bud Yorkin saw Redd Foxx live whose real name was John Elroy Sanford and offered him the main role and he named the character in honor of his older brother Fred Sanford who had passed away. And that's how it became Sanford and Son.

I grew up watching this show and loved it!!! Oh my gosh It was hilarious and the best bits tended to be the fighting between Fred and Aunt Esther. One of the things that made it so funny is that both Redd Fox and LaWanda Page were already successful stand up comics and their comedy was pretty dirty. So you half expect them to unleash a tidalwave of vulgarity, so you tend to start laughing at the jokes they don't say because your mind automatically fills it in ( if you're familiar with their comedy). Otherwise its as you said, brilliant writing, great character acting, and great television. When i need to laugh i put on a DVD of this show or a few others and go back to a nostalgic time filled with this kind of fun and hilarity. I don't think there wasn't one of us kids who didn't imitate Fred Sandfor'd's over-the-top dramatic fake heart attacks and quoted the line "You hear that Elizabeth, I'm coming to join you honey" while clutching his chest and staggering around all over the he place. LOL!

More fun facts:. Redd Foxx aka Fred Sandord paid homage to his brother in this show. His brothers name is Fred Sanford, and Redd's real name is John Sanford. LaWanda Page while she was really a Christian in real life, she was also a comedian who also made "party records" aka comedy albums with explicit themes and her comedy was just as raunchy as Redd's or Richard Pryor. One of my favorite albums by her is called "Pipe Layin' Dan" and it is definately not for the faint at heart. LaWanda would become an evangelist in the 80's and her daughter would also become a famous evangelist LaWanda Page got her start in the entertainment field as a "shake dancer" similiar to an exotic dancer of today. She was known as the "Bronze Goddess of Fire" or something like that. She would wear nothing but body oil and she would swallow fire. Apparantly she was very good at it. She then became a comedian. Redd & LaWanda grew up together in St. Louis Mo and we're really good friends. Most people know that the network didn't want to hire LaWanda Page, but Redd refused to do the show if she wasn't hired. LaWanda Page was a regular panalist on The Dean Martin Roast show. She would dress in more modern clothes and didn't look as old although at the time of the show she was in her mid-fifties. LaWanda Page real name is Alberta (I can't remember her last name) By the time that LaWanda Page was in her mid-thirties, she had been widowed 3 times including becoming a widow for the first time at age 19 after having married her first husband John at the age of 14.
