Hi Davie, great video. I was watching the start and when you walk past the hut, i started to recognise this beat. I fished it as a guest of Lawrence and Bill about 10yrs ago one August. I landed 3 salmon and lost another. Fish were showing in the pool where it goes into the wooded part. Bill said they were running fish as high tide was about 4 hrs earlier. They were all sea liced bar one, and were from 6lb to 15lb. All caught on a Red Devil tube. We crossed the river lower down, holding onto a rope suspended acroos the river. Got the bigger fish beside a lie/ stone that Bill had only put in a few days before. Great days fishing on a super wee river, shame to see it struggling. All the best and tight lines for 2024
Sad to think that such a cracking wee river had an abundance of salmon and sea trout long ago then man introduced salmon farms in the west coast of Scotland and the very same fish have disappeared, strange that isn't it !! Unlucky with the fish Davie 👍👍👍
Davie a great look at the river , as we say here in Tasmania we had a good day’s practice we’ll start fishing for real next trip . Better luck next time , from Tasmania Australia 🇦🇺
Thanks again, Davie for bringing us along for a bit o' fishing fun .... p.s. I can only see your sleeves but I must admit that I like very much your shirt as well :)☺
Another Sunday morning treat, Davie. I love a secluded rainy wander with a rod. I was there with you in spirit but, I reality, I was hiding from the hangover under the covers. Cheers 🙂🍺🍻
I was walking down to the river with you and was getting exhausted. Then I saw the water and thought this looks promising.looked like you had the right rod for the river and all the water looked like great swinging water . But as we all know sometimes it’s just not meant to be . Thanks for sharing it looked like a wonderful place to be .
I've noticed that everybody in Scotland is using 2 handed rods. Here in Newfoundland Canada, they aren't very popular. We use single hand rods, typicall 9' 8/9 wt. for Atlantic Salmon. Just find that interesting.
Morning Davie, good to see you out with the Salmon rod. Lovely looking beat, looked very similar to water I walked along when living near Patna. Great holding water. Unlucky you missed those few fish but like you say that's Salmon fishing. Hope we see you with one in the net soon. Cheers
Davie what a nice day broken with a slight urination of rain, lots of casting for salmon, you're a true champion, and thank you for the invitation allowing me to wade alongside you, Davie your grand.
@winstonchurchill4340 Dear Winston, you must be a trained urologist. And "you're" means that you are ! Thank you for your knowledge. Together, we can both agree that Davie is a great teacher of fly tying and fly fishing Davie is the most considerate of hosts graciously allowing both of us to join his amazing escapades of fly fishing adventures. Regards
Hi Dominique, I do mostly fish tube flies as I can fish them at most depths and still use a floating line whether I am using a copper, alloy or plastic tube..Another good reason is that you can fish a single, double or treble at the back and if you bend a hook or damage it in some way then you don't have to throw the fly away.. All the very best Davie
Hi @rudmerv, It was a size 10 and I also like a size 12 as well, they are old Partridge out point X1 barbless trebles which I've had for years.....I'm glad you enjoyed the video.. All the very best Davie..
@@DavieMcPhail thank you Davie. I've never used trebles on my tube flies, and their sizing seems different than the singles I use. I'll hunt down some 10s and 12s and give them a go.
Hi @MrMoghal, I have attached a link to the rod I was using though I did notice it was out of stock, the rod does come with a free fly line which suits it perfectly, I will also attach a link to it for you to see as well.. Very nice Video 😊 But I have a question Please, can everyone fish for Atlantic Salmon in Scotland, or do they have to win a lottery, like in Scandinavia??!! I'm a retired Fish Pathologist in Oregon, and now an Outdoor and Science writer, also formerly a guide for Trophy Bull trout, Brown Trout, Steelhead and 4 species of Pacific Salmon, as Oregon doesn't have Pink (humpy) Salmon!! I've been intensely fishing for Steelhead and Salmon since 1973.
Hi @snagrbuster7343, Some very well know waters like the river Tay, Spey and the Tweed can cost you a small fortune though there will be some beats that you could fish for a lot less especially club waters..I have two tickets on my local river one is £30 and the other is £60 and I can fish all season for salmon...So if you come to Scotland you can fish for a lot less than you may have heard..I'm glad you enjoy the video... All the very best Davie
@@DavieMcPhailHello Davie, thank you very much for the kind reply, and what you said gives me hope for fishing Scotland and maybe Ireland!!Some of my wife's ancestors were Scottish, so she would love to see Scotland's countryside as well!! If you ever decide to fish for Real Sea-Run Steelhead and Pacific Salmon, please contact me, and it would my pleasure to guide you, and of course at no expense to!! You'll just need a fishing license and a Steelhead/Salmon Tag. And with the tag you may retain Hatchery Steelhead and Salmon!! A Mr. Mikael Frodin of Sweden (fly tier), sometimes refers to Hatchery Steelhead and Salmon as "Artificial"!! With greatest due respect to him, he is not informed enough about our State and Federal hatcheries, and no doubt he's confusing them with fish farming in the Ocean, which is somewhat of a joke to most of us who have studied the basics of proper fish culture. For every Pound of Salmon the feed 5 pounds of Anchovies 😊 and due to loose methods of medicating, those Salmon, in my opinion, are not fit to eat!! Hatchery Steelhead and Salmon go through the same thing in Freshwater and of Course later in the Pacific Ocean life cycle!! We have both Summer and Winter Steelhead. I caught a Hatchery Summer Steelhead, Over 40 pounds (fly fishing), and it may Very well be the World record fly caught Steelhead, but due to illness, I haven't yet registered it with the IGFA!! It fought so long that it Almost became a chore!! Being an adipose-clipped Steelhead, I could've retained it without guilt, but I decided to release it, hoping that it's excellent genes would go on. Every summer I catch Several hatcher Steelhead over 25 pounds. 12 to 15 pounders aren't uncommon at all!! As for the Steelhead and Salmon of the Great Lakes states, since they don't go to the ocean, I have difficult time with considering them "Real" Steelhead and Salmon, but they'll probably hate me for saying that😊 Hope to meet you and better yet, fish with you someday 😊
