Love the canal fishing. I'm 77 now and my boyhood memories are of the Shire horses towing (hence towpath) the barges. My dad used horse manure for ground bait. It contained all sorts of nutrients and we had some fantastic roach fishing in those days. I still have a photo of when he caught one of 2lb 2oz. Good ol days!

Thank you for taking time out to make these films. love watching you doing a bit of graft before you go fishing. Great view of your property from the roof, lovley place. When ever i watch one of your films i always learn something so thanks again. Stay safe Greame, keep smith away from the ladders, we need you 👍

Glad you enjoyed it. If only one person doesn't lose a drain rod down a drain by unscrewing it while working I consider it a film well made. I try to mix the films up a bit sometimes ,obviously not going to get monster views like Freddy the fat Carp at 157lbs or whatever,but it keeps me off the streets and I don't care if I get 10 viewers as long as they all enjoy it. I lock Smith in the potting shed while I go onto the roof ,just to be sure.

Workshop now attended to. I was crafting (!!!) my first Axe handle out of a chunk of cherrywood for Mike's T.A. Outdoors Show using his new draw knife. Looks like I got carried away judging by all the wood shavings. Of course having now cleaned and tidied I won't be able to find anything .

Thank goodness I now have a 6 mtr carbon handle, it makes rock and pier fishing much easier. I have watched some of your rock fishing video’s and thought it would have made getting those big wrasse out. Regards Bill

@TAFishing 5 лет назад
"Slop" or "Stodging" is a Hampshire/Dorset term for a groundbait mix of bread and whatever else you fancy,usually quite wet so it breaks up on impact .Used on the River Stour for Chub . Try it on a commercial stillwater fishing close in if bread is allowed.The Carp especially go nuts for it. I doubt you'll need the fishing rod,they will be flapping up the bank to get to the bucket.

I could not recommend a Canal Boat Holiday enough for any fisherman with a family. It is life at 2 miles per hour and so stress free plus one can stop anywhere at anytime night or day and just fish over the side with rods left ready assembled on the top of the boat and a ready made galley for hot food and drinks just an arms length away. We have always had wonderful holidays on them.

If that's the Kennet and Avon near Hungerford I've fished there for years when I was a younger man . There has always been a boat moured buy that old mill house, we used to find that big chub would gather near the boat and under the willows next to it.
@TAFishing
@TAFishing 5 лет назад
Same spot I reckon,but I never heard of the big Chub.I think its more Bream and Skimmers now. Maybe there weren't as many boats back then so it was clearer ? Any Hungerford experts know if the Chub are still there ?

Whew you had a lot of soot, you might want to brush 2 or 3 times a year, or burn hotter dryer wood. Also you might want to get your concrete cap patched or replaced, those cracks will end up eating your brick chimney sooner than later. Good video

Hi Graham or should I say Brucie, good game, nice to see you, too see you nice!!!! Anyway, with regards to your weather vane, it will spin sweeter if you put a ball bearing on top of the upright spindle thing which will then be inside the sleeve bit that covers the top of the spindle thing, if you get my drift, it's a bit fiddly but, it will respond better to the wind changes & you don't have to oil it & it cuts down on wear & tear. Love the TA vids both fishing & bushcraft stuff. Better than the T.V. So thanks to you Mike & the others.

Hi again, my dad used to take us boys fishing & would often use dry custard powder mixed with bread & water to form a paste, we even ate it when hungry, anyway we had success with roach, rudd, bream, carp & crusian carp (spelt that wrong) whatever happened to crusian (wrong again) carp, you don't see them any more, great little fighters. Also he would cut up sections of bike inner tubes fill them with sand/dirt, tie off both ends, use a weak break off line & we would rock fish for wrasse, the tubes would slip easier than lead among the rocks & save dad money. He made drop net from old onion bag & small bike wheel with spokes removed to catch prawns, I can still taste them, wonderful memories that I thought I would share with you. You seem to be on the same wave length as dad. He would of loved your videos.

Hmmm, we, here in Poland use rope with a weight attached below the chimney brush. I only had one time the rope fell off the brush, because I used a weak carabiner, and the brush got stuck, but I simply attached a 10 kg hammer head to the rope and forced the brush down.
@TAFishing
@TAFishing 5 лет назад
That would be fine for an open fire chimney,but with our log burner there is a 90 degree angle so I guess the rope would chafe off.
@Dadas0560
@Dadas0560 5 лет назад
@@TAFishing OK, I have a whole central heating system with a wood-burning furnace. The joint to the chimney is at an angle, too, but the chimney actually goes down further with access to that part, because that's where the soot must be taken out after cleaning the chimney.

Thanks Graeme nice video. Did my chimney in the Autumn always good to know it's been done. Been working on the boat for the last week. Had the chap come do a full service on the little 30hp Mercury EFI all done including the timing belt. Put two coats anti foul which is a horrible job on a trailer thats sitting on gravel, made ten times worse by Arthur, you know him, old Arthur Ritis, always turns up when you least want him. Still it's done now for a couple of years. I fixed up a trailer over winter I got cheap but made the mistake of buying car tyres which are no where near enough for road use good thing it just needed to come up the slip and 50 yards to the work space. Cheers Graeme.
@TAFishing
@TAFishing 5 лет назад
Sounds like you have been busy.I think I am getting a visit from Arthur as well ,he seems a bit touchy first thing in the morning. I think you might need to check ply ratings on your trailer,is it 8 ply for road work ? How come the car tyres are not good enough ? Is that a weight thing ? I know for towing I changed up the ply rating ,but for short distances I would have thought car tyres OK. Maybe a "boaty" person out there can clarify ply ratings for us.
@davidharvey5672
@davidharvey5672 5 лет назад
@@TAFishing well these ones are max 40 psi ( 4 of them ) and my mate who is super knowledgeable with all things boat says they need to take 80. It certainly looks right seeing how compressed these ones are. I need to check but they make trailer rated tyres. I certainly wouldn't take this lot on the road. I put tubes in these. I have a learning curve to go up on this subject. Although if all I need is to pull it out every couple of years these will probably do.

@TAFishing
@TAFishing 5 лет назад
Small jar of shrimp paste mixed in either with flour or a fine groundbait,dampen it,then keeping working it until you have a paste. You don't need much as its fairly strong smelling But use a fairly large hook,size 8 to 4.That way you have a good sized bait as smaller fish will also be nibbling at it. Paste baits are best used closer in as they are soft and not good for distance fishing.
