Schools of Pacific Herring have been boosting the health of our oceans for thousands and thousands of years. They have and do provide food for almost everything up the food chain. Fishing for them is really fun and anglers can use throw nets or herring jigs. Fishermen looking for a Herring dinner used to use Herring rakes - a ling stick with a bunch of spikes protruding from it. They would sweep it through the water, skewering these fish by the bucket load. There used to be a-lot more Herring than there is today but with some hard work we can help them thrive once again and consequently many other wonderful and important wild coastal creatures.
