This session I decided to do a little Fish With what you can find / catch fishing challenge! I gave myself the target of catching river / stream chub using only baits I could forage from the bank. I brought no other bait with me what so ever so I had to forage for things like berries, worms and bugs to help me catch my target species. Lets see how I got on!

Mate i have been watching your vids for years now, whenever i needed a break from studying I used to fish alot as a teenager but didnt get a license as adult yet I just wanted to say thank you, maybe you dont know how relaxing it is too just follow u wandering around in nature and do stuff like this Also i legit didnt know UK nature is THAT beautiful before i discovered your Channel (im from central europe and only been to uk cities) Cheers!

If you want to hold grasshoppers in a box... use a long box, put a cut off nylon stocking on top, so you can go in and out of the box without them escaping🤣😉

I love how you always seem to be carrying a net that isn’t quite long enough 😂 having watched most of your vids, I have seen you have nets of all sizes and pole lengths so it’s just funny that you always have to contort yourself trying to land a fish! Also, that pike was not impressed 😂 when targeting them you can spook em by breathing too loud but this guy was just like “you don’t know me!”

My Grandad always used to say that elderberries were good for roach…I’ve never tested out that theory though!

Yeah very good for roach. Find a Bush overhanging a lake or river and fish an elderberry under it, guaranteed to catch. Don't need to feed many either.

BLACK SLUGS BRO!!! If you have never tried free lining or float fishing for Chub with slugs, you have got to mate. They go crazy for them, that "plop" when the bait hits the surface seems to drive them crazy! Thanks for all you do bro, cheers.

I remember when using slugs wasp grub for chub and bugs was the norm. Really nice to see a video using baits that naturally get washed in to the river our just fall in. That most people don't realise that the chub will take without worrying because to them. It's just a natural bit off food . Fantastic video and great to see someone like u Chris promoting something that's easy to come by and doesn't cost a thing. Just a little bit off time 👍

I did the same last year used wood louse,grasshoppers,worms,earwig’s and fresh water shrimp the wood louse and earwigs worked surprisingly well for perch and roach.

After seeing you fish with blackberries last year for chub I gave it a go in a similar fashion. I sandwiched a Berry between ground bait in a feeder and the roach and breem abs loved it 👍👍thanks for the inspiration! Love this type of content. Thanks dude keep them coming 😁🔥

Great video and goes to show fish will eat most things we can find along the bank as it's natural to them, my personal favourite is elderberry in the autumn on the canals mixed in with your ground bait and loose feed for the bags of roach it can produce on its day

Used to often use slugs from the river bank for chub, used to work pretty decently. Always worth trying, can also remember using a cake wrapping as bait from my pack up after running out, caught a few small carp with that. Love the odd ball fishing you do.

Got my pb chub on a nasty fat orange slug last year! Just pushed the scales over 5lb was well happy, the only problem with using slugs is the disgusting slush left on the hook after the chubs had a munch on it!

I've had roach from the Thames on Elderberries that I picked whilst searching for a swim at Shepperton. Don't forget to turn over marginal stones for the various fly larvae!

Great video, I had a frustrating session on a local lake last year where I was getting a lot of knocks and fast bites but no hook ups, had elderberries hanging over the water so tried them in desperation and ended up with a fish a cast where they were confident on a natural bait, Roach of just over a pound. Many overlook these kind of baits but, as you have shown, they can be deadly

Grass hoppers were my bait of choice as a kid growing up in Washington state USA ... the late, great short comedy Author Patrick F. McManus even named one of his books "The Grasshopper Trap" after one of the short stories in the book... If you haven't read any of his work I would HIGHLY recommend it!! The trap involved 2 12 yo boys, an old man, his model T pickup, a kitchen chair wired to the fender and a butterfly net...
