Fishing Corio Bay for Whiting on a small runabout boat. Australia Day long weekend 2019 FishingMad style, as Alan and Mark from FishingMad venture out to Corio bay targeting a feed of whiting which is considered a top table fish.
The guys are also running in a boat which hasn't been on the water for a couple of years and in the process catch a heap of whiting, undersized pinkies and some flathead.
This movie provides insight to exciting things happening on the channel, and gives plenty of tips on how to target whiting.

Gday mate great video. I went out for witting not long ago a I figured when I kept growing burley all the other speacies come but when I dont the whiting stay.

I think your right. My last few trips have been the same. With the berley we had so many undersize pinkies, flathead and the odd banjo. Without the berley mainly whiting.

Plenty of great options, all depends on your available budget as the prices and features vary greatly. Have a look as this might help fishingmad.com.au/article/fish-finder-review-2021 for a boat of that size id recommend a Lowrance HDS Live, Simrad Go and plenty of good cheaper options by Gamin and Lowrance

I have the Lowrance Elite ti2 and its great. The Hook 2s and Hook reveals are great for the price but the transducer on them is quite small so the readings at times aren't super accurate, especially in slighter deeper water. I found the transducer on the Elites and HDS lives to be much better.

Yep, the small pinkies are everywhere at the moment. I spoke with a few mates that went fishing on the weekend, at various locations at Port Phillip Bay and they all had the same problem. Especially when using small baits targeting whiting. It will settle down in couple of months. Get the odd decent pinkie among all the small ones, we caught a couple just under 50 the previous week doing the same thing.

Hey mate. Just went out today off Avalon beach about 600 metres just picked a random spot. Caught 30 odd pinkies and a few flatties. But yeah them pinkies are everywhere. Got a few around 35 or 40 so that was okay. Good vid

Thank you. Yeah there are pinkies everywhere at the moment. We did the same a couple of weeks back landed heaps of Pinkies then finally caught a few up to 50cm. Its still great to be out there catching fish.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing. Banjos usually just sit on your lines, but this one went for a big run taking plenty of drag so my immediate thought was big flattie. Oh well gotta expect a few banjos and toadies when venturing out to PPB or Corio Bay. Thanks Paul

Great video 👌 Just recently bought a boat and been in similar areas to where this was filmed. Not catching a great deal..... Caught 1 size whiting in one day out, another day 3 size flathead and that's about it. Any tips on targeting whiting and flathead? In the Geelong area Cheers

Thanks Will, thats awesome to hear that you have recently bought a boat. The water temperature is still quite cold which makes it a tough time of the year to be fishing. Things will really start to fire up in a month or two.

Not sure where channel 5 is. This was between lara and kirks point area around 4 meters deep.

How do you find whiting ground what do you look for ?

Generally im looking for quite shallow water between 3-5 meters, then we start looking for weedy areas. You can tell this by looking at your sounder or simply trolling around slowly and looking at the ground. A good pair of sunnies might help for that. I then look for some sandy clearings amongst all the weed and use that as a good starting point. Then when you pick that spot use berley to try and encourage the bite. ill look to do a video in the coming weeks on tips on how to target whiting.

Hi Domenic, we were fishing in exactly 4 meters deep. We ended up catching 18 over legal size and a heap of undersized that were released.

99% of sales of boats these days are done through boatsales.com.au, you can also have a look at eBay, gumtree but id start with boatsales. Should be some good deals at the moment as many will be doing it quite tough

I would love to do a session on the Kingies, has been on my todo list for a little while now. I'm always a bit hesitant booking charters in advance because you never know what the weather is going to be like. I've been on a couple were the weather was really bad and they still went out.

Yeah, we caught 14 around a week ago, went out Monday PH and caught nothing. Extremely awesome fish to target. Have a look at wiser bathrooms on insta we posted our catch. I’ll keep you posted.
