They’re called suicide doors because if u were to ever open them while driving down the road, the wind would pull them open because they’re facing the opposite direction and pull you with it. Basically if u ever opened those doors while moving it would be like committing suicide when it pulls u out of the car.

I presume that the owner of the files and papers was an agent in the adult industry and was collecting data on possible new actors for the industry. I don't think it is anything more sinister nor illegal. But it's just a presumption. But if that is the case there shouldn't be any reason to hide those papers, so we never know if it could be something more sinister.

The car known as the X-100 was transported from Texas to the White House, where it was declared a piece of evidence in the murder. Instead of being taken directly to a scrapyard, the vehicle when to a mechanic for modifications. A roof was added to the limo as well as protective armor and bulletproof glass. Once those features were in place and the limo was declared mechanically sound, it was returned to the presidential motorcade. Even more surprising is that JFK wasn’t the last president to use that exact car. With the additional safety measures in place, X-100 returned to the Presidential fleet. Lyndon B. Johnson rode in it for a 25-minute on Oct. 5, 1964, in a parade that was designed to honor Diosdado Macapagal, who was the president of the Philippines. Lyndon B. Johnson (LBJ) used it a few times but admitted that he was never 100% comfortable while in the vehicle. Whenever possible, he tried to use a different vehicle. One of the complaints he had was that it had been painted the original blue, at his request, the vehicle was repainted. A few years later, President Nixon requested that a hole be cut into the roof, per the Daily Mail. This allowed him to wave and nod at people as he was driven past. Later, while he was campaigning, President Ford and his supporter, John Wayne, took advantage of Nixon’s addition to X-100. Jimmy Carter used the car a few times before X-100 was officially retired. The newly decommissioned vehicle was sent to Detroit, where it remains a very popular exhibit at the Henry Ford Museum. (Above information from Ford and other articles available in the net) Suicide doors are called suicide doors due to being able to open at speed and holding the handle they would fly open and pull the occupant holding the handle out of the car. You guys know how heavy the doors are so imagine the force multiplied exponentially due to moving air and the “sail” effect. They caused some deaths. That’s why early hot rodder’s such as my father put a sliding bolt style latch inside the doors when building them that was locked into a swing down notch like a gate hinge closes as well as the factory latch. Hope this helps.

I've read that Lincoln put an interlock into the Continentals with suicide doors to prevent the doors from being opened with the car in DRIVE and avoid such deaths; I assume that Ford also put them on the '67-'71 4-door Thunderbirds. I don't remember any such interlock in my sister's Subaru 360, which had suicide doors in the front because the wheel housings were too far back to leave room for front-hinged doors; that car (about 1100 pounds, 2 cylinders) was not really engineered with safety in mind.

Kennedy's limo was then, as it remains today, owned by Ford Motor Company. Not the US Govt. The car was not the government's to scrap. The deal was that after evidence was sufficiently recovered, the car had the damaged windshield trim replaced, and was reupholstered. The new hard top was fabricated and installed. It was also repainted, and then put back into service. Johnson refused to ride in it unless it was repainted black, and so it was repainted yet again. The car remained in service at least through most of the 70s. Possible longer. It was returned to Ford, and later placed on display. The car is a 61, and had been retrimmed externally as a 62 during that model year. The engine was replaced with a modified 462 some time around 1966. The rear decklid trim had been revised to 64/65 too. The car was kept after JFK's murder because it was simply too expensive to build another one, vs repairing the one they had, which was nearly new.

@@novaseline4uit takes years to make an armored vehicle of that caliber, especially back then. The government needed an armored car as fast as possible for presidential transportation. @billg7205
@billg7205 2 месяца назад
Interesting info. I wouldn't be surprised if the heads/valves are different on the 4v version, to where just slapping an intake and carb on it would not make it a proper 4v engine. Ford and Ford customers bought a lot of 2v models. Dad had an earlier 60s Ford wagon with a less than common 4v 289. Would have been good if he would have just kept the powertrain, for when I got into Mustangs years later
@user-iy7yb1sh8g

Yes, the intake ports are bigger on 4V engines. That's true with every V-8. The Mercury and Lincoln big block engines were a different design from the Ford FE big blocks. I think these kids need to do their research on these old cars instead of making an ass of themselves.

@@carywollenweber4484 I thought the 385 series aka 'Lima' big blocks came out in '68? They certainly got around, here in NZ during the 80's my two older brothers and I bought 460, 429 and 400 (tall Cleveland) engines (from oldest to youngest) to rebuild in the early 90's and the 460 was the best, violent and snappy despite a mild Isky supercam, extensive exhaust porting and 11.3:1 TRW forged popups. The 429 was beyond saving - why didn't they give it a longer rod instead of that ridiculously tall piston?! - and despite my 400 getting ported 351C-4V quench heads (after starting with Aussie 302C 57.8cc quench heads), roller cam, roller rockers, the best of everything and Weiand 4V intake adapters, cam gear drive, manual trans, the works, it sucked. I suspect circular-dish pistons on quench heads killed it, so bought some KB-148 pistons that matched the chamber but got sick of being pulled over and sold it before rebuilding. But the 460... amazing. That brother went on to own a JZA80 RZS 6spd Supra, BMW M5, M6, Mercedes CLS63, CL63 and Chevy C6 Z06, C7 Z06 and I probably missed a few but I swear the only time I felt blood run away from my face was in that 460 on a painfully long and slippy 1-2 shift on the poor stock C6. There's NO doubt the Vettes would have destroyed it but they're so dangerous I only got to taste a squirt from motorway speeds, cos the lower powered LS7 one had fishtailed him shortly after buying it when some distant traffic lights went green after slowing, and he floored it from maybe 80kph and nearly died. Then we started noticing how many YT videos showed Vettes trying to k1ll their owners - he always wondered why they didn't do what Mercedes do and have an open diff and brake one wheel progressively? Incredible traction control. I still have HUGE respect for (heavily ported) 460s tho 🤗 Despite growing up building Fords we wish the LS had been invented sooner! Well played, GM. Well played.

The door gets its name from the perceived danger of the design in the days before mandatory seatbelt use. An unlatched suicide door could easily catch the wind when the vehicle was at speed, and the passenger next to the door could be in danger of falling out

@nicodemusmattson8613 2 месяца назад
@@richardwelch2762 the name actually ties into the fact that back in the day, before seatbelts were invented, if the door opened it would catch wind and violently open when moving. And because there's no seat belts, if your instinct is to grab the door to close it, you would be violently pulled from the car. On top of that at one point earlier on in the history of car manufacturing latches weren't always reliable, and sometimes just leaning on the door could help pop the faulty latch open. So in eccence you could hit a bump, the latch fail, since you might be leaing into it for comfort it would then violently fall away from you dropping you into the road at speed to your death. In other words your actions around the door could cause an accidental suicide lol

I hope you took the build sheet out and have it laminated and keep it. Great for part of the documentation of the car. Also, WHEN you raise and lower the top MAKE SURE IT IS ON LEVEL GROUND. If you are on a slight incline and you lower or raise the top this WILL monkey up the whole works. And then you have to go through a complex procedure to realign the whole things. Great to see the rear glass on the rear doors operating properly. This is done so the glass doesn't bind or rip the top. A LOT of great info is out there especially the Lincoln Club. That coupled with the clickbait makes you sink to a lower level. You guys are way better than that. I’ve also noticed you don’t show as much of the thorough cleaning as you use to. I still love you guys. You all work well together but my personal opinion is that you need to get back to the basics like some of your guests that are also well known detailers.

The car JFK got assassinated in was a dark blue with blue interior, and a limo convertible. This car is none of them. Also, some of those "assassination" jokes are in pretty bad taste. C'mon RJ, you're better than that.

wow what a huge "boat" for sure, the before and after was amazing! but what you have found is creepy af, so i have two teories: the first is, the previous owner was a private detective or someone who kind of worked for the police, so he was allowed to take evidence and follow those people. second, it was probably mentally unstable and took those files from the bin or stole them somewhere near some police dump and was just following those men around... even tho i believe the first one is more suitable. what an unbelievable story! i hope you can update us on how this story end.

My thoughts were either serial killer stalking people, or cia stalking people to use them or set them up at a later date. if that was original owner stuff going back to 62, didn't they actively spy on citizens, compile lists of who were "communist sympathizers" or even gay back then ? I'd love to know what the cops thought of it when they turned it in. Pictures could have been surveilance from a detective, like you said.. or serial killer, stalker stuff or cia taking incriminating photos for blackmail

As big of a boat this Continental is, the 1958 - 1960 generation it replaced was even bigger. The Lincoln division was in serious trouble by 1960, so the 1961 model was going to either make or break the existence of the brand. Ford had already put an end to the EDSEL after the 1960 model run. The company lost $1,000 on each of the '56-'57 Continental Mark IIs. A lot was riding on this new car for the 60s. One can only imagine the nail biting going on when it was first revealed to the public. The body was downsized, stripped of most of its chrome, and had just clean, simple lines and slab sides. It was a HIT! It also didn't hurt to have a young new popular President order a couple for his own personal use as well as the new official Presidential limousine. This car set the styling trend for the 1960s. Chevrolet even toyed with the idea of a four door convertible Caprice, going so far as to build a demonstration show car painted lilac. The 1964 Imperial was designed by the same stylist, and by 1965, Cadillac was adopting the cleaner look. The 1961 Continental is truly an American classic.

Back in the late 80’s my friend’s dad had one of these Continentals that needed to be restored. It still ran and drove so one day when we needed to get a ride to a school dance my friend’s sister drove us in it. My friend begged to be dropped off around the corner because she didn’t want our friends to see us getting out of that “embarrassing old car with weird doors.” They moved away a few years later. I wonder if her dad ever finished restoring that car.

Styling wise, the 1961 Continental was a gamechanger; it went from the gaudy chrome laden fifties to a really clean, simple design and influenced American styling for years. Elwood Engel was the designer.

The Suicide Door name is coined from a concept that is really a myth. The idea is that if you were in the back seat and the door flew open at high speed, you'd be sucked out.....now that's not really going to happen and it's also not suicide, but that's where the name comes from. Doors opening this way were common on vehicle prior to 1950's, but the door style vanished in the USA. Lincoln reintroduced this style.....on Kennedy, I think Oswald did it but was a patsy....there were people behind it all.....he got holding the bag, but I do think he pulled the trigger

I agree and I think it's possible there was more than one. One bullet cannot ricochet and hit so many people the way it. They were after Kennedy for the same reason they are after Trump now. Both Kennedy and Trump knew/know too much and they weren't/aren't willing to play the old boys game.

The reason they call the rear doors suicide door suicide is because they shut towards the person getting out of the car and if someone hits it while you have it open your crushed unlike the front door if it gets hit it will go towards the front fender you might get hurt but not dead

Blows my mind the beautiful colour and roof were under all that crap! I was 6 when that car was built. It's one of the few from that era that was completely ahead of its time in styling and would probably be a big hit if it was introduced today (with modern modifications of course). I may be wrong, but unless it was repainted recently there would not be a clear coat on it. Therefore the decontamination you did was working on single stage paint. I've never really understood click-bait until I read one of the other comments. Can't say I'm opposed but I do agree that I'd like to see more of any work you do on paint restoration as that seems to have disappeared. All that said, keep up the good work. I truly look forward to your videos.
