Richter's wife Nina Dorliak was noted chamber singer. They were giving regularly recitals in Maly Zal of Moscow Conservatory. She had relatively small voice and sang very ambitious repertoire. Richter was giving exemplary accompaniment. BTW Richter in his twenties was official accompanist in ODESSA opera house for years.
Thank you so much for sharing this - wonderful. Leaving aside tastes in voice or interpretation this is surely the stuff of great song work. Not a voice and an accompianist but 2 equal instruments, here commanded by two master craftsmen, no silly props or effects. Delightful & satisfying
What a wonderfully electric performance from this pair of master musicians! How wonderfully both artistes embrace the light and shade of the text. I think this has to be my favourite Schubert song... I'd like to hear Thomas Quastoff sing this piece, I think his interpretation might just be even more exciting.
Richter is one of the greatest pianists this planet has ever seen. Without taking Dieskau down, I urge anyone who likes this lied to listen to Bryn Terfel's version. Your minds will be blown away. It is so absolutely perfect that it would be difficult for anyone to actually criticize anything in his interpreation. Tempo is perfect, style is without flaws, etc... Be curious and look for it ;)
could watch and listen to it over and over again. I find his posture funny and helpful (for me as one who learns to sing), sometimes looks like he would do ski-jumping.
If you have the chance to find a Live Recording of Wolf's lieder with Richter (Orfeo), don't hesitate! It's one of my favorite recordings and certainly the GANYMED! this is surrealistic, magic, one of the greatest! With Moore, it's an another dimension and also another personality!
