Hi Sport. Rag is the best bait for Penarth beach fishing. Also, casting out to Weston Supermare may catch you the occasional large fish, but 5 - 30 yards out will pretty much ensure you don't blank, and may land you some nice sized bass, codling, flatties (on smaller hooks), and an abundance of eels if you want them. Penarth is much better fished smaller and closer if you want some sport. Regards. A Penarthian.

Yes give it a go, you don’t need expensive gear to get into shore fishing, you can get reasonable beach casting gear, that doesn’t break the bank. I would say give it a go. Good going 👍 fished the exact same place last week , The pull on the tide took me into all the rocks towards the Ranny, 3 ends I lost one after each other, moved to the left side of slip way and fished tide down , 1 decent bite all day, there was a lad fishing off the pier and had 7 small codling and an eel 🤦♂️ strange how that works lol , good video 👍 tight lines 🎣
Yeh the tide was so strong I didn’t even see the bite from that thornback, it’s nice to have a bit of nice weather tho, just to be out wetting a line. loved the video , it tickled me when you said this definitely has to be the last cast , my first ever fishing trip was exactly where you are in the video about 20 years ago with the wife, in the last cast scenario we fished two up all the way back down and four up lol but at the end of the day the 2 year old son was happy with the grandparents and i caught my first cod and wifey caught her first of many bass (grrr never caught one)
First ever attempt at surf fishing today at this location. Pretty stressful honestly, got my line caught up in seaweed and the rocks constantly. Hopefully I'll get better at it soon .

Shade 163CTX120 if I wasn’t filming I would follow the tide, but between the fishing gear, shelter, tripods and camera bags, it’s a lot of gear to be moving constantly. Although it probably would be a bit more productive fishing closer to the water, better bite indication etc. But yes, get back into fishing, it’s a fantastic sport, whatever type of fishing you’re doing!
