Kokanee can not reproduce the speces is man made. But why would you want the females. The meat is pale and no rib meat.Just soft and squishy yuck. They live 2yrs but after the false spawn they all die.I wont eat any that are going up creek. To far deteriorated. The why would you kill a female with baby's people should try reading a book now and then. The fish are sterile. They can not reproduce. The fish do not feed on worms or minnows or any other bait. They are super territorial and strike out of anger.Otherwise no one could catch them. The Kokanee is a plankton feeder.Try getting that on a hook.Smart people catch a female, squeeze the eggs out on a rock and let them dry a little so as to be able to thread on a hook. Then let the eggs drift down stream. The Big Browns come out of no where and love to eat them.I have landed dozens of 3 to 10 lb brown Trout in one day.But you wont catch any if they see you.Go early be the 1st one there.Light line 4 or 6 lb No#6 hook.Make sure to have a good path to the lake to fight the fish. You will never land a 6lb Brown on 6lb test in swift moving water. It will run fore the lake.Take a net.I want to see the video posted. Its to much fun!!! I have been doing it for 35yrs. God Bless Phill for starting the Cal-Kokanee project. The fish is 1/2 Sockeye Salmon 1/2 Rainbow Trout. They Dont get big in Shaver or Hunnington. The lakes are to shallow and plankton grows best in deep water. If you want big Kokanee choose lakes with over 100 ft of water. Then you will start seeing fish 18 to 24 in range at 2yrs old After 2 yrs they all die.Cal- Kokanee plants fingerlings every year with airplanes.
Not exactly true dude. Kokanee are very productive spawners in shaver lake. you are right about them dieing after spawn but that is once they are around 4 years old. Sterile Tripaloid Kokanee are "Rare" but not entirely uncommon. You can usually identify these because they will be much larger than their fertile counterparts. Also it is in fact illegal to knowingly take and harvest any spawning "With Eggs" game fish in most states including California. This information is from DFG if you were wondering.
Idk bout yall, but here in utah they do spawn and it is illegal to fish or take them when they are spawning in the rivers. Idk why it would be illegal if it was a false spawn and their planted anyway... btw the ones here in utah shape shift and turn red lol its dope
Every kokanne is a sockeye salmon and every sockeye salmon is a kokanne! They become a kokanne when they can't return to the ocean amd they can reproduce in lakes by swimming up river.
Always enjoy your content! Didn’t know you have a Miata. I use to always drive my 99 miata that I built up to shaver. One of the funnest roads to drive to.
Caught my first kokanee at shaver in 14 of a rooster tail. It was may, we found a cove wit a small water fall and a picnic bench and pulled the boat in. Ate it with rice pilaf at the cabin that night.
Jesus christ, I love Shaver Lake ,Big Creek, Huntington lake and Dinky Creek. Is the Gingerbread House still there ? Sticky buns too ? Damn great memories from that area.

sierra marina,. right now your best bet is on boat or casting out as far as you can. maybe a wedding ring rig. but i date all my videos in the description so you can use to date to try and hit them up earlier than i did here.
Damm everytime i watch your videos it gets me motivated to go fishing because I learn something new. I used to skunk every time but now i catch at least 1. How long did it take you to catch your limit?
I've never been to Shaver Lake and I'm planning to go and fish there in July. What is the limit number of fish? Is it per species or total fish? What area of the lake did you fish? Thanks.
trout/kokanee: 5 no size limit catfish/carp: unlimited no size limit Smallmouth bass: 5 no size limit fishing from dam to Sierra Marina is common for all anglers.. Edison camp recreation(fee) and the east side of lake opens during summer(fee).
Dude! These are super dark spawning Kokanee 😂😂😂 Don’t fish for these. This is so bad/sad/Embarrassing to watch. They are a great gamefish and delicious when they are silver and deep in the lake. Get a boat and catch them there please. Probably best to delete this video 👍🏻
