The world I live in is starved for this. For culture. For history. For tales (tall, harrowing and bawdy). For soul. Thank you and the FF. Soothing balm for this caustic year.
I’m 60 now I have worked all over the world. I was born in a small community south of Halifax I miss the people the spirit the tales the music the heart. I am able to retire it’s time to come home I am proud to be Canadian but I’m more proud to be a maritimer God bless New Scotland
Amen man, the maritimes still have some culture and identity. The rest of Canada until you hit Alberta is either English hating or a mix of immigrants and basically an extension of New Yorkers in Ontario
It was an honour to be invited up to sing with the real stars. I'm on the far right next to Cleavey and thoroughly enjoyed the three songs we sang. Thanks for posting this and thanks to the locals in Port Isaac for putting up with us. I hope the movie does you all justice.
I love the movie and it really shows we've lost a lot of our roots to the modern age. It's great to see a group of amazing fishermen & singers keeping our roots alive. From a Canadian with roots in Kent & Lincolnshire.
Ah definitely.... The folk music should be cherrished. I just looked up a Geordie folk song which led me to this. Both my Grans used to sing to me as a kid.
Rest in peace Trevor and Paul... singing has been a part of Cornwall for thousands of years, we sang underground and we sang as we fished, the singing used to help them keep in time to haul the nets into our Cornish Luggers And we've also sang in pubs lol... I remember as a child all the fishermen singing as they mended their nets on the slip, on days they couldn't put to sea. Funny how things stick in your memory!
I used to work with Paul, he was the manager of the theatre where I still work; we were the last to see the fellas that year 😪 It was good to have them back at our sister venue last year 💟
I too have had the honour of singing with the boys on 3 occasions now, 62 years old and I unashamedly wept during the film (we all know when) just love these boys, a shanty singer myself.
Came here because of the movie. Fell in love with Port Issac watching Doc Martin. Recognized the town instantly. Such a lovely bunch of characters. Hadn't heard of Fisherman's Friends before but love harmony singing. Great that these guys made it big.
Raised up on the boats on the west coast of Canada and 40 years on the boats for my own living .i just watched the movie and that’s some crew over there.God bless ye boys and keep on making the song.youre gettin her done.
During Covid got the movie for my folks in their 80s. They enjoyed the story and music but especially the scenery of Port Isaac. Took their minds off their troubles ... house bound and isolated from all their friends.
I broke down in tears three bloody times in the film about these guys. And to hear my home state of South Australia get a mention in a song was just a thrill.
Just saw the movie here in Canada yesterday, but learned about Port Isaac (via the long-gone North Cornwall Railway) a few months ago...what an amazing part of the world you are blessed to live in...thanks to the original Fisherman's Friends (and to the guest singers!) for their beautiful songs!
Brought me home to Newfoundland if only in my heart.. these cornishmen where alot of us Newfie lads came from made me miss home im telling ye..out of devon and cornwall and scotland wales and almost every county of ireland we newfoundlanders were made from..splashed in sea shanties and irish rebel songs qnd doused and keelhauled in the broad north atlantic for good measure..and all this came through my eyes water ports watching these old sea salts heave away from port isaac..ill visit ye one day just to see what it feels like to feel at home someplace besides the rock..."lang may ye big jib Draw,Lads"..keep at it loved the movie and the tunes..
Watched both movies over this weekend. What a superb comedic couple of films. Well done chaps. Singing and talking can't beat it. And yes I joined in with the singing in the cinema.👍👍
So much fun! ... Songs that came from drinkin,' made to be sung while drinkin'!! Never heard of these Guys or the movie so I looked it up. The lead Actor's first name: 'Tuppence' -- I love it! They couldn't have staged this any better -- most beautiful place in the WORLD!!
Love the music and the film. Looking forward to the new film and going to the stage musical. Have always lived singing along to sea shanties. Drunken Sailor is probably one of the first songs I learned as a child back in the 50s
Watched this film on Netflix last night and I went to bed singing "Drunken Sailor" and woke up this morning still singing....truly uplifting, feel good, happy movie to watch to lift one's spirits during this difficult time in our world. Highly recommend! Bravo!!👏😊
Saw the film last night and it was brilliant.. Went to Port Isaac for the first time last year and fell in love with the place... Returning for two weeks this year so hoping to see The Fishermen's Friends singing their shanties..
Ahhhh this is fantastic!!!! Thank you so much for singing and sharing this past time favourite 😍🙏🏼🙌🏼 I agree with others here…. Our current culture (Australia) is starved of these traditions and our heritage 😅
I'd never heard of any of this- the town, the people, or the movie, but RU-vid recommendations knows I like Irish folk. I'll have to check out the film!
Now that's a man's song that we all humans can enjoy! Go into most pubs in Island and there is live music in most pubs, locals with their own instruments all coming and going, great night out in most Irish pubs! They sure know how to have a good sing song and their beer is not bad!
Love this and recognize the harbor as that from the Acorn BBC Series, "Doc Martin." Wish I was there to sing along. Music has been a life force with the CoVid insanity! Keep singing lads and lasses!!!
