As I am a complete newbie to fish keeping hobby so was just wondering how to treat for intestinal parasites etc. for small tropical freshwater fish which are around only 2cm- 4cm being the largest size in my 18.5-20 US Gallon fish tank or 70 litre which I have. As I had my firsh tank/ aquarium set up for over 1 year or around 1.5 years doing fishless cycling method and having growing out some live plants using Fritz Zyme 7 live nitrifying bacteria and for natural ammonia using Fritz zyme fishless fuel. According to my local pet store/ fish store they said my fish tank water was very well cycled and very good consistent water parameters except that my water PH being slightly high at 7.6 and also quite high water hardness but other than that completely good. I have quite a lot of live beginner aquarium plants covering nearly my whole aquarium and the fish I have are 5 small red cherry barbs, 2 bright and wonderful Yellow Honey Gourami and 2 beautiful black/ greyish colour Dwarf Suckermouth Catfish/ Otto which are very much like plecos (Latin name: Otocinclus. sp.) As they only tend to stick to the sides of my glass fish tank or on top of ornaments or my live plants. As for regarding health generally majority of the fish look very nice, vibrant colour and swimming around well however one of the red Cherry barb is looking quite sluggish or at least down at the bottom of the fish tank by himself and not eating much mostly unlike the other community fish or possibly something red sticking out of it's underside belly lile bloat possibly??? I have also one of catfish I noticed strangely just started yesterday white stringy poop coming out as it was swimming around which if correct according to my research/ knowledge is obvious sign of intestinal parasites etc. Other than that all my other fish such as my 2 Yellow Honey Gourami are completely fine and seem to be very healthy and doing very well, looking fine and eating well etc. Any useful information/ tips and advice would be very helpful and greatly appreciated. As obviously unlike in this wonderful RU-vid video I obviously can't treat fish individually by taking them out of the fish tank and lying them flat on a towel etc. as my fish are way too small. Also unfortunately as I don't have enough money I only have 1 fish tank so no other separate fish tank to use as a hospital tank to treat the fish that maybe looking sick in my opinion individually. As recommended by Kaveman Aquatics RU-vid channel I have been using since I bought my fish (not bought all at once obviously) using Seachem stability and Seachem Prime and Seachem Flouish Advance for my live plants. Thank you, Kind regards, Tom from UK.

My tank has had Ich twice. First time had no clue. Lost my 8” BorleyI and was my most favorite fish. Just got new house and tank came with it. Borleyi was first fish I got myself and grew like crazy in 3 months but suddenly he was full of white stuff all over him. Just noticed fish flashing last month or two and this guys video saved me. Got Ich-x after Borleyi died last time. First raised water to 84 gradually and added aquarium salt. Noticed little bit of spots after two days and treated Ich x for 6 days with every other day 30% water change. Month later fish are thriving and none died. These videos are a savior for newbies especially!

Ive been having the worst luck with fish this year. All my fish just keep dying. Regardless of what treatment approach I take. It not only has been breaking my wallet. But its also breaking my soul. It tears me up watching a living animal suffer and then die. Knowing you've done everything right to the best of your ability, and it just wasnt enough to save them.

Best Hydra medicine- gold fish! My tank of orange cherry shrimp was dying of slowly and I couldn’t figure out why. I had adult shrimp but the shrimplets would appear and then disappear. I had let tank the tank plants really take over so they had lots of coverage and rock piles. The other day I only saw two old shrimp in the tank, I went to town trimming and found hydra. I saw or read that gold fish would ear them and I wouldn’t need to add a heater. So I got two flash and fat head,I forgot how much fun they can be. They will live here for a while and then I will take them back to LFS for rehoming. They are doing a great job in the tank but it’s not big enough for long term.

Just to add onto this, for those with aquariums too small or too warm to put a goldfish in, spixi snails are also known to eat hydra, though they can be a bit tricky to find for sale.

Somebody should do a video about fish meds for people outside US. In EU from antibiotics we can only get nifurpirinol, that's it. If you run into nifurpirinol resistant columnaris, you are screwed. Luckily the strain that i experienced in my tank wasn't too aggressive. The way i saved my fish is by appying malachite green and methylene blue mixture product directly onto their skin with a q-tip. Adding antiseptics to the water wasn't helping.
@thehairywoodsman5644

you should add Valium to the list. Tuesday morning about 12 am we had an f2 tornado pass a few hundred feet away from our house. we took no damage apart from losing several trees , and on of them landed on top of the shed I keep my generator in. the power was out for 65 hours or so . I have battery powered air pumps for every tank , but no way to heat them . so I can report thang my angels , a retail shark , lots of various tetras and Chula loaches all survived water temperature of 57 F. I lost no fish but sweated a lot . this morning a was doing some water changes when I noticed a 40 breeder with 6 inches of dirt and sand and planted like a jungle ...was leaking.......... so VALIUM ! is the medicine I think every fish keeper should keep on hand . sadly I have none and must resort to beer.

Hello Jason, great video. Would you be able to tell me the difference Maracyn and Maracyn 2.And what is your opinion of Prazipro for internal parasites. Thanks
@typicallyusual6984
@typicallyusual6984 2 года назад
Hi, sorry I’m not Jason obviously but I think I can answer those questions. Maracyn is erythromycin, a broad-spectrum antibiotic that treats most gram positive bacterial infections and some gram negative bacterial infections, but it’s mostly gram positive. Maracyn Two is a complete different antibiotic by the name of minocycline. It is a gram negative antibiotic, though a better alternative would be KanaPlex (kanamycin), because minocycline is not as broad spectrum, does not work well in hard water, and is harsher (though it’s still good, especially if kanamycin isn’t cutting it for the gram negative bacterial infection). I’m guessing Jason would say PraziPro is good, but not as good as ParaCleanse, because PraziPro contains only praziquantel while ParaCleanse contains both praziquantel and metronidazole. Just be careful using either of those for parasites. Sometimes it only kills adult parasites but not the eggs so you have to do a second course of it a couple of weeks after you do the first course.

@@davec1294 Sorry I’ve since learned (and experienced personally) that ParaCleanse doesn’t dissolve well in water because the praziquantel in it is not water soluble, so instead I’d just buy Metroplex (metronidazole) and PraziPro (praziquantel) separately, which is what I have now done.

I've been watching these videos obsessively for over a month now, constantly making notes on my big whiteboard, which eventually turns into a shopping list. Trying to do everything right as recommended. But by the time I actually make the purchase, it's hard to keep track of which vid to go back to to find the link. I like to use them in combination because the likelihood that the infection is resistant to both meds is reduced compared to a drug resistant microbe being resistant to one of them. Also, we don't often know if the infectious agent is gram positive or negative unless we do a Gram stain, which most people don't have the equipment or reagents to do at home.

Hey Jason! Great info. What would your approach be for a columnaris outbreak? It sadly devastated my community before I could save them and now I only have an empty tank with just a few shrimp left. Not sure how to make this tank thrive again or be inhabitable? Was debating throwing some maracyn 2 in there and just let the thing run empty for a month. Any advice?

I'd hit it with both the maracyns!
