I love lighthouses. So far I have seen 276. They are so different. They give me an excuse to travel and camp. And yes, at 63 and female, I camp alone and love it!
So welcome to my beloved state of Michigan. We are definately geared for families and camping, skiing and snowmobiling. We do have some big city theaters, art galleries and the like such as Grand Rapids, Lansing, Ann Arbor and Detroit but my personal favorite is the west coast of michigan and north. I hope you get a chance to visit the upper pennensila. I have been watching your videos for quite a while and since I belong to a group of women (the camping sisterhood) who camp with out our men, tent camping is my favorite. I love your set up. I am 79 and camp with my two daughters (60 and 58) who do most of the hard work. I will keep watching your progress.
Wow💚🌲Great video. I loved it ALL! The nice float, the lake, the black squirrel 😯, the food, Kelly's pecan pastry 😋, the lighthouse, the alpacas 😍ALL of it😊thank you SO much for sharing with us. Can't wait for more😁
I was just watching your video, laying back on the couch enjoying Michigan. Then you had to go to the restaurant and order the delicious sandwich and hamburger with pie! You are killing me! That not to say Kelly's cooking doesn't look mouth watering, because it is, but I guess the pie just spoke to me.
Traverse City and around it is so amazing....Every time I've went there it just takes my breath away...Like you said it gets cool quick in the evening, but who cares when you are in paradise .....Great clean air, clean water, most polite people Iv'e been around and the prettiest place I've been to !!!
The thing about the cherries is because up in that section of Michigan there are tons and tons of cherry orchards. At least there was back in the early seventies. I have been to that very same Cherry hut but way back then. It was always a huge treat for us kids.
If you get the opportunity, try the Traverse City Pie Company cherry pie. In the past when I happened to be in the area I always took at least 4 pies home with me back to Maine.
The black squirrels were brought to Michigan by W. K. Kellogg from Africa. They have now migrated through out most of the state. Cherries are a big deal here because we are known as the cherry capital of the world. Apples and blueberries are also major crops for us.
Just getting back and settled in from a six day camping trip with my husband, daughter, and her friend. Gonna sit back and relax and catch up! Kellie...I thought of you this morning on my walk. I saw so many birds including my first red headed woodpecker...saw two of them!! -Hedy
When I was very young in the late 1960s and early '70s we used to stay at a cabin right on the Platte, at that time it was still deep enough we could take a 12 ft boat with a small outboard and go all the way out to Lake Michigan. We would be up there for 2 weeks and my dad and I would go up and down the river just about every day.
I enjoy all your videos. I just wanted to let Cody know that after watching you make an omelet in the previous video--I finally made my 1st successful omelet after years of trying! I followed your steps and it worked!
For kayaking in Michigan, you need to try the Au Sable river. Put in at Graying and paddle as long as you’d like. This river hosts a canoe marathon at the end of July each year.
I love the way Cody is always looking at nature around him from the sky, to the flowers, flowing rivers ... just gives us fabulous views if nature. We enjoy you guys every time and your honesty about your likes and dislikes. Be honest with your followers and they won't have a reason to leave you.
I have kayaked the Platte river when it was so crowded it was like bumper boats. You should go about 20 minutes north and kayak the crystal river just as beautiful.
If you make it back down to the lake shore you need to look for Petrosky stones you’ll find them in the gravel where the waves come in. They’re gray with a hexagonal pattern. BTW it’s Michigan’s state stone.
Man that Park look like it's a lot of fun there in Michigan. I have family there in Michigan. I need to get ahold of them so we can get together at this part and have some fun. I really really really like that kayak ramp man. That is awesome I have not ran across a place to have something like that. It makes it so easy to get from the car down to the water with your kayak & gear. I wish all kayak pieces would have something like that like the place that I kayak launch from earlier today. My family ( wife , 6 boys , & my granddaughter ) is taking me on a 30 - mile kayak camping trip & my wife invited her co-worker and her family ( husband , & 2 boys ) to kayak with us for Father's Day and boy those ramps would have helped us today get The Kayaks from the car down to the water. Good video thank you for sharing.
You were in the right place for food, the Traverse City region is the cherry capital with many orchards, I think Michigan is second to Washington state for cherry production. Its also big for wineries as its on the 45th parallel which lines up with the great growing regions of France for wonderful grape production.
We are from NC and fell in love with it on 2017 on an RV trip. So much that we bought a second home in Manistee in 2019. A couple more years and we will be up there permanently. Will be back up there in a couple weeks for a visits.
Since you were at the Bear dunes, you should make it to the Upper Peninsula. There is a beautiful lighthouse at Mackinaw bridge, and you need to go to Tahquamenon falls, it is gorgeous!!
Glad you guys got to experience things we would of suggested the only thing we have done is Rocks Landing. Platte River is awesome and in another month it will be crowded with a bunch of people having a good time. Black squirrels. Funny thing. That campground is the first time we saw them also. We were doing a drive through of the campground. They are all over the place in that part of Michigan. We have them in our yard in Manistee. We even have a big birch tree in our front yard. lol. Point Betsie…been there so many times and you get a different look every time. Unfortunately, the inside was never open any time we go. Maybe we were there after closing hours. There are so many lighthouse. Frankfort has one. We have one in Manistee. They are all over the place and each one is unique. See as many as you can. Frankfort. It’s pronounce Frankfurt. Like a frankfurter. If you drive down to Onekema, good luck on getting the pronunciation of that one on the first try. Haven’t been to stormcloud brewery yet. It’s always packed. But have some great suggestions for other restaurants there in Frankfort and Elberta right across the portage lake. M-22. You really need to drive as much of it as you can. I read somewhere that it’s the most picturesque autumn drives or voted it. It starts in Manistee and follows the shoreline up through the Lelenau peninsula and ends in traverse city. It’s really beautiful. Cherry Hut. You are spot on. The food is great and the cherry pie even better. The turkey dinner is da bomb. We’ve also been known to stop in to buy a pie and some coffee and go over across the street to the park on Crystal Lake and eat pie and drink coffee with a beautiful scenery. The hut will give you plates and forks to go with you. It’s seasonal. It closes down in the fall and probably hasn’t been open too long. There is a cherry hut store on the hill there in Beulah that you can buy pies when the restaurant is closed for the season. Cherry’s are big in michigan because they are grown there. The cherry festival will be happening pretty soon in traverse city. You need to drive over to Glen Arbor while you are at Platte and check out the Cherry Republic. Everything cherry you can think of. Feel free to ask ahead of time of where you may be going and we will see if we suggest anything.
Ohhhh that looks soooo fun! It just meanders along so beautifully. I saw jet black squirrels for the first time down in Joppatowne, MD. I thought they were unique to that location. They are beautiful, aren’t they? Michigan produces the majority of the cherries in the United States.
Love watching you cook and learning some new recipes! Michigan is unpredictable weather wise. I love to hear the comments of those who venture North! I live up here and am freezing and/or living like a bear most of the time. I'd love to visit Arkansas, but don't think I could handle the heat but would love to "live in my flip flops!" Enjoy your visit!
Hey my Dome Life friends Have been following your travels for a while. We are also in Michigan . A little north visited Mackinac Island Wed. camp is near. Leaving this area Sunday headed to Detroit area for 3 days. We enjoy your travels and recipes. Be safe. PS…. We like those Dome Life coffee cup / mugs. We are full time travelers Will touch base again . I’m Tim. Threegenonajourney.
Hope you get to experience finding a Yooperlite rock or few (after dark). We were up there for 2 weeks last summer from Broken Arrow, Oklahoma and I found some on Lake Michigan shoreline. (UV 365nm light required) good times for sure. Great video as always Cody & Kellie!!!
Used to live in Traverse City. Small city of roughly 22K but would swell to around 150K during summer months as vacationers and seasonal people would arrive for the June. July and August. The Cherry Festival is a national event that attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors to its week long celebration. I currently live near Iron Mountain in Michigans Upper Peninsula aka Gods Country! I certainly hope your travels will allow you the privilege of traveling up the Lake Michigan coast thru T.C., up through Charlevoix, Petoskey and up over the Mighty Mackinac Bridge. This would allow you to experience "The Other Michigan", the Upper Peninsula. The remote and the rugged! i think you would be thrilled with Gods Country!
Great adventure, guys! The alpacas are adorable. Check out the Outer Banks of North Carolina when you have the opportunity. The lighthouses are awesome.
Most post offices allow you to receive packages through general delivery. Just check the post office where you will be. It’s free of charge and you’ll only need to show your ID to pick up your package.
First time we saw black squirrels was at our friends house just outside of Toronto when we visited them. I had the same reaction cause I didn't know they existed. Might have to make plans for Michigan in the future cause you guys really make it look great.
You two are such a inspiration to me love the way you are keep on awesome adventures I love Michigan it so beautfull when you not in the some othe city. There a old light house in port hope Michigan it a small town real small but it is beautiful there a campground there too it on lake heron. my mom went to that place cherry place and brought home cherry salsa sauce
FYI, most State Parks where I’ve stayed have allowed me to receive mail and package delivery at their office. Of course, many RV/tent places will allow deliveries. I realize you mostly boondock. I’m simply sharing what I’ve experienced.
Love it when u share bits of history or stories as u go. The quiet during kayak trip makes us feel like we r there too. 45 years we started in tent trailer, gradually upgraded to a 35' RV. Currently @ Winnipeg Beach Provincial Campground, Manitoba 🇨🇦
Ohh my fantastic video. So happy you all are enjoying my neck of the woods. Cody, your cinematography is so on point my goodness it's phenomenal. You two are just three best. 🌄🏕️🏞️🌄💕
Fun vid! Aren’t the great lakes great? I hope you get to Grand Marais and Duluth. As much as I love the ocean and sandy beaches, I love the rocks and climbing on them. My go-to bagged tea is Yogi tea Chai Rooibos. I love it, You might like it too. Wait! Alpaca’s? I love them! And if I win the lottery I will have a farm!
I know I'm leaving a lot of comments. But I'm excited your in Michigan. You need to try the flint style conie dog. Another good beer is Frankenmuth dark it's from a small brewery in Frankenmuth Michigan. It's on the east side of Michigan. Look for it in the stores . Frankenmuth Dark. I love it.
Hey guys, greetings from Wisconsin! So glad you're enjoying your time up north. Yes, we grow a lot of cherries up here. In Wisconsin, there's a place called Door County. Very scenic popular place to visit. There's cherry everything there. Even an airport called Cherryland Airport. Glad you got to visit the lighthouse. Lots of those along the Lake Michigan shoreline. We have a lighthouse tour which takes you to numerous lighthouses. You go by boat. The food you're having at the different restaurants looks so good. You mentioned that the mornings were chilly - yes they are, even in August, but it feels good because the summers can be hot. So you'll be packing up soon for more adventure. I'll look forward to the video!
Kellie - Your dressy tops are so cute!! Both of you looked nice and that restaurant looked amazing! Loved the open windows. Enjoy your time in Michigan!
Great scenery and video of the river and the restaurants, the chicken salad sandwich and cherry pie looked delicious. The lighthouse and history was great! loved the visit with the Alpacas! Safe Travels to next destination.. Sincerely, Shay's Ways
