Fishing and Adventure, Light weight Fly Rod large Trout

When I think of fishing and adventure trips, I always think of this river. It is not easy to traverse and if you did hurt yourself in here, it would be a mission to get back out. This keeps me on my toes and adds to the overall experience of what I am doing. The water was a little high on this day and I had incorrectly taken a 8 foot six, 5/6 weight fly rod with me. In short I was under-gunned when I hooked a decent fish. They used the current against me and I didn't have the power in the rod to fight back. I certainly got my money's worth in the fight department.. Please subscribe to my page, share and like if you think it is worth it and by all means comment. If you have a specific question or something you would like to know about fly fishing in the North Island of New Zealand, please ask.
Regards Shane

WOW what a cracking video. Well done mate. So awesome seeing it jumping. Great work "muscling him in" hahahaha Here in North East Victoria I don't need to have a rest after landing trout. LOL They're rarely big enough to wear me out.

Hey Robbiefishing. Thank you for the comment. LOL yeah sometimes I huff and puff after landing a trout. Get over here and i'll make you huff and puff. I will put up a video today of another fish that really tested this little rod. All my clients get smashed off by New Zealand Trout. Even the best of them have been schooled in speed, weight and dirty tactics. Generally we laugh, occasionally we cry :) Taight lines bud.

That is small and light setup for that water, but you did very well. I enjoy your fishing style, no music track-but what can compare to the music of water a screaming drag and a large fish jumping. We have a Blue Ribbon stream here in New Mexico. The San Juan River is a deep slow river that comes out of Navajo Lake, constant 40 degrees Fahrenheit year round. First quarter mile strictly 'catch and release'. A 5/6 rod is as small as you would dare to want to go. My personal favorite rod is a 9' boron rod #8 line with 9' leader down to 4lb tippet about 4 feet long. I have owned this rod for 38 years. Many fish have lost the day to my 'Melanie' but everyone has been released, but with a stern admonishment to 'be more careful next time, not everyone releases'. We are stubborn lot here in America, and refuse to go metric, but hell, you drive on the wrong side of the road. Happy fishing, tight lines and large tough fish to you. Look up the San Juan River in New Mexico. I am sure you have it's match there but it is a beauty.

Hello my friend. Sorry to take so long in replying. You and I have quite a bit in common when fishing, I think. reading your comment made me laugh as I say/ think the same as you. I have told many a trout off for being so silly :) Yes I have a favorite rod too and although it does not have a name, I might just have to give it one now. I have another Sub from Mexico so am aware you do have some good water to play with. I love U Tube for the ability of bringing two people together over the love of a hobby. Be safe now bro, I hope you subscribed and can keep an eye out for me over my summer. Cheers Shane

Nice work mate. River looks big, must have been dicey wading it.

yeah, I went up to first gorge but that was deep and nasty looking so bailed. It will be epic when it drops in volume. We have just had more rain though last night :( :(
