Just picked up an eagle talon yesterday at dicks for the 4th of July sale. I have a bass boat, however, all my buddies are switching to kayak fishing so I thought in would try it out. Your videos are great and extremely informative. Can't wait to see your live well upgrade.
Great Idea on the fishing crate. I'm going to do the same thing to mine. I have the Trident 13.So it has that little storage spot for a dry box behind my seat. But that won't hold as much as I need it too. Great vid!!
If you do that mod can you post a video of it? I just got the trident 13 a week or so ago. I have a flambeau dry box with some gear in that spot behind the seat but I'd prefer a crate
I love the poolnoodle idea! I've been needing something like that when im kayak fishing. Now if you have a way to not get hands all sticky, rod reel, with pro cure?
Clint, it is a lot of fun. I would recommend it! As far as starter boats, get what you like. Check Craigslist for used boats, too! You might run across a good deal. I like this F&S, but it's the only one I've ever been in!
ironic I have done same thing with my crate as it gives more space :) to tuck away things like my flounder :) but it also keepes a nice drainage of the crate so water stays out of the bottom of crate :)
Hey David, I know you've upgraded your kayak and are down in FL now, but a question back in time for this one: Ever take it out in the open ocean in MA? If so, how'd it do? I'm thinking about this kayak for here in Long Island where I'll be primarily in the saltwater harbor down the street. However I also have the option of Long Island Sound (rougher water) or open ocean on the South Shore (roughest water).
Those clippers, how would they work on a windy day? I mean those bait bags are fairly light weight, wouldn't they fly around like crazy when the wind picks up?
It was never a problem. Not saying it couldn't be, but i would imagine in wind that strong the plastic bags wouldn't be my biggest worry, anyway. Tight lines!
Purchased the 2013 left over at dicks ad was having a hard time with the crate, great idea! What did u use from the bulkhead to the fish finder? Live and fish mass, see you on the water.....
I'm sorry. I just sold the boat and don't have it available. But, it's really easy. Buy 3' of 1" PVC and 4 caps and a small pool noodle. Drill holes in each corner of crate such that you can pass the PVC pipe through each hole. Cut the PVC off at each side of your boat's hull, put a piece of noodle on pipe between the ends and the crate, and cap each end. That's it! Now, it sits on top of the hull because the noodle-covered pipes sit on the edges of the hull, leaving the storage area underneath available!
