A truly memorable days fishing as Chris catches a bass well into double figures!! The full story is here!! #seafishing #bassfishing #fishing #beachfishing
Hi Ian we come from the island sheppey on the south coast of England but don't have fish that big but nice to see you put them back we do the same thing like you talk to you soon all the best from victor
Congratulations Chris, bigger than 11 lbs imo. Considering all the dangers and potential disasters, the nets, the pollution, other anglers and natural predation that this fish survived to get to this size, the fact that you returned it so quickly says everything about you as anglers. You can be proud of the fact that many thousands of bass will hatch from her future spawnings that would never have existed if you'd killed this fish. With the greatest respect.
Very kind of you to say that! We never were doing anything except put her back it was a given between us!!! Probably well over 20 years old I reckon! Thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment cheers ian
Hi Mike yes so pleased to catch it… the fishes health our priority we know it was big and the exact weight immaterial really!!! Thanks again for watching cheers ian
This post totally reflects my thoughts on the video, loved watching you catch it, enjoy it and return, happy to speculate on what it might have weighed…congratulations, great fish.
That was an amazing fish and a very good bit of angling. Once you boys had seen it was a monster, being able to keep your cool and gently play her in on such small hooks deserves a big pat on the back. Easy double. Congratulations to you both. 👍🏻🎣
Hi John thanks very much! I think it helped that we have many years fishing behind us and that together we didn’t panic too much … apart from a bit of swearing which I usually avoid on the videos!😂 I think I can excuse that for once!!! Just shows that if in doubt fish smaller hooks…. They catch all sizes but big hooks only catch bigger fish!!! Thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment cheers ian
@@ianclarkfishing - My pleasure. Credit where it’s due. I was also amazed by the condition and colour of the fish. Very dark and silver. Like an open sea fish. Not what I would expect from water that coloured. Very interesting. 👍🏻
Yes we get an influx of bass on our beaches here in April to feed up and they generally have that colour despite as you say the water being the colour of coffee!😂 I’m often envious of the water clarity you have In Cornwall but the murky BC does produce well in the daytime as a result! Cheers ian
Hi Jonathan lovely to hear from you! So glad you enjoyed the video… it really was a very special day!!! Thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment cheers Ian
Absolutely awesome session. Well done Chris stonker of a Bass that mate. Awesome video and a cracking fish for you too Ian. Keep the video's coming. HWTL. Cheers Paul 👍 👏👏👏🎣🎣🎣🎣
Hi mate Nearly a year ago now we can still hardly believe it happened!!! We hoping for another biggie in the coming weeks…. Signs are good!!! Great to see the Toon give Spurs a good hiding last weekend!!😂😂 cheers Ian
I have the greatest of respect to you two guys for returning that bass. What a great fishing channel this is. I have learnt so much from you guys but I have also learnt to respect fish when caught. That was a fish of a lifetime. Congratulations 👏
Hi maté your kind words are always welcome!!! Glad you are enjoying the videos it makes the effort worthwhile!!! Thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment cheers ian
Many thanks for sharing Chris's fish eat your heart out David Attenborough you guys just filmed an exceptionally rare bit of British wildlife and the fact you weren't interested in numbers to feed an ego. Hats off and congratulations 🙌🙌🙌🙌👌🎉
Hi Dean very kind words thank you so much!! That fish probably over 20 years old I reckon it was so nice to see it swim away strongly quite emotional actually!!! Thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment cheers ian
what has more breading potential a 3 pounder or a 12 pounder. A big bass may live another 2 years whereas a 3 pounder may have 25 years more breading ahead...
That's a lump of a bass. Well done bud. Fished there many times decades ago and throws up some great surprises in the right conditions and parking on the beach.
Hi Frederick lovely to hear from you! Yes Brean can certainly surprise you as you so rightly say…. We have both had cod over 20lb from there about the turn of the century but that bass was even better in my opinion! Unfortunately it’s fished poorly this winter but fingers crossed that the bass return this spring!!! Thanks for watching much appreciated cheers Ian
Ha ha I must say I revisited this too a couple of weeks ago…. I forgot how excited I got while Chris was relatively calm!!!! You can’t really blame me I guess it was a truly memorable experience!! Thanks so much for watching (again!!😂😂) cheers ian
Beautiful gesture ! Congratulation ! I would like to say: Look at these two fishermen, they are really good fishermen and they got the gist ! Once again hats off and respect !!
Hi Nom lovely to hear from you and thank you for your kind words!!! I really appreciate it!!! Thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment! Cheers ian
Exceptional fish. I reckon circa 14lb😊 Great to see two guys who understand the significance of seabass of that size and actually put it back, rather than claim they put it back, but somehow never seem to film it.
@@ianclarkfishing a European bass. No such thing as a sea bass. It’s a goodie tautology. Like sea cod.., it’s just bass. I am a trawler man and angler of 50 years plus. Btw
What an absolute joy to see such a magnificent fish and to see it go back. You e made my day. After over 40 years of fishing and hundreds of bass I’ve never had a double. I’ll get mine some day.
Hello lovely to hear from you I’m so glad that the video gave you so much joy!!! That was Chris’s first double my best is 9lb 12oz just short ☹️ it was a pleasure to return it!!! Thanks for watching cheers ian
Hi Kirk lovely to hear from you!! I’m so glad you enjoyed the video it makes all the effort worthwhile!! Thanks for watching much appreciated cheers Ian
Wow what a monster!! All the profanity is totally excused. I loved to see Chris reeling it in , standing open mouthed with a look of total apprehension on his face . I bet the first thing he did after releasing it was to light up a fag. I’m considering going to Brean tomorrow but I expect the beach will be heaving once the word gets around. Congratulations to you both . Stay safe and tight lines. Mike.
Hi Mike so glad you enjoyed the video!! We both still in shock at the session! Lovely tide Brean tomorrow unfortunately I’m on grandparent duty☹️ Good luck if you go I’m sure they still about!!! Cheers ian
@@ianclarkfishing as a UK angler do you know if Alan Yates is about still from sea angler magazine? I received some letters from him years ago, all his videos are really old
Hi nick so glad you enjoyed the video we were fortunate to be able to call on a lot of experience and not panic too much…. Swearing apart!😂😂 thanks for watching cheers ian
Hi Peter yes definitely a biggie for sure we can only estimate it’s weight but frankly its not really important…. We have the memory!!!! Thanks for watching cheers ian
Hi will glad I got a mention 😂😂😂 it was a memorable catch for sure and neither of us will ever forget that afternoon!!!! Just glad that we were there together to share the experience and also happy I had the GoPro on and it all downloaded ok!!! Thanks for watching cheers ian
Wow Ian & Chris👏 What a marvellous achievement to both of you to share this fantastic and amazing memory catching a magnificent Bass total respect returning this beautiful fish back where it belongs top angling guys and tight lines 🎣👍
Hi Levo that’s very kind of you!! I will never forget that day and the sight of that bass as it came in and also as it swam away again!! Thanks again for watching and for taking the time to comment cheers ian
Hi Kevin yes that’s what it’s all about I guess we now have another great shared memory plus on video for our old age!!! Thanks again for watching cheers ian
Much respect to you both on returning the fish ,you guys know the importance of breeding stock ,good fish handling ,great to see you guys taking photographs as a memory of a great day , much respect to you both and well done ,
Hi Gordon very kind words thank you so much!! No need to kill such a magnificent creature as you say we have our memories now and the fish can hopefully provide many more bass for the future!!! Thanks for watching much appreciated cheers ian
Hi Matthew yes she was an absolutely stunning fish for sure and lovely to see her swim away!!! Thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment cheers ian
Congratulations, a fantastic fish off the sand and back in the water after a smile for the camera. You may not have as much beach to yourselves for a while! Thanks for sharing.
Hi Cal yes hard not to panic when you know it’s a huge fish which we saw quite early in the fight!! Very emotional after it was landed though!!!😂 thanks for watching cheers ian
Hi Chris magical as you say…. Not too many sessions like that in one’s lifetime if any!!! Hope all ok down there thanks once again for watching cheers ian
Hi Kenny lovely to hear from you!! I imagine it is a bit alien indeed….. the Bristol Channel has the second highest tidal range in the world and on a shallow surf beach like Brean the sea comes racing in towards high tide… difference between low and high water can be up to 14 metres!!!! Obviously the fish don’t mind and follow up the tide looking for food…. If you like unusual places check out some past videos from chesil beach too….20 miles of shingle on the English south coast!!! Cheers ian
Hi Craig lovely to hear from you! Yes I got a bit excited about that fish…. Who wouldn’t!!!!! So glad that the video gave you some enjoyment!!! Thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment cheers ian
Love your channel and love it even more now, congrats to you both on the way played it,not bullying it and returning it quickly and correctly, well done lads
Hi mick so glad you are enjoying the content it makes the effort worthwhile!! Not sure we could have bullied that fish if we had wanted to 😂😂😂 thanks again for watching and for taking the time to comment cheers ian
@@ianclarkfishing great to see you release a huge bass like her and so quickly 👍🏻 However please please please teach your mate how to handle bass, especially big bass…..never never never lift them up by the gill plates. There’s a real risk that they can tear and that would result in a dead bass! Gently lift them up by holding the bottom lip and a hand under the belly and better still just support it in the water. As you have mentioned that bass is at least 20+ years old and an absolute miracle that it’s avoided all the dangers of man. And in case anyone wants to argue with me, I’m a life long bass angler and a retired Marine Biologist who specialised in UK Bass 👍🏻
Lovely to hear from you and we take your point about handling. We took great care not to touch the gill plates and were happy she swam away healthy!!! Thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment too! Cheers ian
Hi Michael yes we still can’t really believe such a fantastic fish was gracious enough to let us catch it!! It just shows that anything can happen when sea fishing….. thanks for watching! Cheers ian
Brilliant fish guys a fish of a lifetime!! Maybe not 🙏 You can’t beat fresh lug for Bass !!…..well done on the release.. they obviously feed over the lug beds as the tide fills👍👍
Hi John yes we catch our fair share every year on fresh dug lug for sure!!! There are peat ledges on Brean too which they like feeding around which you can cast to about 3 hours before high! Thanks for watching cheers ian
I fish for Bass in south west Ireland… Brandon Bay Ian I couldn’t believe that ye caught Bass in water that was so coloured!!! I had a decent few sessions 2 week ago … caught a few nice Bass in a lovely surf The only impediment I have is SURFERS 😡😡😡 😅
Yes John the coloured water here doesn’t put them off at all and increases your chances in daylight too!!! Like you windsurfers can be an issue at Brean when there is an onshore wind! 🎣👍
OMG what a lovely pair of Bass well done to you gents and putting it back to spawn, you two know your beach and how to fish it thanks for showing and all the best
Hi Danny yes we first fished there in the early eighties so nearly 40 years ago !!! Blimey are we really that old??😂😂 thanks again for watching much appreciated cheers ian
Hi Steven lovely to hear from you! We were both amazed by this fish for sure…. Brean does produce some lovely bass ( and cod in winter) but we’ve both been close to a double over the years but this fish smashed it without a doubt!! It’s what keeps us fishing!! Thanks for watching much appreciated cheers ian
Wow what a magnificent Bass when you lifted it from the surf lan I said to myself bloody hell, the size of it to the scale of your hand unbelievable fish well done Chris and the then for you to get another cracking fish Ian was unreal and respect to you both for returning them promptly lovely to see them swim off. Awesome watch guys thanks so much for sharing stay safe and tight lines 👍🎣🎣
Hi Stephen i think we knew it was special early in the fight but we’re amazed at its actual size when it was eventually landed!!! Goodness knows it’s true weight as had no scales but was well over 12lb and maybe near 15. Thank you for watching again and for taking the time to comment cheers ian
Yes mate truly a session to remember for ever!!! Just hit it right when big fish were feeding hard…. A hard act to follow for the next video!😂😂😂😂 cheers ian
Take my hat off to you guys, watching I was really worried what fate had in store for such a magnificent fish...probably 25yrs + Your actions were 1st class. The girth on that fish was amazing def 12 nearer 14..15 I reckon. Class bit of angling guys , I hope others take on board and follow ur example 👍
Hi Pete lovely to hear from you!!!! Unspoken between us but she was always going back to make more babies!!! My first estimate was 15 as you heard and i think on retrospect this wasn’t far off. Truly the most memorable fish I have seen! Appreciate your kind words and for you taking the time to comment cheers ian
Top anglers the both of you , well done for popping them back to grow bigger for next time. Fish of a lifetime should always be kept in a picture. well done.
About 11 1/2 12 I’ve only caught one this size in the 30 years I’ve been fishing it is a fish of a lifetime Fantastic catch and good to see u put it back 👍👍
Hi Lawrence yes Chris took his time very well and didn’t rush at all… he was a lot calmer than me!!!! Thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment cheers ian
Absolutely awesome😲😲. Well done both of you.👏👏 Chris for catching and landing it on a size 4 hook🎣, and you for your encouragement, coaching and sheer joy for Chris.🫡 Total admiration for your respect and consideration to the wellbeing of the fish,👏👏 Chris seemed more concerned about getting it back than getting a photo.🤣 Top man.👍 Well done you, for your bass too, 🎣shame you lost the other one.🥺 A great video, and a memory made to last a lifetime.😃😃 Thank you so much for sharing.👍👍 Take care and stay safe.😷🙊
Hi Ian your kind words are very much appreciated!! As you say we have a great memory of that fantastic session plus the bonus of it on video for posterity!!!! We both still are in shock at that magnificent fish!!! Thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment!!!! Cheers ian
First time I’ve seen one off you’re videos it came up so thought I’d watch it right through to end and I can say I enjoyed every moment and you guys certainly kept calm and played the fish carefully congratulations in returning bass to spawn it’s not important about size and clearly a double figure bass and all caught on camera inspiration is the key thanks for sharing your red letter day 😎👍
Hi Martin so pleased that you found the channel and enjoyed watching our special day!!! She was always going back to hopefully produce lots of babies for future enjoyment for others!!! Thanks for taking the time to comment cheers ian
Awesome been dreaming of a double figure bass for years and years been angling since I was a nipper.Great you put her back👍👍I fish down on the Gower west wales maybe this year will be the year all the best guys I’ve subscribed 👍
Hi Michael lovely to hear from you so glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for subscribing too. Some lovely bass fishing down the Gower and water a bit clearer too!😂 good luck for the coming season thanks for watching cheers ian
Hi shug great to hear from you a truly exceptional fish which deserves its freedom…. Like you say very old at least 20 years I would think…. Hopefully it will produce more babies for years to come!!!! Thanks for watching much appreciated cheers ian
Stunning lifetime achievement and a very happy couple of anglers, playing that bass so carefully, especially on a size 4 hook. Lovely to see it swim away, respect. New subscriber. Arthur.
Hi Arthur lovely to hear from you! Seeing it swim away strongly was very emotional I must say!!! We now have another great shared memory from a lifetime fishing together! Thanks for watching cheers ian
