Excellent. A part of me wants this car to be totally restored, because when I was young five of us drove from England to France and Tuscany in a five door version, with a loaded roof rack. Quite reliable of course, except that the silencer broke and a small garage in the centre of Florence repaired it in no time. Nostalgia; many thanks.

I have a 240z which is rocking the patina but less rust than this. The paint has flaked off in parts exposing a bit of surface rust. I'd love to have seen more detail on how you did the touch up paint work. Since I need to do a lot of that on mine also. It's amazing how much you can transform an old car like this however and I've done similar to improve my 240z but even though it's so much better I am a perfectionist and feel a bit let down by the patina. I know I shouldn't and just enjoy it, but I can't help myself.

Love this so much. Also I echo the sentiment about Kevin Brown. Just love him. His ethics and heart just make him one of the nicest people alive. Proud to call him my friend.

Down here in New Zealand, we knew that vehicle as the Datsun 1600. Very popular with boy-racers of the early 80s, because by then they were dirt cheap and rusty and nobody wanted them.....but boy could you get them to go with a twin set of 40mm Dellorto carbs, long extractors and a 2" exhaust! Slot alloy wheels (aka Tridents, Jellybeans etc) always looked good on them, as did the local Cheviot Turbo mag. Great little cars, them. What a difference a few hours of hard yakka makes, eh? She might still have a few dog-ears around, but she looked so much more the classic base for a full-on restoration once you'd finished with her! I will admit though - I approve of leaving her battle scars visible and preserving the original paint - they are only original once and that paint has many more polishes left in it. I have two 1970s vehicles in my garage that were last painted around 1984 with single-stage and all it takes is a quick buff once every couple of years (depending how often they have sat outside in the sun) and they look stunning again. Do you know how many miles the wee Datsun had travelled before she was parked?
