Have you caught bobcat in those elevated cubbies?? How high are they and what size trap do you use? I'm planning on trying cubbies for bobcat next season, 8" spread is the biggest we can use unless 5' off ground or underwater. Never even considered elevating them!
Sadly not yet, just raccoons and that fisher. Bobcats, though there are quite a few caught are rather rare right around here. I've seen tracks a few times this year and do have a few above ground cubbies set but no luck betting one to commit. The older gentlemen who showed me how to make them has caught quite a few in above ground cubbies in the last 7 - 8 years since he's been using them. We are even more restricted than you are as to conibear trap size for land trapping. No body-gripping trap having a jaw spread greater than 4.7 inches (12 cm) (e.g. conibear 160, 220, 330) can be set for any furbearer except)in or over water or b)five feet (1.5 m) above the ground or)in a dog proof enclosure.
@@archertwo Damn. Next season I'm going to try catch bobcats in cubbies like Jason Roberts gets lynx, and some replicate some lynx pens with fencing like a guy they showcased on Trapping Inc, try some with 280's and some with a blind foothold in the entrance, fingers crossed
Thanks Barry. From what I've seen of others that have been caught since I caught this fisher it's the lightest colored. Probably not worth much and I should have kept it but it went to FHA with the rest of the fur.
Light , dark, I wouldn't know if that was a good or bad thing. I actually had to go back to your video about fisher skinning, etc. Thanks for that vid by the way. Helped me out. I've been trapping for a long time and I've found out that the more you do this the more you learn. Someday I'll make a vid on how you can video weasels and still keep your bait intact in case a mink saunters by.LOL
@@archertwo I used to live in NB I trapped for quite few seasons when I was living there. When I retired from the military I decided to stay in On I love trapping here it is great, I manage 2 registered lines for most of the winter. thanks I like you videos Ps I like your wire bobcat cubbies, made out of old eel pots or the material that eel pots are made from lol I used to have a commercial eel licence in NB
