Hi, so can you make another video about the application process to Dugoni? I actually just went this past weekend for dental camp and am currently a freshman, so I was wondering if there is something i should be doing to help me get past the 6% acceptance rate?

does the prerequisite classes has to be taken in a certain year to get accepted into dental school?

That first tip was already so valuable. It's true, I've been putting myself down because I'm struggling to install a rubber dam in my 3rd week of dental school while the guy next to me got it on his first day.

@Monil Patel im in my final year. Things are much better now and i feel much more confident so it does get easier

@Monil Patel Looking back at my experience of dentistry the following advice would have helped me if i had known about it: - It's a game of endurance. Dental school is a long and often stressful course, especially if you aren't organized. So stay organized and try to always read about what you are going to do in clinic before you walk into clinic. - You need to have thick skin and be super comfortable with criticism. Tutors are there to help but they can sometimes be quite mean and that's ok because they often have to look after many students and things can be very stressful for them too. - Don't compare yourself to other students, after speaking to most of my classmates I realized that feeling like you're not keeping up well with the rest of the class is universal. Everyone or almost everyone thought everyone else was doing way better. For this reason, it is best to not compare yourself to others and try see your classmates as friends rather than competition. - During my earlier clinical years i always felt like I was just terrible at clinic and that I'm just not cut out for dentistry. If you ever feel that way you're not the only one. Hand skill comes with time regardless of how good you are at the start. No one or almost no one has good hand skill in dental school. - Don't let your fear of doing certain procedures in clinic make you delay doing it. If you're allowed to do it and have done it in the simulation lab, you are most likely ready so just do it. Dental school is the perfect time to do new things because you're not alone and you can learn so much with the help that is available. - Finally, make sure you are doing things you love outside of dental school. Use your free time for soul nourishing tasks that you genuinely enjoy. I do Brazillian Jiu Jitsu and that helped me temporarily stop worrying about my stress and gave me that relief I needed. Don't waste free time flicking through social media because it'll just make you more stressed. All the best!

Hey I just found your channel! Can you make more dental school videos? Also it would be helpful for you to make a video about what to do for those of us in college who want to go to dental school.
@JamesHuang3

I have more videos planned! They will mainly be directed at first year students attending UoP, but they definitely can be useful to pre-dental students as well. As for advice for undergraduate students... well rounded students make the best dental students. Grades, extracurriculars, and DAT scores are very important, but there's more to it than just that. Learn to mange your time, make sure you have chosen the right profession (shadowing helps a ton with this), and don't forget to have some fun in college. Dental school is budy, but if I have time I'll make a video about it (:

+James Huang thanks! That's great that you found that dentistry is for you.ibthink dentistry is so interesting! My parents won't let me do dentistry and want me to go to medical school instead.

Just remember that it's your career, not theirs. You should take the time to consider your options, and make the best decision for yourself. Dental school and medical school are both incredibly challenging and involve a lot of commitment and hard work (undergrad pales in comparison). Parents often don't consider that side of things.

+James Huang true. I agree. I think once they continue to see how hard I'm working, they will eventually support me. It's just hard because they don't understand how great dentistry is and they constantly compare me to family friends who are going to medical school. The only thing I'm scared of about dental school is the cost. UOP is a great school but it scares me to owe 400k once I'm done. But right now, I'm just working hard in school so that I can go to the best school I can.

At least B in Maths and English, but A level grades are more important and in most cases they require all A grades in Biology and Chemistry.
