2 rods, 1 hidden lake, 2 fish species, can we catch them?? Another cold Autumn morning, I headed to this lake in search of Northern Pike and Perch, with the cold and rain of the previous days was certain to be a tough task, but did we manage both species? Stay tuned until the end!

On days where im not sure what sort of setup to bring. I'll take a 10-45g setup. Its absolutely overkill if youre targeting small perch like the ones you were pulling out of the park about a month ago when the weather was much warmer but it will still throw 7 or 8g jigs and crankbaits with a bit more effort. Not perfect but it will still do it while allowing you to throw some bigger lures for pike. I say that but at the same time I have lighter 4-14g LMAB La Moustique combo that I use for perch that always seems to get more interest from pike than perch. Ive had an 18lb pike on it and somehow managed to get it into the net without it snapping the rod or my line. Jack pike around 6-8lb are a huge amount of fun on a light setup like that.

Yeah I normally take my 15-45g as well, it's good for the bigger perch and easy to handle most of the pike. Awesome man, well done on the 18lb! Yeah I've had quite a few on my BFS, super fun to catch, a bit nerve racking but super fun!

Nice little lake mate, I need ro find the bigger pike there, though, I'm sure there's a couple swimming around!

Any time out fishing is a good time ! Catching fish is just a bonus lol . Ice was forming as long the edges of the pond I fished this morning but still found a few . I’m surprised you don’t use a jerkbait this time of year for pike and perch

We don't have any ice here yet but temps are dropping quite a lot at the moment. I don't have really much confidence with hard baits 😅 I need to give there more time to get some confidence! Glad you've got a few! I had to pike today, so not bad too 😁

@@zombiebitefishing jerkbaits are something you just gotta throw to build confidence. Chain pickerel and yellow perch crush them when the water temps are dropping ( perch pattern is my favorite) but largemouth and smallmouth love them as well !!

I have a few but rarely use them haha I've caught fish with them, but I don't have nearly as much confidence as with soft plastics. Definitely something that I need to start throwing more!

@@zombiebitefishing it’s funny I’m the opposite!! I prefer hardbaits . I just recently started throwing paddletail swimbaits on a ball head jig . A bait I’m trying to get more confident in

Haha paddle tails on a jighead are one of my favourite things to throw 😅 what time of the year do you think jerkbaits works better?
