In my quest to explore Delaware County's (Delco) fishing parks I ventured out to Springfield PA / Havertown PA / Drexel Hill PA to fish Darby Creek at Pilgrim Park. During my trip I used lures to creek fish for smallmouth bass. I had a great day of Pennsylvania multi-species fishing catching panfish, fallfish, creek chub and a big smallmouth bass.
Lures :
Eurotackle Anisoptera (Brown)
Strike King Bitsy Minnow (Chili Craw) amzn.to/3ZQO2ej
Jig Head : Eurotackle Micro Finesse Soft-Lock Tungsten Jig Head 1/32 oz
Location : Darby Creek in Springfield, Drexel Hill & Havertown Pennsylvania
Featured Fish : Redbreast Sunfish, Rock Bass, Fallfish, Creek Chub & Smallmouth Bass

There’s a 60 plus lb snapping turtle living upstream from that spot….I swear it’s doing a number on the smaller bass population. Feel the numbers have dropped drastically last few years. That’s a nice bass!

I was surprised how low the creek is in most spots! It took a lot of wading to get to a nice hole. Thankful I didn't run into the turtle but I think I remember hearing about it from an older gentleman I was talking to in the parking lot. I appreciate you checking out the video and the compliment. I was surprised to see a few nice ones in that hole!

@@bobbymckenna8926 Interesting! I've been fortunate that I have not came across any leeches while fishing in Delco.

Great stuff! I fish about 4 miles south of here in another little park. I really like Darby Creek for smallmouth. It's exactly like you said, only one or two good smallies every trip, but I'm having more luck there than in my old spots. My go-to used to be the East Branch of the Brandywine, but those crazy floods a while back seem to have changed the spots I went a lot and finding them is getting a lot harder.

Those floods messed up a lot of Chester Creek too! I was glad I was bale to get on that nice smallmouth at Darby Creek. I didn't see a ton more where I was. I tried two other parks further south but they were filled with swimmers.

@@brycedayton4092 awesome! I appreciate the recommendation I'll give it a try. This is where I went last time: Pilgrim Park - where the video was filmed Oakview Falls - had too many people swimming to fish Hoffman Park - mostly people swimming but I went upstream and found one hole to fish.

Love it. Not too many things better than ultralight creek fishing.

This might get me in hot water but you should try along Darby creek road in Havertown by the blue route,well stocked with trout or by the old Swedish cabin in Clifton heights

I fish the spot where you caught the small bass at, Which direction is the spot you caught the smallie at? I do not see anything that big down there
@delconashvilleline
@delconashvilleline Год назад
Thanks for checking out the channel! It was downstream maybe a half mile to mile or so. Other than the spot where I caught the big smallmouth I didn't see any other holes with big fish. That was really the only hole I stumbled across that had decent fish in it.

@@delconashvillelineOk great Ill stop there this summer. If you go to the part of the darby creek at the Springfield swim club their is a couple of eels and their is some big suckers but I never caught any of them. You can also go down streem, and there are some other solid fishing holes where I caught a solid small mouth with a minnow in the back of the parking lot near the train track bridge. Plenty of rock bass there too!

@@bobbymckenna8926 I do! It's call the Strike King Bitsy Minnow. It's a great lure and cost around 5 dollars. I would highly recommend making sure you have small pliers when you use it though.

hi delco. great job with the videos. Id love to know the brand of shoes you are wearing while wading in this creek?
@delconashvilleline
@delconashvilleline 2 года назад
Thank you! That's a great question I don't mention them enough. They are called Fashion Water Shoes. I believe they are made by Flarut. Here is a link to Amazon where I bought them: www.amazon.com/FLARUT-Sandals-Barefoot-Lightweight-Training/dp/B07GDHSBMW/ref=sr_1_5?keywords=fashion%2Bwater%2Bshoes%2Bfor%2Bmen&qid=1661606300&sprefix=fashion%2Bwater%2B%2Caps%2C70&sr=8-5&th=1 They are pretty good. I am on my second pair the first pair broke after one season of fishing with them. I fish 1 to 2 times a week and they typically last me about one fishing season which where I live is from April to about September.

@@secretsquirrelops8539 sure thing! For the price I suggest them. They just aren't the best quality so just be aware they probably wont last you more than 6 months but given the price of them I think that is fair.
