You guys should look into some knipex dykes. They will cut them fish hooks with no problem and way smaller than the bolt cutters. You guys are awesome keep up the good work. Love your videos.
We have been advised by leading seal specialists that unless we are able to keep the seal in a sanctuary for recovery we should avoid putting medicine on the wound. Plus, the sea water does a great job of disinfecting the wound, so the seal can heal.
@@OceanConservationNamibia I do understand. The spray I mentioned is for land animals not seals that get salt water disinfection (but I thought it may help) Keep up the great work! ❤️ to see it
She was so patient! With such pain she was in, she didn’t move, she was waiting for you to help her. Amazing. Let’s hope she recovers from that terrible trauma. Thanks OCN, that was so great of you!
She couldn't move - otherwise she would have been out of there. They had to really restrain her with that ingenious sack, well designed to hold her still.
I think you’re right - there was a point in time that she realised that it was helping, certainly not at the beginning but maybe when they took that weight off. It’s like she couldn’t believe that her tongue could go in again when she kept opening her mouth whilst running back to the water. Poor seal had a lucky day. Some heroes run barefoot through sand!
Oh, boy! That one looked rough. Oral surgery by Dr. Naude. You can’t unsee something like that. I noticed your Milwaukee tool box. I was born in Milwaukee WI (a great place by a Great Lake). I love that place. 💕OCN
Poor, poor thing ... she could've been thrashing around like crazy, considering the amount of pain she HAD to have been in, but she was amazingly calm, like she understood what you were doing. What a wonderful job of removing that horrible hook ... but then, the OCN team always does an AMAZING job of saving and protecting these precious creatures. Thanks, HEROES! ❤
What an absolute nightmare for that dear seal! To think of the billions of animals out there just like this without an OCN is heartbreaking. Thank you for being there.
She was surprisingly cooperative. It's amazing when these animals know when someone is just trying to help. And the way you guys talk to them like they can understand you just shows the real and true amount of care and concern you all have for these amazing animals.
I have the utmost respect for this team of amazing people. The skill in finding, running, securing these poor animals Who through no fault of their own have ensnared themselves In such awful things. Your expertise in pragmatically doing a mini operation Has my full respect. Honestly words cannot convey the joy it gives Knowing that the pain will alleviate for that poor animal. My best wishes from England.
That poor dear girl was so cooperative. Whether by her understanding or just her pure fear, it helped the situation so much. Sad that my first thought when I saw the barb sticking out was “Oh good-this will be easier for her when removed” Poor dear should never have been put in that situation. Thank you gentlemen for trying your very best to make this as painless as possible for her 🦭🌊💙
I can't imagine the pain she went through You guys a true Hero's for these animals! I'm doing my little part in helping these animals by not consuming fish anymore. No fishing hook will end up in an animals mouth because of me
Naude started this team by doing everything basically by himself ,just goes to show if your heart is big and your conviction strong enough there is no limits to helping this planets wild life .sorry katja ofcause he wasn't alone you did a very brilliant job by getting this wonderful team up and running ,and broadcasting, with out you we wouldn't know what wonderful people you all are ❤
I'm glad that now you are so skilled and equipped with all tools. No animal should go though this pain😢, this man made pain. Thank you for rescuing her 🙏
Oh my gosh, that was one of the worst injuries! Terrible to see. Thank you so much for freeing her from the hook. Hopefully she will recover quickly. Thank you from Utah, USA.
Fortunately for the seal, you are quite proficient at hook rescues. (Unfortunately that means you have had lots of practice.) You don't always need all those specialized tools during a rescue, but it's nice to have them in your arsenal. Good work!❤
How did she even swim with that pinning her tongue hooked to her cheek, trailing all that line? How painful that must have been. Thank you so much for saving her. ❤️ Godspeed.
Way to go guys! She was so relieved to get that monstrosity out of her mouth. I hate that you actually know what to do to remove these hooks but it did come in handy this time. Thank you for saving another one. Now the salt water can help heal her and she can go on to have more puppies.
Thank you to the Flash for catching her and thanks to tony for keeping her at ease and naude for careful surgery YOU GUY'S SHOULD BE SO PROUD OF YOURSELVES FOR THE AMAZING WORK YOU ARE DOING THANK YOU❤😢,👏😇😇😇
I must admit I couldn't watch this one. That poor animal,I saw the end when they freed her,how painful that must've been. Bless her I hope she healed well.
This type of issue is truly horrible and I can't imagine how many seals suffer that never get rescued. Thank you for being there to rescue as many as you can as I know this takes more than hours in the day. Love you guys for your time, effort, caring and devotion when it comes to rescuing!!! ❤
It seems, the more severe the injury.... the more they understand that you are there to help!!!... Thank you for all that you do!!!😊💓☺💗💛💖😊💓☺💗💛💖😊 That moment when she realized the hook was out.... pure joy!!! ❤♥💕💕💞💓💗💖 .... I think that turn around was a "thank you... and now, finally, to feed"!!!!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I was quietly watching from Korea🇰🇷 without any comments! I'm so grateful and moved to see the toolbox today that I'm commenting on the translation program! Thank you for always rescuing the animals and I hope you put the health of the rescuers first.❤
This is the most complicated and painful rescue I've watched. Thank you OCN for helping this animal avoid any more pain than she had to bear because some people just can't be bothered to deal with their trash in a responsible way. >.
What an incredible rescue! The seal was so lucky to be caught by you all today, to free her from certain death. Thank you for searching out these precious seals and saving their lives!
Great job Dr. Naude❣ That was a successful surgery. Thank you Team OCN. You are such talented people & have different & terrific talents. You compliment each other❣ You make such a wonderful team. We ❤ you all:)🇺🇸
Absolutely amazing how she remained relatively calm throughout that operation; we know it hurt, there is no way that it could not but she is tough and wants to live so OCN was able to get rid of that disgusting hook. Awesome job as always ❤
We are so thankful that you do the work you do. What an horrific situation. I can’t imagine how that must have felt to the seal. Your rescues are amazing. Thanks to you all.
That poor seal! I can't imagine the pain she was in. It was good news to see her tongue back in her mouth as she ran toward the water. I hope her tongue heals properly so she has no trouble eating. Thank you for saving her.🙏
I can know the pain. Bit almost thru the middle of my tongue at the age of 13 (1965) via sledding wreck. Could see the vein from top and bottom, just missed the major (forget name). Hospital, dr.? In those days …big fat NO. Dr. about $10, ER?…..don’t know but waayyyy too much. Also cut, scrapped chin to the bone and front tooth thru upper lip. Mom looked at it “not much blood, you’re alright.” Little mercurochrome, a band-aid (fell off in record time) and ice cube in the mouth. Had an “L” shaped flap on tongue for couple months. Couldn’t eat for about 2ish weeks. Probably the first of my many concussions. Btw, went out that night…..sledding, just kept sticking snow in my mouth and on chin. Aww yeah, good times, should have known then I was destined for the Marines, Nam.
Their extremely high levels of pain tolerance makes me in awe of them. Animals are truly a whole different lifeform that we need to protect and cherish.
How awful she should come accross the discarded fish hook, she must have been in torture trying to survive, you all did a great job helping her to go back to the sea and giving her back her freedom. Thankyou OCN. 🤗💝
Delighted to see that the team now has access to gear to tackle more complex rescues and especially the large hooks. World wide support is finally arriving to help this outstanding team of animal friends.
Excelente trabalho. É uma judiação o que estes animais passam. Felizmente existem equipes como vocês que ajudam a diminuir o sofrimento destes bichos. Imagino quantos não devem estar passando pela mesma situação. Obrigado e parabéns pelo trabalho de vocês.
No words cancompete with the images - what a terrible injury. Thank you, Team OCN, for your expertise and compassion - we (and the seals) are so lucky to have you on patrol.
This really breaks my heart to see the seal in such a condition and give me hope that somewhere, someplace, people still are good and doing the right thing. You guys rock.
Removing the hook from its jaws was heroic and life saving. Imagine the horrible pain it endured every moment of the day. God bless you for a job well done.
Such awful experiences these innocent critters endure, mostly d to human carelessness. And then there's ocn, saving lives with gentleness and compassion. Thanks always, not just for all you do but for how you do it.
Oh gosh, this is hard to watch. The poor seal, imagine her pain😪. A thousand thanks to you guys🙏❤️, for removing that hook so cautiously out of her cheek and tongue.
Poor baby, unbelievable amount of suffering ! Your INCREDIBLE PROFESSIONALISM and TERRIFIC HELP are GREATLY APPRECIATED by us, onlookers, and by seals for sure! THANK YOU!
What a strong and patient creature. I felt nauseous even looking at her injuries, but she was so full of energy and desire to live, running back to the water. Inspiring and horrible at the same time. We have no right to torture these brave animals with our negligence. Thank you so much OCN!
I was watching this with my tongue hanging out the whole time! My girls just asked me what was wrong??!! Thank God for this amazing team you have! Poor sweet angel must have been in horrible pain AND HUNGRY!
We are unfortunately only treating the symptoms of the plastic crisis with our rescues. The goal of these videos is to show the consequences of this pollution and create a change to tackle its roots - namely our addiction to single-use plastics, the lack of law enforcement at sea and the shortcomings of the recycling industry.
Each time I think that there are no more heroes in our world, I watch one of your videos and I know that you guys are true heroes. Thank you so much for all the hard work you do.
What a horrible wound and entanglement! Such a relief that you could free her from that nightmare! Excellent teamwork as usual with OCN, thank you all! It was so good to see that she could retract her tongue into her mouth as she ran to the sea.
I've bitten my tongue & had that first pain-surge be _literally_ blinding! I cannot imagine my tongue pinned to my cheek and constantly repeating tugs from the pull of the attached line... That poor lass! I am so glad you guys were there to help... And so sorry you had to be. *"14 BILLION* _commercial_ hooks abandoned, lost or discarded *_EVERY YEAR."_* We've only seen a _handful_ removed by OCN. Where are the rest? What irreversible damage is being done by those ones? _What can _*_we_*_ do to help correct this?_
