Platies are easy to keep and an ideal choice for the beginner. They give birth to live young and should ideally be kept in a ratio of at least two females to every male. They are available in a huge array of tank-bred colours and strains including Wagtail, Mickey-mouse Tuxedo, Calico and Hifin.

If you want to add color to your tank the platy is the perfect fish for that job..

If you put marbles in the bottom of your tank the babies will hide between the spaces. I had some platies and didn't know they were squirting babies out all over the place because they hid in the marbles. They had too many kids; I had to scoop them all up and take them back to Pet Smart. The store gladly took them. It was too much. I've gone back to goldfish.

they look all friendly, but once you get them home and there's only a small hand full (4-6) of them in your home aquarium, be prepared for at least one bully. no matter which combination you try, whether it's all males together, or all females together, or one male and multiple females.....there just seems to be a nasty lil sh*t who keeps trying to ruin everyone else's peace. just like in real life...there's a jackass in every crowd. but i digress...... i've resorted to keeping a single platy in a community tank because they are peaceful to other tankmates.

Cool and yey Maidenhead aquatics! In the gosforth one there is a koi pond at the front u can stroke them and feed them have u ever stroked the big black one?! It’s lush and it’s soooo big and friendly!!!! Lush fish I got some ! (Platies!)

Do you still need a birth tank for the fry or if you have a 30 gallon tank you can just let the fry stay in the main tank?

Can you tell me what is the difference between Platies and Mollies? They look the same to me.

Dade Pomsouvan The more you look at them, eventually, U will be able to tell the difference. For instance, platy body shape is very unique. Mollies tend to have longer body(except for the balloon type mollies).

molly are bigger than platies . second platys come in various colours and mollys come in black white yellow/orange and dalmation
