A little tip for the gents ! When you do your first pump in the hole you will see the other holes that are connected to it move. Angle your pump to face those holes Nd pump which allows you to create suction to all the holes joining. You will see the results after 😅 All the best !!

Great video. Question about rod choice. Why wouldn’t you use a beach caster rod with a full handle?

Hello there. (Full handle meaning long butt rod i think you referring to ?) If so, the long butt rod is not popular in South Africa. I've seen in the UK they extremely popular. Why i have no idea. For me the rod i was using was on loan from a friend as my rod was in for repairs. Long butt rods usually are setup for grinders not multipliers, not to say it cant be done with multipliers. I was totally out of my comfort zone casting with it. John also asked why nobody here uses it. I think its more used for fresh water fishing of which my knowledge is very little. @@terencesimpson100 thanks for the reply. I guess it’s what you’re used to using. Here, the only short butt rods I’ve seen are on boats where large fish are targeted and a harness might be needed. I think we use long handles on beach casters as it’s easier to get greater distances, with power casting techniques. If you see someone around CT using a long butt rod next month, it might be me.

@@gl2773 look forward to seeing you. John grew up in the UK and swears that one gets better distance with the long but and I disagree. Would enjoy a chat...shout when you down and hopefully we can wet a line together.

@@terencesimpson100 that would be great. I need to declare my hand. I’m mostly a trout fisherman but do like dabbling with some beach fishing. The serious guys here can pump lead out to 190 yards plus on full butts and multipliers. I’m just an unrefined long butt, fixed spool plodder and happy if I can get a bait out without injuring myself or anyone near me 😀. Those short butts you use caught my eye and was just wondering if I’d missed something. Always learning.

@@gl2773 yes never too old to learn, agreed. I made an effort to practice the pendulum cast and last got around 150m. Realistically the competition casters use a totally different setup. Ceramic bearing, polished light line etc. Not geared up for typical fishing scenario. Their distances are crazy. Here it's good to be able to cast a good distance as the mulloway are often deeper in past the breakers. I just love the feel and satisfaction of a good solid pendulum cast. The loading of energy to the rod is extreme but effective. Anyway, great chatting. Off to bed, it's 10.35pm. Great chat ...awesome week ahead my freshwater friend.
